Serious Sam Collection gets Mental in Europe July 12
A new Serious Sam bundle will make its debut on Xbox 360 next month, July 12. Included within the Serious Sam Collection are Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter and Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter, HD remakes of the first two original Serious Sam games, plus sequel Serious Sam 3: BFE and its "Jewel of the Nile" DLC. Rounding out the collection is Mommy's Best Games' side-scroller, Serious Sam Double D XXL. This specific announcement applies to Europe where The Mastertronic Group, with blessings from developer Croteam and publisher Devolver Digital, will offer the Serious Sam Collection. We've inquired about a North American release and will update this post when we hear back.

Convenient.
Devolver Digital open to indie pitches at GDC, set appointments now
Serious Sam publisher Devolver Digital will hear indie pitches as part of its "Pitch Fork Parker Project" at this year's Game Developers Conference. The project is a continuation of the successful Serious Sam Indie Series, in which Devolver Digital and Croteam produced Serious Sam "indie titles" with developers Vlambeer, Mommy's Best Games and Be-Rad Entertainment.Devolver will provide "completion funds and a publishing deal" to the three best game prototypes, demos or pitches it's presented. Indies interested in getting in front of the execs should email "pitchfork@devolverdigital.com" with details on their team and project to set up a meeting.
Serious Sam titles are 75 percent off this weekend on Steam
It seems like every other week Serious Sam is on sale on Steam, and this weekend is no different. If you've yet to pounce on one of the preceding deals, then know you can get 75% off the game this weekend -- whether you want to snag the games piecemeal or all together in one bundle. Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter and Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter are marked down to $3.74 and $4.99, respectively. The Serious Sam Gold Edition, which includes both HD remakes and the original PC games, is $9.99. If you're looking for just the HD remakes, then you can snag them both in a bundle for $7.49.
All Serious Sam titles 75% off on Steam this weekend
No, seriously, every Serious Sam HD game is seriously 75 percent off all this weekend on Steam -- meaning Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter for $3.74, The Second Encounter for $4.99, and the recently released Gold Edition for $10 (which includes both remakes and the originals). This deal is unfortunately exclusive to PC Steam gamers, as the titles have yet to receive the Mac treatment. And that's seriously a shame, isn't it?
Report: Serious Sam HD: Gold Edition shoots up Steam on Thursday
Fan site Seriously! supposedly got the scoop from Devolver Digital, publisher of HD remakes Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter and Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter, about Serious Sam HD: Gold Edition -- a bundle which includes both remakes, as well as both original games. That can't be good for the original games' self-esteem, being bundled with sleeker, more attractive-looking versions. Have you no heart, Devolver Digital? According to Seriously!, Steam users will be able to download Gold Edition on Thursday for $39.99s. We've followed up with Devolver Digital for confirmation and will let you know what we hear back.
Serious Sam: The First Encounter (classic) now on GOG
What you may not know about Sam, resident evil-alien-thing-killer and titular hero of the Serious Sam series, is that he's a serious guy. No, we don't mean he can't take a joke -- he's serious about savings, whether it be a coupon on a can of Campbell's Chunky or the fate of the whole world, he's all about the savings. And now GOG is saving you from a meaningless existence by offering the original Serious Sam: The First Encounter for $10. That Hamilton will not only net you the original shooter, but also the game's soundtrack, though we can't imagine why anyone would want that. We panic enough when we hear this in the game -- we don't need to start looking over our shoulder at every crosswalk for fear of kamikaze, combustible dudes running us down, you know?
It's an XBL Deal of the Week extrabonanza
If Xbox Live were a used car lot, it would be positively festooned with colorful flags and packed to the brim with giant, inflatable animals this week. Six XBLA games have reduced prices this week and, what's more, each one is actually worth your attention. Worms 2: Armageddon, Peggle and Duke Nukem 3D have all seen their prices knocked from 800 ($10) to a pittance: 400 ($5). Meanwhile, Serious Sam HD, Battlefield 1943 and Call of Duty Classic have dropped from 1200 ($15) to 800 ($10). Add all those up and you've got six nutritious, filling games for $45 (through Sunday). Seriously though, Peggle? For $5? And Worms 2? You'd have to have heart of stone (or a wallet filled with moths) to turn that down. Serious Sam HD tops XBLA January sales
We've flipped another page on the giant-sized "Helicopters of 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand" calendar at Joystiq HQ, and that means it's time once again for GamerBytes' terrific look at the month's XBLA sales. The big winner for January was Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter, which had over 35,000 players by month's end, followed by Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment, which brought in nearly 21,000. The "You're Bumming Us Out" award for January has to go to Matt Hazard: Blood, Bath and Beyond, which has no data "as the game appears to have broken lists." Seriously, Matt Hazard: BBB, you're bumming us out.
