One Shots: A fiery finale
After a long, hard day of fighting crime in Paragon City, many heroes like to head for Pocket D and unwind with a dance, a drink, and perhaps a bit of flirting. With that said, if you're on Virtue, City of Heroes' unofficial role-playing server, you might even run into a party centered on one of the server's more interesting personae, such as this recent event that first-time submitter, Dekar, wandered into and got a screenshot of for us. He writes in to explain: "Tonight I saw an interesting community sight. I logged in to City of Heroes on my main, Torch Light, to work out some aggression on the Freakshow tonight before bed -- and saw this in Pocket D. My server Virtue has its own fan radio station, The Cape, and apparently the local listeners were giving a lighter-held-high finish to the evening's show. Didn't catch the music but it seems DJ Shecky was on fire tonight! (I am so sorry for that joke...)" One Shots is looking for screenshots from all over the multiverse, so this weekend why not grab some images for us? City of Heroes ramps up the excitement for Comic Con
The City of Heroes crew have fired up their travel powers to attend Comic Con, which runs from July 23rd to 27th in San Diego. The band of heroes in attendance includes Community Manager Alex 'Lighthouse' Von Minden, Community Co-Ordinator (and PvP enthusiast) Jill 'Ex Libris' Henderson, and developer Ray 'Blue Steel' Snyder, among others.The big event of CoH's Comic Con is the Pocket D Jubilee, which has been scheduled for Saturday July 26th. You needn't be a City of Heroes subscriber to attend; all you need do is visit the booth and ask for a VIP Pass. The event is open to all Comic Con Attendees and City of Heroes subscribers that are 21+, have valid I.D. and have picked up a pass from the NCsoft booth. In the spirit of Pocket D, the interdimensional nightclub where heroes and villains can mingle in peace, the first thousand visitors to the booth also get a free drink ticket, one per person - again, provided they're 21 or older.The VIP Pass will also unlock a special item in-game. NCsoft haven't yet announced what it is, but availability is limited to this one show only.
Cinemassively: Time to Start
I'm constantly amazed at the creativity of people that play games where it's not easy to make Machinima. They don't have custom animations, model viewers, chromakeying, or just about anything else. City of Heroes and City of Villains are two of those games.Samuraiko Productions has created an energetic, fist-pumping music video, set to Blue Man Group's "Time to Start." Our very own CoX lead, Jonathan Northwood, wrote about her talent just last month! Set in Pocket D, one of the most recognizable areas in the game, both heroes and villains were able to to contribute to the video. Winter is coming to the City of... Universe
According to w00t Radio another winter storm is fast approaching Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. This year's City of Heroes/Villains Winter Event will have all the fabulous features from winter's past, including access to the Ski Chalet (from Pocket D), and the Father Time mission to save Baby New Year. But it will also have some new and wonderful additions.When players log in they'll receive the Gifted Badge (for all those badge ho ho hoes who haven't added it to their collection yet), and a swanky set of Fuzzy Earmuffs (available at the costume shop). Additionally each player will receive two temporary powers. One is called "Holiday Spirit" and grants 48 hours of reduced (by 25%) Debt Protection (always helpful when taking on cronies of the dreaded Winter Lord); the other is "Holiday Cheer," which lets players physically give a random mystery gift to another player.The Gamester is also back and has left every zone littered with gifts. As always some hold wondrous treats (inspirations, enhancements, or temporary powers) while others may unleash a troupe of Snowbeasts upon you.Ya, ya... old news to veteran CoX players, so what about the new stuff? This year's even will include a new type of salvage called Candy Canes. Each successfully unwrapped present (one that doesn't drop a lump of coal) earns players a Candy Cane which can then be turned in to the Candy Keeper inside Pocket D for yet another mystery gift!But there's more! Veteran players know that you can ski down the slopes near the chalet, but this year the slalom course will be timed! That's right Heroes and Villains... Gold, Silver and Bronze Medalist Badges can be earned this go around. Exact dates have not been released, so stay tuned to the official forums for further information. You don't want to get left out in the cold do you?
Player vs Radio: the volume is fading
DJ Krelo is one of the owners of Player vs Radio, and she handles both the administrative end and personnel support. Even though NCsoft's CoX Meet & Greet was fairly high-energy, she was kind enough to take some time out of her event coverage to give us an interview about PvR, its history, and what it's looking forward to in the future.PvR is a cross-MMO station -- meaning that they don't limit themselves to the City of Heroes and City of Villains properties, but broadcast within a wide range of MMO titles such as Vanguard, World of Warcraft, and Second Life -- and their music rotation is based on player requests. DJ Krelo herself is focused on Gothic, Industrial, Trance, Techno, and Synth-Pop, but every DJ has their own range of music they play. DJ Krelo has been broadcasting for almost two years -- starting with a former station, and moving to PvR after they opened a little over a year ago -- while PvR itself has been broadcasting continuously since they started, save for a brief hiatus during the RIAA royalties debacle.
