  • Transformers 2 tops chart, best selling Blu-ray of all time?

The first week numbers are in and they're pretty good -- Michael Bay's latest movie moved 500,000 Blu-ray Discs in one day and a total of 1.2 Million for the week. Now we didn't go back and compare that to previous years, but that is without a doubt the best week any Blu-ray title has had this year, so we'd assume its safe to say this is the best selling Blu-ray title of all time -- in its first week anyways. Love it or hate it, there were plenty of people willing to run out the first week and buy this movie. This has to ease the minds of Paramount execs at least a little bit. Too bad for Hollywood that this will probably be as good as it gets this year, although we admit the movies we're looking forward to on Blu-ray still remain unreleased.

It's pretty hard to miss this week's premiere Blu-ray release, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen may not be as well regarded as the first movie, but the hype train has continued to roll. Still holding out on a possible purchase? A slew of reviews of the Blu-ray edition are available to help you make a choice, so dig in and see what there is. The Dallas Morning News says FX can't turn a bad film into a good one, but were still impressed by the Blu-ray special features, while Blu-ray.com's reviewer had perfect scores the video, audio and supplements of the IMAX edition, calling it "THE one to own" (reports on AVSForum.com also point to a volume difference between editions) Our friends at Cinematical actually preferred the flick at home to the theater experience, citing the thrill of checking out the preparations entailed in making such an explosive movie, plus the ability to pause and take in each set piece individually. DVD Town actually split up review duties between tow people with one on the quality of the flick, and the other on audio, video and extras, finding this flick "the kind of sonic spectacular one can use to impress friends and neighbors who haven't bought into Blu-ray yet." You'll have to wait until October 20 to get a good look at Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen's IMAX sequences, but you can see an exclusive clip of one of the behind the scenes segments featured on the disc right now. Check the behind the scene pre-vis breakdown after the break along with a list of Blu-ray exclusive specs for this 2 disc set, with Blu-ray fanboy Michael Bay at the helm we have high expectations to this followup to a movie that blazed trails on two different high definition disc formats. even that case at the right is getting in on the augmented reality packaging trend, letting webcam owning users access a special website with even more adventures involving, surprisingly enough, ridiculously large transforming robots from outer space. Following an apparently successful Game with Fame session with actress Megan Fox, Activision has announced that the developers behind Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will take on the community themselves this Friday. Excited? Well, there's a catch: The devs at Luxoflux will only be online playing the recently released Character & Map Pack Plus DLC, meaning interested gamers will have to throw down 800 ($10) to square off against the team. Of course, if you already own the DLC you're welcome to jump in this Friday, September 4, from 5PM to 9PM (Eastern) and participate in punching giant robots in the face. You know, kind of the same way Michael Bay punched our soul by making those two terrible movies. Check out the official Xbox.com page for a listing of Gamertags to friend request for the event.

Only those who rose (sigh) up to Microsoft's annual $50 multiplayer fee will find themselves in the online company of Megan Fox next week, when she plays Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen exclusively against Xbox Live Gold subscribers. The actress, self-outed Wii fan and professional runner-from-explosions will expect you to promptly log in by 5:30PM ET on Saturday, August 29 -- the session kicks off at 6PM sharp! In the meantime, you'll want to send a friend request to the following very real Gamertag: Megan Fox 2009. Please, don't be upset if you don't hear back right away. She probably needs to trim her friends list a bit to make room for you.

On August 27, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will receive a map and character combo DLC pack, which includes first generation models of some of your favorite Autobots and Decepticons. The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Character and Map Pack Plus DLC includes eight brand-new playable characters, three new character skins, three multiplayer maps and an "Expert" difficulty setting for the game's single-player campaign. The DLC -- which also adds new achievements and trophies to the game -- will be available for 800 on the Xbox Live Marketplace and $9.99 on the PlayStation Store. If only the pack added Weird Al Yankovic's "Dare to be Stupid" to the game's soundtrack, it truly would be an old school content pack. A detailed list of the DLC can be found after the break.%Gallery-69306%

Don't fret, Michael Bay haters, you can get your childhood Transformers back -- for a price. It's already been announced that G1 Starscream is coming to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (the game; it's too late for the movie) as DLC, and now we know of two more incoming pay-to-play characters: G1 Optimus Prime and Soundwave. (Oh, but not G1 Soundwave, although we think this one looks reasonably cool.)At least it'll be be cheaper than buying these guys, right? • UK chart get: Harry Potter and the EA Games of Popularity

EA has dominated the UK charts once again, as the publisher saw three of its titles grace the top five spots in the All Formats category last week. Chart-Track data shows that the one-two punch of a new Harry Potter movie in cinemas and a new game on store shelves was too potent a potion for UK customers to ignore, with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince shooting to the top spot.Harry and his Gryffindor chums were joined by Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, which dropped from the second spot all the way to third, and Fight Night Round 4, a previous top spotter that has plummeted to fifth place. Rounding out the remainder of the top five were Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which rested comfortably in second, and Wii Fit, which has dropped down to fourth.

