Some of the UK's iconic telephone boxes will soon be converted into small personal offices. Bar Works, a company operating a trio of co-working spaces in New York, has leased 15 of BT's old call receptacles in London, Leeds and Edinburgh. They'll soon be kitted out with WiFi access, a printer and scanner, a 25-inch monitor, a wireless mouse, a plug powerbank and a hot drinks machine. Aimed at entrepreneurs, the "Pod Works" subscription will run you £19.99 per month and net you access to any box, at any time of day or night. Access will be regulated through a smartphone app.

PodWorks is a great utility that nearly every iPod owner (and iPhone owner) will want to have around. In a nutshell, it lets you copy songs and videos from any iPod or iPhone to any Mac running OS 10.4x. It works wonderfully.Version 2.9.3 brings some very nice changes, including Applescript improvements (not support for Applescript, but the script the app runs has been re-written) New method of reporting errors Duplication prevention improvements There's more, of course, and you can read the (highly detailed) change log here. PodWorks will cost you $8US. Version 2.9.3 is a free upgrade for existing users. It works with every model of iPod (even the original 5GB!) and the iPhone.

PodWorks is one of those apps that you don't know you need... until you need it. This $8 app allows you to copy music from your iPod to your Mac. 'Wait', I hear you saying, 'isn't that what happens when I connect my iPod to my Mac anyway? You're dumb, this post is dumb, and so is this app.' Hold your horses, my impatient rhetorical device! PodWorks allows you to copy music from your iPod to any other Mac without having to sync it to iTunes.I'm sure you're aware that Apple, and the major content producers, imagine the iPod/iTunes relationship thusly: Buy an iPod (or iPhone). Buy lots and lots of music and videos from iTunes Sync your iPod/iPhone with one iTunes library Reach nirvana It is true that as of late Apple has allowed you to use the iPod to transfer music purchased from iTunes from one registered machine to another, but PodWorks let's you transfer any song from your iPod to your Mac. But that's not all! The most recent version of PodWorks also recognizes iPhones (as you can see from the screenshot above. And yes, my iPhone is named Scott Phone. Got a problem with that?).I have recommended PodWorks to scores of people, and I recommend it to you. It is well worth the $8 price tag.

Although there are many solutions for getting the hidden audio files from your iPod back onto your Mac, many folks have long considered PodWorks to the best of the lot. After more than two years since the last update, it was revised this week to version 2.9. The most significant improvement is that it's now a Universal Binary, though there have apparently been some bug fixes with regards to videos and an update to the interface. If you only need to transfer songs occasionally, the donationware Senuti will probably be adequate but if you're regularly transferring songs, I suggest giving PodWorks a look.PodWorks is $8 and a demo is available.[via Infinite Loop]

This week in Ask TUAW we'll look at camera RAW support, getting the Shuffle into the iPhone, recovering songs from an iPod to a new Mac and more. As always please leave questions for next week in the comments to this post. Unfortunately we can't always get to all of the questions, but many times your fellow TUAW readers will have insightful advice as well. Now, let's get to it!
