Rock Band Weekly: OK Go, The Police, War
Next week's Rock Band DLC announcement is a day early (wonder why?), featuring four individual tracks from three different artists. Details after the break.
ESRB outs 'Lips: I (Heart) the 80s'
For those of you looking to put your '80s singing chops to the test, it would appear that iNiS will be offering you just that chance if a recent ESRB listing for a fourth installment in the Lips series is to be believed. "Lips: I (Heart) the 80s" was recently spotted by IGN over on the ratings website, sporting a description that reveals at least two tracks from the 1980s-centric title -- The Police's "Roxanne" and Rick James' "Super Freak." The game is also said to feature "depictions of men and women in revealing outfits performing provocative choreography -- for example, women in negligees, black bras, panties dancing inside a classroom; large amounts of exposed cleavage, some grinding dance moves; and background images of storefronts/signs reading '25 cent Peepshows,' 'Live Sex Theatre,' and 'Topless Girls Dancing.'" Gosh golly! Regardless, with the recent release of Lips: Party Classics and today's ESRB listing, we have to imagine the official announce of Lips: I (Heart) the 80s is just around the corner. We'll be prepping our boom boxes with plenty of Public Enemy until then. [Via IGN]
Rock Band Weekly: HIM, Marilyn Manson, The Police
Last week, the Rock Band Store got a few healthy slices of Americana with tracks from Otis Redding and the Brian Setzer Orchestra. This week's offerings are much more foreign -- there's a three-pack from Finnish rock band HIM, a song from Britain's One Night Only, a track from The Police, and a song from Marilyn Manson, whom we all know actually descends from an extinct alien race whose name our human tongues could never hope to pronounce. Rock Band Wiikly: Megadeth, Jane's Addiction, Oasis, Sting
We knew all about Jane's Addiction hitting Rock Band 2 on the Wii this week, but we had no idea the content would show up with so many friends! Joining Jane are Brit rockers Oasis, the very famous Sting, and Dave Mustaine with his crew of metal rockers, Megadeth. If you're looking for new Rock Band tracks, then this is your week!
Universal Music Group's Blu-ray schedule starts with The Police: Certifiable concert album
Universal Music Group's longtime support of the Blu-ray format finally gets some teeth November 24, when The Police: Certifiable, a live set recorded in Buenos Aires, hits the shelves. To draw attention to its 25 releases scheduled for the rest of this year (and 20 more due in January), Music Week says it and other format backers are sponsoring a Music on Blu-ray event September 25 in London to get the ball rolling. 109 minutes of Sting & friends celebrating their 30th anniversary? We're there, again.[Image courtesy of Wikipedia]
Sting to shred in Guitar Hero: World Tour
Along with Jimi Hendrix and Ozzy (and other notable classic rockers), Sting will have his likeness featured in the upcoming Guitar Hero: World Tour. The original story over at USAToday.com has since been pulled (all we've got is this image to go on), so we can't find exact details as to what capacity he'll be featured (Will he be playing The Police songs? His own tracks?), but the screen above tells us the man will be rocking the bass. Any Sting fans out there? Like his old stuff, or his new stuff? Or both?%Gallery-23491%[Via Go Nintendo]
Stewart Copeland composes BlackBerry Bold soundtrack with negative effects
You know how Stewart Copeland plays that insanely slick triplet hi-hat part in "Message in a Bottle," and every time you hear it you wonder how it's possible for him to stay so perfectly in time? And you know how his drums fit so perfectly in the pocket with Sting and Andy Summers on pretty much anything The Police ever touched despite the fact they all hated each other? Well, Copeland's "soundtrack" for the BlackBerry Bold -- commissioned by RIM -- should rid you of all of those amazing memories real fast. The drummer provided six ringtones, an alarm sound, and a Bold "theme" for the company's new device, yet not one of them is remotely pleasant to listen to. In a word or two? They stink.[Via CrackBerry; Photo courtesy of spisharam]
Rock Band Weekly: Blondie, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Police
We're sending out an SOS to the world to try and stop us from downloading the tracks in next week's Rock Band update. We fear that $5.50 has already jumped out of our wallets, run over to the console and is attempting to push itself inside as a willing sacrifice for Blondie, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Police.Classic Rock pack (440 Microsoft Points / $5.50) "Call Me" - Blondie (160 MS Points / $2) "Simple Man" - Lynyrd Skynyrd (160 MS Points / $2) "Message in Bottle" - The Police (160 MS Points / $2) Videos for this week's Rock Band DLC are after the break per usual. The songs will be available next Tuesday on Xbox 360 and the last three weeks of songs featured on Rock Band Weekly will be available next Thursday with the new PSN store.
Rock Band Weekly: The Clash, The Police and The Ramones
The Rock Band servers are starting to take a pounding every Monday morning as the faithful desperately clamor to find out this week's DLC. This week we head to the late '70s for a triple dose of off-the-beaten-path hits from some major artists.Three-song Pack (440 MS points/$5.50) Complete Control - The Clash (160 MS points/ $2) Truth Hits Everybody - The Police (160 MS points/ $2) Teenage Lobotomy - The Ramones (160 MS Points / $2) We've got videos of the songs after the break for purchasing assistance.