If you're among those who've explored every musty nook 'n' cranny of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and were left slavering for more, you're imaginary. But you're also the target demo for a batch of ROTF DLC coming to PS3 and 360 later this summer that adds ten new multiplayer characters (like G1 Starscream), three new multiplayer maps and an Expert difficulty mode.... People who own ROTF and might be reluctantly conned into getting the DLC just for G1 Starscream? See, that's a demographic that might actually exist.

Tiger Woods Pro Tour 10 and Fight Night Round 4 dominated UK sales charts for the second week in a row (albeit in a different order), taking first and second place, respectively. In total, Electronic Arts software accounted for four of the top 10 titles for the week ending July 11, according to Chart Track.Top 10 chart mainstay Wii Fit fell to number six, while Ubisoft's Western-themed Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood climbed ahead to number five. Activision Blizzard also scored big with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (#3), Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (#9) and Prototype (#10) in the platform-combined top 10 list. With Transformers sneaking into the third spot, we're content to find out that, for all the cred British people get for being classy, they still make as many terrible decisions as North Americans. Cool, innit?

  • Oh no! Megan Fox is totally into the Wii

    06.24.2009

It seems as though there are dissenting voices coming from the cast of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen regarding Nintendo's Wii console. Why, just the other day, Shia LaBeouf expressed to the world his discontent with the system and those employing it for gaming -- that group of people apparently including his cast mate, Megan Fox. In an interview with WhatTheyPlay.com, Fox said, "I'm totally a fan of the Wii, I'm just not good at it." As LaBeouf (S. Beef to us) noted in his interview with Joystiq sister site Big Download, the two were playing LEGO Star Wars most recently, though Fox has some rather specific complaints about the game, telling the interviewer, "One thing I don't like about that game is that if one person is lagging behind and wants to check something out, and you're running ahead, you drag the screen with you -- you can't stay separate when you're playing on a team together ... that becomes annoying." Point taken! Apparently the lady knows her games, eh? Care for a guest column, Ms. Fox?

  • OMG: Shia LaBeouf totally 'not into' the Wii

    by

    06.23.2009

During an interview with Big Download last week, the young side of beef Shia LaBeouf (see what we did there?) took time from his busy career playing Indiana Jones' son to troll the Nintendo Wii as hard (and unnecessarily) as so many Joystiq comments we've read in the past. "I don't mess with the Wii, to be honest with you ... It's kind of an amateur console ... I'm not into the Wii thing," he told BD, when asked about the Wii version of upcoming movie tie-in game, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Truth be told, the actor tries to disassociate himself with those who own Wii consoles, continuing, "This is how in a simple way you can find out if it's a gamer you want to play with: Ask them if they have a Wii -- if they say yes, get the f*** out of there." Harsh words, Mr. LaBeouf! While we're inclined to start flapping our gums about the actor's films being defilements of our childhoods and how they placate to a more mainstream crowd -- like a certain console he feels so vehemently about -- we'll just hold our tongues on that. This time, LaBeouf. This time.

It's hard to take developers at face value when they're sitting around talking about how cool their game is, but in this case we have the first-hand knowledge to agree. While Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen might not be "more faster-paced" than other multiplayer games, it's a heck of a lot of fun. More fun than the single player, in fact.Check out the video above for a sneak peek at the multiplayer action in the upcoming title, and imagine what the insurance bill has to be like in that city.

Remember the last Transformers game? The one that was so painfully bad it made you want to smash your controllers to bits and turn to a life of reading books? Developer Luxoflux sure remembers, and that's why it set out to make the game based on the upcoming movie, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, a lot better. Thankfully, it had a clearly outlined example of what not to do courtesy of Traveller's Tales. Read on after the break, and find out why this might be ready for Optimus Prime-time.%Gallery-64284%

Set aside your beef with Shia for just a minute -- you'll want to watch this trailer for Activision's upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Why? Well, we can understand your hesitation given the quality -- or lack thereof -- of the first movie's game, but this one ... it actually looks good.Maybe it's the fact that, as we mentioned in our first impressions of the game, Vigilante 8 dev Luxoflux -- who knows a thing or two about vehicular combat -- is at the helm. It could also be how gosh darn fast these big metal guys go from vehicle to 'bot and back again. Of course, there's always the "Giant Robot Game Rule." Y'know, the one that states every game with giant robots looks awesome in trailers. As for the finished product, well, that's the great unknown in this case. Hopefully Luxoflux has the touch.

Activision released new assets for the upcoming Wii and DS adaptations of the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen movie. If the last movie is any indication, these games will be your best shot at actually seeing some Transformers instead of just Shia LeBeouf with a talking car.Revenge of the Fallen on DS, like the last DS Transformers game, is divided into Autobot and Decepticon versions, both of which are developed by Vicarious Visions. The last Wii game was developed by Traveller's Tales, but the new one is being made by Krome Studios and appears to be much more of a brawler than the somewhat sandbox-style Transformers: The Game. At least, we hope it's as brawl-y as it looks. What could be better than huge robots just beating each other up?%Gallery-50047%%Gallery-50048%
