Fujitsu unveils LifeBook P8010 Pink Gold Edition with WWAN

Fujitsu's LifeBook P8010 was a star in its own right, but just months after its release, that original version is already looking stale. The newfangled LifeBook P8010 Limited Pink Gold Edition sports a sure-to-be-polarizing high-gloss finish, integrated 3.5G (HSDPA) WWAN, 12.1-inch WXGA SuperFine widescreen panel and Intel's Core 2 Duo SL7100 processor. You'll also find essentials like a 1.3-megapixel camera, dual-layer DVD writer, a battery good for six hours and a fingerprint reader. Looks like this one will go for $2,899 over in Australia (that's around $2,748 in Yankee dollars), but we've no word on whether it'll roll out globally.

Fujitsu's LifeBook P8010 gets reviewed

Believe it or not, it wasn't even two months ago that we laid hands on the up and coming Fujitsu LifeBook P8010 at CES, and shortly after becoming available to the masses, PC Magazine has rounded one up for review. Right out of the box, the unit was praised for feeling oh-so-light (2.8-pounds, for those counting) and including a built-in optical drive. Unfortunately, such a small footprint left little room for a full-fledged keyboard, and besides feeling "cramped," performance was nothing to write home about either. Granted, it did boast fairly impressive battery life, but given the heightened competition in the ultraportable area of late, these editors were forced to hand out a 3 out of 5 rating and wish that the P8010 came in at a lower price point.

For those out there (yes, we know you're out there) who've been refreshing Fujitsu's online webstore like mad just waiting for its cute-as-a-button LifeBook P8010 to become available -- well, we're probably telling you something you're already quite aware of. Nevertheless, we're sure everyone else not totally infatuated with the aforementioned machine (but still keenly interested in it) would love to know that it has indeed escaped from the FCC's lair and is now ready to be shipped to your door. Thankfully, Fujitsu will let you customize it to the hilt, but those looking to get in and out can snap up a low-end configuration for $1,699.

Fujitsu's LifeBook P8010 chills out at the FCC

Yeah, Fujitsu's P8010 is slated to ship next month, and we've already played around with one at CES this month, but there's nothing that adds confidence like a last minute stop at the FCC. According to the posted user's manual, you can expect a 12.1-inch WXGA display, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, an 80GB SATA hard drive, Intel's SL7100 VL processor, a GMA GS965 integrated graphics set, audio in / out, gigabit Ethernet, WiFi and optional Bluetooth. Furthermore, you'll find PC Card / SD slots, VGA out, a trio of USB 2.0 connectors, 4-pin FireWire, a 56k modem, docking port and an optional 1.3-megapixel camera. Sure enough, documentation asserts that this bugger only weighs 2.69-pounds with a battery installed, which makes us even antsier for its eventual release.

Fujitsu's forthcoming P8010 may not be ready to arrive at your doorstep, but that didn't stop the outfit from bringing one along to CES. Granted, this one here is actually a pre-production unit, but we learned that the final version isn't likely to change before it ships en masse to US customers in just a few weeks. Fujitsu revs the Lifebook P-series with the P8010

The Lifebook P7000 series has been getting pretty long in the tooth -- you know the end is near when the pink models show up -- and Fujitsu's taking the opportunity at CES to replace it with the P8000 series. The new P8010 bumps the screen size up to 12 inches and retains the P-series's built-in optical drive, but manages to come in even trimmer than the outgoing P7230, at just 2.7 pounds. A 1.2GHz Intel ULV U7600 Core 2 Duo and Vista combine to provide a 9-hour battery life with the standard battery, and Fujitsu will be shipping an extended life unit that'll go for 11 hours. Fujitsu says the a diamond black P8010 will hit in February, starting at $1,699, with a white version to follow.

Update: Indeed this is the American version of the LOOX R, which means we can put all that Penryn speculation to bed, since the U7600 is a Merom chip. [Thanks, Jack]
