It's no daylight robbery: Thief is a deserving UK chart leader, especially since we're knee deep in the Q1 downpour of new releases. The Eidos Montreal game fended off plenty of competition to record the second highest sales for a No.1 game this year, and 75 percent of those were on PS4 and Xbox One. The new releases that fell short of the crown jewels include Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare in 4th, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 in 10th, and placing just outside the top ten is PS3 HD-em-up Tales of Symphonia: Chronicles in 13th. Konami may've been hoping to see the second Lords of Shadow place higher, but it's still the second biggest debut for the franchise (in Chart Track history), only topped by the first game.

This is a Deja Review: A quick, unscored look at the new features and relative agelessness of a remade, revived or re-released game. Two classic RPGs have finally arrived on the PlayStation 3 as Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, allowing many players to experience two of the previous decade's most satisfying adventures, Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, for the first time. Originally released on the GameCube, Tales of Symphonia tells the story of a young daydreamer named Lloyd Irving. He becomes a hero over the course of a globe-trotting quest with his friends. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, released on Wii in 2008, explores events that took place in the years after its predecessor's conclusion. The lead protagonist is a young lad named Emil who despises village hero Lloyd for seemingly justifiable reasons, though he's too timid to act on his hatred. Before long, a run-in with some unusual strangers forces him to embark on an adventure of his own. The two games are similar, sharing key mechanics like active battles and a lack of random encounters (enemies are visible and can be avoided). Dawn of the New World, however, allows players to ask monsters to join the team once they have been thoroughly trounced, a unique twist for the series. Neither game was particularly innovative upon release, but that works out for the best. Fantasy tropes are supported by enjoyable Japanese role-playing game elements, borrowed by previous Tales games and from genre staples like Star Ocean, Dragon Quest and Shin Megami Tensei. There's plenty of content without needlessly complicated systems that might prevent newcomers from joining in on the fun.

The PlayStation Store updated today with new games across every platform, led by the launches of Thief and Basement Crawl on PS4. Thief joins another new release in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 on PS3 this week. PS3 owners can pick up The Batman Bundle, which includes Batman: Arkham Origins and the Batman: The Dark Knight Returns animated film as well as the Tales of Symphonia Chronicles bundle that comprises both Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. Rounding out this week's PS3 additions is Magus and Pac-Man Museum, the latter being a $20 pack of games spanning the yellow gobbler's series. Vita owners only get one new game this week: Mahjong 2 World Contest, as well as PSOne Classic Herc's Adventures, also available on PS3 and PSP. Though Vita owners can now download the Crackle app to watch movies and TV shows, the marquee media streaming addition this week is the WWE Network app on PS3 and PS4. [Image: Square Enix]

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles hits North America the same week as Europe, with the high-def RPG collection confirmed to arrive here on February 25. The news comes shortly after the reveal of the Euro date, which is February 28. Chronicles contains PS3 remasters of GameCube and PS2 game Tales of Symphonia, and its Wii sequel Dawn of the New World. It's a bundle that'll have Tales fans fidgeting for the next few months, but even if it's not your thing you can still bop to the very boppable remastered music in this new trailer.

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, the PS3 HD bundle of Tales of Symphonia and Dawn of the New World, is coming to Europe and Australasia on February 28. The remastered RPG collection remains registered to arrive in North America sometime in "early 2014." Namco Bandai also announced today the bundle's collector's edition is headed for Europe and Australasia, limited to 10,000 copies across both regions. It includes five Chibi Kyun Chara figures, a paperback novel chronicling (ho ho hoooo) the events between Symphonia and sequel Dawn of the New World, a soundtrack, and "special collector's packaging." The same collector's edition was announced for North America earlier this month, limited to 15,000 copies across the region and priced $100.

The $100 edition of Chronicles features five Chibi Kyun Chara figurines from Tales of Symphonia , a multi-disc soundtrack, specialized packaging and a paperback novel that dives into the events between both games. Namco Bandai says the set will be limited to 15,000 copies.

Hopefully you enjoy animated cutscenes, as the latest trailer for Namco Bandai's Tales of Symphonia Chronicles largely ignores gameplay footage in favor of over three and a half minutes of wide-eyed anime tropes delivering exposition like a busted sprinkler.

After regarding it a mere rumor just days ago, series producer Hideo Baba announced an HD remake bundle of PS2 and GameCube RPG Tales of Symphonia and its Wii sequel Dawn of the New World at the Tales of Festival in Japan. The HD remake collection is expected to launch on October 10 in Japan and in early 2014 in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Announced for PS3 only, the pack was revealed with the working title Tales of Symphonia Chronicles. That sounds much better than "Perfect Edition" to us.
