Not satisfied with simply colorizing and restoring old black & white films, Legend Films is making the jump to 3D, teaming up with PassmoreLab to bring Night of the Living Dead (the original 1968 flick, now colorized, not the 2006 3D remake) to 3D screens near you. By that we mean, really near you, after a limited run in theaters starting April 1, 2009 the new version is coming to DVD and downloads (including allegedly hilarious commentary from former MST3K talent, if that's what you're into.) Legend Films prez Barry Sandrew is calling it the first full-live action feature film to be converted from 2D to 3D, now that a film most have already seen making the jump, is this enough for you to buy into the 3D hype?

  • Night of the Living Dead gets textual reinterpretation

While we highly doubt producers would allow movie goers to actually dictate the dialogue in their films with in-movie text messages, a demonstration of such hilarity was recently shown at the Wired NextFest. Essentially, the original Night of the Living Dead was broken down to "500 frames that visually told the story from beginning to end." Participants were encouraged to send in texts, which showed up in the order that they were received in specified speech bubbles throughout the film. Granted, this whole process sinks in much better if you see it in action, so be sure to click on through to catch a videoed demonstration.[Thanks, blahblah]

  • Masters of Horror, a Blu-ray exclusive

We admit it. We have a rather unhealthy addiction to cheese-ball horror flicks. Only the truly awful fail to squeak through the rose-colored reviews we freely give to anyone within speaking distance. Some might consider it unhealthy, but my, how we love watching vixens and brain-dead sorority girls being dispatched in mischievous and often inventive ways. Soon, we'll get a taste of what Blu-ray can do to intensify the experience of a horror movie when Starz Home Entertainment releases Masters of Horror exclusively on Blu-ray. The Masters of Horror anthology stands as some of the best, current horror around, notable for its format on cable television. The Starz Home Entertainment umbrella covers a lot of territory, encompassing Anchor Bay Entertainment, so it's exciting to note that this announcement from Starz implies the inevitability of such classic horror franchises as Halloween, Night of the Living Dead, Evil Dead and Re-Animator. So needless to say, we are excited. Couldn't you tell? As of the announcement, no pricing details, content packaging or release date yet for its first Masters of Horror release.

  • Third Resident Evil film to be buried in desert

And in our wildest dreams, it would be right next to those E.T. The Extra Terrestrial cartridges. Too bad you can't win them all. Or even one, in the case of non-sir Paul W. Anderson. He's the man writing the script (if that's what we call randomly flinging words at a blank page) for Resident Evil Colon Extinction, the third film adaptation of Capcom's survival horror series. Previously, he directed the first Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat (hey, that wasn't so bad!) and Predator castration epic, Alien vs. Predator. Speaking at a recent Hollywood and Video Games summit, in Beverly Hills Mr. Anderson outlined his original vision for the shambling corpse of a trilogy. The first film would act as a prequel to the game, the second as an intersecting companion and third as a post script.Interestingly enough, the third film just happens to be set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, which is either a tired narrative device or some sort of meta-commentary on the series itself. The world's been overrun with undead fellows and the only survivors, which include Milla Jovovich's Alice, Jill Valentine and Code Veronica escapee Claire Redfield, must make a run for it in armored convoys. "So that's where the movie takes place, primarily in the deserts of Nevada and around Las Vegas. But of course, it's a Las Vegas that has kind of fallen now, because what's happened is, with no one to take care of it, the desert has come back in and half-buried Vegas. So... we built all these casinos which are sort of buried in the sand." We'll take a gamble and hold out some vague hope that this will pull a Resident Evil 4 and make the series sparkle.Or not. This Hollywood machine is rigged.[Thanks Killer_Twinkie!]
