Sure, the Wii rocked Europe this past weekend -- but the real winner was the DS, which outsold its new console brother by nearly two hundred thousand units. Of course, there were more DS units around, but hey, details, details ....But it's the same the world over. The Wii is not Nintendo's only star this holiday season, or even its brightest. The little handheld that could continues to rock crazy sales in every market. Best Buy and GameStop employees here in the States report that they can't keep them on the shelves, especially the newer Noble Coral Pink DS Lites. It's a good year to be a Nintendo fan.[Update 1: Since we're not in Japan, it's tragically Coral Pink. Noble is way cooler.]

Dying for one of those precious new (in the U.S., at least) pink DS Lites? You've waited just long enough to contribute to a good cause by buying one. Through October 7, Target stores will be donating 100% -- yep, that's everything -- of their profits from the sales of pink DS Lites to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This is a good week to snag that early Christmas gift ... or guys, surprise your girlfriends, sisters, or nieces with a cute new DS, and if anyone complains about the cost, just tell 'em that's the price of being a hero.[Thanks, juicebytim!]

  • Japan gets black DS Lite too, America sulks

Many would gladly offer up their lunch money for an opportunity to get their hands on the coveted black DS Lite, but unfortunately that simply isn't good enough for the Japanese and European schoolyard bullies tossing the sleek device back and forth over the head of a constantly leaping and visibly frustrated America. Nintendo of Japan's official website has been updated to reveal the Jet Black DS Lite which sees release this September, just a few months after Europe got the dark dual-screener. Unless the Nintendo of America headquarters are equipped with cauldrons of bubbling oil and other defensive devices that deal with vehement rioters, it would seem likely that the darkest Lite won't dally too long before finally landing on North American shores. Rioters keen on seeing the Noble Pink variant, however, will likely have to wait a bit longer. Attacking Nintendo HQ astride unicorns and flinging colorful streamers at the walls has been shown to be decidedly less effective at stirring up interest -- trust us, we found out the hard way.[Thanks creamsugar!]

  • But it's PINK!

It's called the Noble Pink, and Nintendo will be unleashing it upon an unsuspecting (and overwhelmingly girly) population come 20 July 2006. We're not entirely convinced that pink is indeed a noble color, but we've heard that it sits well with royalty. Queens totally dig it.Clarification: We jest. Being in possession of a pink, electronic handheld device does not indicate anything with regards to sexual orientation or manly vigor. Capitulation: That was the final heavy-handed joke in this post.[Thanks, creamsugar!]
