Will.i.am's tech company i.am+ revealed to TechCrunch at CES today it had recently purchased headphone maker Earin. The company didn't disclose how much it paid for Earin and Earin's name might not make it through the acquisition, but Earin's products fit with those of i.am+ for the most part, and the purchase seems to be a more logical move than others recently made by the company.

Even though Will.i.am's Puls wristband has yet to exit its invitation-only stage, the artist-turned-entrepreneur is already working on another wearable project. He's now teaming up with Gucci Timepieces, a branch of fashion brand Gucci, to introduce a luxury smartband that doesn't need to be tethered to smartphone to work. As it stands, details are scarce, but the new device looks pretty similar to the Puls, which Will.i.am debuted last October. It could very well be a rebrand of the Puls with Gucci's name attached to it, but no one will tell you that.

Phil Molyneux, the man who led Sony into the 4K era as its chief operating officer and president, is making a surprising move for his next gig: He's now Will.i.am's right-hand man for i.am+, the musician's wearable technology startup. Molyneux joined the company as its president and COO a few weeks ago, where he's basically tasked with making Will.i.am's dreamy vision of computing come true. The first example of that is the $399 Puls wristband, a bulky 3G-equipped wearable that the company believes can replace your phone. Aside from the star power behind it, there wasn't much about the Puls that seemed compelling when it was announced last fall. But Molyneux's participation has us thinking that Will.i.am's crazy wearable idea might actually have legs.

What hasn't will.i.am done? He's a mega-producer, solo artist, founding member of The Black Eyed Peas and, yes, even a tech entrepreneur with a significant history at CES. With his new "computer on your wrist," the $399 i.am PULS+, announced this past October, will.i.am's ready to dive deep into the wearables space under his own i.am+ brand umbrella. But it's not all about the tech, as we learned on the Engadget CES stage. He's got plans to tie the fashion industry into his product line -- former Vogue editor-at-large André Leon Talley's onboard to lend his expertise -- and inspire underprivileged kids to tackle careers in tech. You can watch it all go down in the video just after the break.

Will.i.am has just revealed the Puls at Dreamforce 2014, a smartwatch that doesn't need to be tethered to a phone to send texts, emails or make and take phone calls. In fact, Will kept saying it's not a watch, because smartwatches don't typically come with SIM cards, which the Puls does have, along with speakers and a touchscreen display that curves along with its body, making the device look more like a cuff than a traditional watch. The Puls (a product out of his wearable tech company, i.am+) has 16GB of storage onboard, 1GB of RAM, GPS, a battery that goes around the bracelet, pedometer and accelerometer, all powered by an Android-based platform and a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It connects to the internet not only via WiFi, but also via 3G, which means it has carrier partners: the Puls works with AT&T in the US and O2 in the UK.