Steam offers 'Serious Sam HD Four Pack' deal
Have you wanted to check out Serious Sam HD, yet haven't had the ample supply of greenbacks to pony up? Steam is running a pretty sweet deal right now with a four pack bundle. By slapping down très Benjamins ($60), you can get four copies of the super happy fun time remake of Croteam's classic, essentially a buy-three-get-one deal and solid way to get an early lead in the Great Gift Giver of 2010 competition. Speaking of giving gifts: you'd also be able to give the gift of cooperation and the promise to rescue your friends from headless, screaming men holding bombs running at full speed toward them. If there's a better way to tell someone you care, we really haven't heard of it. [Via Big Download]
X3F TV -- XBLA in Brief: Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter
Are you tired of first-person shooters that make you think? Do you long for enemies that simply charge directly toward you, showing no concern for personal safety, let alone tactics? Have you been looking for a game that throws strategy out the window in favor of massive amounts of baddies all swarming you, some of them exploding on contact? If so, Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter is probably for you. No recharging health, no cover system, no perks, just relentless, punishing action. All of it can be yours for 1200 ($15). This Wednesday: XBLA gets Serious (Sam)
Considering there's really nothing serious about it -- some of the enemies have bombs for heads -- we're not sure how Serious Sam wound up with its name. It could be comic irony, or perhaps merely for its delightful sibilance. Honestly, we may never know. What we do know is that Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter is this week's XBLA release, as promised last month. Sporting newly fancified graphics, online co-op and some serious action (oh that's it!), the game will be available for 1200 ($15).
XBLA Serious Sam pushed to January
After revealing the news that it would be giving Serious Sam: The Second encounter an HD makeover, Devolver Digital has now dropped some bad news: Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter has been delayed on the Xbox 360. According to the Devolver Digital Twitter account, the XBLA version of the game has been pushed to January. No specific date was given, though we're willing to bet it'll be a Wednesday, which narrows it down to January 6, 13, 20 or 27. Where are you putting your chips? [Via Shacknews]
Snap Judgment: Serious Sam HD
In Serious Sam, you use an increasingly powerful and ridiculous set of weaponry to blast an increasingly horrifying array of demons back to the dimension they came from. To put it another way, Serious Sam is what your grandmother imagines every video game to be. Serious Sam: The First Encounter has just been brought into the modern era by Majesco and Devolver Digital with Serious Sam HD, on Steam today with a $20 price tag. I stepped into the beefy hero's signature T-shirt for a couple of hours to see how well the experience had held up over the years. %Gallery-66818%
Serious Sam HD keeps it classy with new infomercial
A classic "As Seen on TV" infomercial seems more than fitting for the self-parodying, Croatian-developed FPS, Serious Sam -- now "more definition-ier than ever." As with any infomercial, you must be wary of all the numbers and testimonials used. For example, we highly doubt the game runs at "6005 polygons per krundle." We're fairly certain this game doesn't even feature krundles ... unless Croteam has added some truly surprising new content to the upcoming HD remix. %Gallery-66818% [Thanks, iHavePants]
No joking about this Serious Sam HD footage
There's some hot footage of Serious Sam HD available on GamesTrailers (embedded past the break for your convenience) right now and, well, if you've played through Serious Sam before (or ever watched a Lord of the Rings trailer), this is going to be old hat to you. Still, despite the footage's lack of completely new things to look at, it's still a good primer for folks who have no idea what all of the fuss is about (hint: it's the crazy, non-stop funs). %Gallery-66818%
Croteam seriously remaking Serious Sam for XBLA [update: It's coming to PC too]
The Xbox 360 is, of course, a great system for new first-person-shooters, but with XBLA re-releases of games like Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, and Duke Nukem 3D, it's also becoming the system of choice for classic FPS games. Now Croteam is working on an XBLA version of Serious Sam, called, unsurprisingly, Serious Sam HD. Publisher Majesco told Eurogamer that the remake, which will "re-imagine The First Encounter," will be available on XBLA late this summer for 1,200 Microsoft Points. The new version will include four-player online co-op. Though we look forward to blowing up stuff with abandon, we are a bit concerned that this news could mean that the "next Serious Sam FPS game" to which Croteam's CEO referred is actually the first one again. Update: cdv Software Entertainment AG has confirmed to VideoGamer that the game will also be appearing on PC. %Gallery-66818%
