With all the stress of Christmas shopping, you may have left someone off your gift list: Yourself. This is just a friendly reminder that Microsoft has you covered this week, with 50 percent discounts on Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Prince of Persia Classic. You can grab both at $7.50 and $5, respectively, starting tomorrow. Lara Croft is co-op too, so you could even claim that you bought it for someone else (good luck explaining why it only works on your Xbox though). Oh, and if you're looking for a digital lump of coal, Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime will also be 50 percent off at $5.

  • Prince of Persia leaps to Commodore 64

Finally, those stalwarts who refuse to "upgrade" from their trusty Commodore 64 computers can experience that hot new game, Prince of Persia. Homebrew developer mrsid ported the 1989 game from its original Apple 2 version, making the cartridge image available for download from his site. If you have a C64 or 128 and a flashable C64 cartridge -- or, more likely, if you have a C64 emulator -- you can check out the achievement. The rest of us will have to settle for this video, which looks remarkably smooth for an unofficial port on such an old system. It drew the attention of Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner, who commented to say "I'm amazed and humbled by the amount of work this must have taken." Mechner also solved the mystery of why there wasn't an official C64 version, even though there were so many ports: "Back in 1989, when I was making POP on the Apple II, I couldn't get anyone interested in doing a C64 port," he commented, "because it was too old a system."

Psst. Hey, buddy, over here. We've got a line on some Xbox Live Arcade titles that ... fell off the back of a truck, if you will. A handful of back-alley deals on games like Prince of Persia Classic, TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled and Toy Soldiers are buried on the Xbox Marketplace. Fortunately, we've shined the "spotlight" on all of the sales after the jump. We were just kidding about that "falling off the back of a truck" thing, by the way. There appears to be nothing dubious about these discounts. Also, unless our understanding of how the internet works is wildly off base, we're pretty sure trucks aren't involved in the digitial distribution business.

  • Rumor: The Forgotten Sands may include Prince of Persia Classic

According to a BBFC listing, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands may include a special bonus -- Prince of Persia Classic. Unfortunately, the listing isn't enough to discern whether the classic version would be the same game now available on Xbox Live and PSN, or if it's part of some kind of special edition package. When asked for comment, a Ubisoft representative told Joystiq it would not comment on rumors. Although our questions remain unanswered, at least we can look forward to the Sands of Time prince coming to the HD era and answering a few other questions. [Via Destructoid]

  • Prince of Persia Classic jumping onto PSN

Prince of Persia Classic is a remake of the original Prince of Persia which debuted on the Apple II, with improved graphics, new enemies and better controls. The game was released on XBLA July of last year, but according to an article published on Sony's Games and Media News site last week, it will be headed for PSN as well. This confirms a ESRB listing we noticed back in July. No word on a release date or price, but we are assuming pricing-wise, it will remain the same as its XBLA counterpart, which means it shall cost $10.[Via Joystiq]

An article on the PlayStation Games & Media News site reveals that a PSN version of Prince of Persia Classic is on its way. The PSN version appears to be the same as the XBLA release from last year, which saw a graphical and control upgrade to the original (and retro frustrating) Prince of Persia from 1989.There's currently no price announced for the title, but if we had to guess, it would be $10 like the XBLA version. We've contacted Ubisoft and asked about a release date.[Via GameBytes]%Gallery-3853%

  • ESRB: Prince of Persia Classic heading to PSN

One of the greatest retro revivals of all time may finally be heading to the PS3, if this update to the ESRB is true. Ubisoft's Prince of Persia Classic revived the original game, but used completely modern graphics a la Bionic Commando Rearmed. Classic debuted exclusively on XBLA last year, but it appears it won't be long until PS3 fans will get a chance to play the game. The ESRB has always been a reliable source of game leaks, and we doubt this case is any different. PSN is already a showcase to stellar PS3 exclusive downloadables, and getting XBLA's best games on our service only makes it even better. See the original XBLA trailer after the cut.[Via NeoGAF; Thanks, Gambit07!]

So, we spent a better part of this morning running through Prince of Persia for Xbox Live Arcade. To answer the most obvious question: yes, it is Prince of Persia. Feel free to draw as many conclusions from that as you wish. For many people, that alone should be enough information on which to base a purchase (or non-purchase). For the rest of you, read our impressions after the break.

Lest you haven't noticed, Prince of Persia Classic is now available on Xbox Live Arcade. Spruced up with new moves, new enemies, and speedier gameplay, the classic title is reborn for a new generation of gamers. Old school gamers have nothing to worry about though, it essentially the same game with a few minor tweaks. Even the one hour time limit is still in effect. Should you desire to pick up Prince of Persia Classic for yourself, it will set you back 800 MS Points.

Since we know that Time is not like a river that flows swift and sure in one direction, you'll no doubt appreciate this reminder that Prince of Persia Classic -- the re-imagining of the platforming classic -- is hitting Xbox Live Arcade this week as evidenced by this handy media alert. While Ubisoft's earlier confirmation didn't mention how many Billy Bucks the Prince would demand, Microsoft had no such compunction clearly stating the title will cost a not unsuspected 800 MS Points ($10). Oh, and the hardest achievement? Finishing the game without dying. If you've played Prince of Persia, you oughta know better than to even try. While Ubisoft may have spilled the beans in regards to Prince of Persia Classic's releasing this Wednesday, Microsoft has caught up and officially confirmed that announcement, as well as price point. The updated title, with its snazzy new mazes, traps and graphical enhancements, is going to run you 800 Microsoft Points. We suppose that could have been expected, but it still may turn a few off from the title. We'll have to wait and see if the demo pulls us in, nostalgic memories notwithstanding. What's your take on the game and price?

Leaked last month by the USK, basically Germany's ESRB, Joystiq has uncovered a video of Prince of Persia Classic for Xbox Live Arcade. Those of you out there expecting a be-turbaned hero may be disappointed, as the game uses the Prince as he was in Sands of Time. The entire game gets a graphical overhaul and honestly it looks pretty good. It also looks like the game has been streamlined somewhat to speed up gameplay. The pacing of the original Prince of Persia was a tad slow, so this may not be a bad thing. All in all, Prince of Persia Classic looks to be a top notch title for Xbox Live Arcade. Now how about we get some Out of This World?
