For the latest edition of XBLA in Brief -- where we take a look at the trial versions of the latest Xbox Live Arcade games -- we're doing something a little different. Rather than type up a long summary of a three minute trial game, we've put together a video that highlights everything you need to know. Please, enjoy our look at Triggerheart Exelica, and tell us what you think of us using video for XBLA in Brief. This video is also our latest episode of X3F TV, and subscribers to the 360 Fancast will receive it via their aggregator of choice. The M4V is also available for download right here. The high resolution streaming version can be found by clicking the "read" link.

The latest Xbox Live Arcade release is now available in the form of Triggerheart Exelica. We haven't performed a thorough search, but we're fairly certain that Triggerheart Exelica has the most nonsensical and least descriptive name on the download service. It may interest you to know that it's a vertically scrolling shooter of the old-school variety. It features little bitty anime characters blasting away at little bitty planes and tanks as well as humongous bosses. Also worth noting, the actual game only takes up about 1/3 of the screen. Our condolences to those with small televisions. The full version is available for 800 points.

Most of you readers probably already know what's coming to the XBLA this week, but just in case some of you aren't weekend readers, we figured we should remind you that this week's XBLA release is an exceedingly odd shooter called Triggerheart Exelica. We also wanted to type Triggerheart Exelica again to confirm our suspicion that it was one of the dumbest names for a videogame of all time. Debate it all you like in the comments, but trust us on this one. It's bad. It's like ... Awesome Possum Kicks Dr. Machino's Butt bad.

Microsoft just confirmed this week's Xbox Live Arcade release and just as we foretold, it's the Japanese 2D side-scroller Triggerheart Exelica. Anime included.Releasing to the XBLA this Wednesday for a cool 800 Microsoft points is Triggerheart Exelica and its prettified HD graphics, updated musical score and some sort of interesting feature called a V.B.A.S. It's enough purple colored Japanese side-scrolling action to keep you satisfied for months and months to come. Triggerheart Exelica also promises to make your inner anime fanboy squeal with excitement. Though, we can't make a guarantee.%Gallery-16859%

  • Rumor: XBLA gets Triggerheart Exelica this week [update]

Editor's update: It appears we've already covered this particular story. Xbox 360 Fanboy apologizes for the error and the writer responsible has been placed in a burlap sack and beaten with reeds.IGN noticed that Japanese developer Warashi is confirming that their baby Triggerheart Exelica will be releasing to the Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday, February 27th. Their official website tells us that this 2D shooter will be 800 Microsoft points and should offer exactly what Triggerheart gave us on the Dreamcast. It also should make the Xbox 360 "dance beautifully" (inside Google translate joke). Again, Triggerheart Exelica isn't 100% confirmed for release this week as Microsoft will make that announcement in but a few hours. Though, we'd be willing to make $3 wager on this rumor being true ... we just have a feeling.[Via IGN]

  • Rez and Ikaruga confirmed for XBLA

Proving that the Tokyo Game Show is about more than just announcing Ninja Gaiden 2, several new (and notably Japanese) games have been announced for Xbox Live Arcade. First and foremost among these are Lumines creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Rez and Treasure's Ikaruga. While Ikaruga's appearance on XBLA shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who's been paying attention, Rez comes as a pretty big surprise. If you're not familiar with Rez, you're probably better off watching the video embedded after the break than having us attempt to explain it.Microsoft also touted several other games for XBLA including EXIT (previously announced), Every Extend Extra Extreme (ditto), Omega Five (impressions), and Triggerheart Exelica (a shooter apparently). Things are looking up for XBLA, no?

If you missed out on our liveblog of Microsoft's pre-TGS conference in Japan (it does, after all, require an excessive and strenuous amount of scrolling to access), you may appreciate and respond with delirious joy to some of the pertinent news to emerge from it. You should also appreciate the amount of effort that went into the preceding and vaguely professional sentence -- we really just wanted to blurt out that REZ ON XBLA YAY. Ahem. Microsoft confirmed that Tetsuya Mizuguchi's melodic shooter will soon make you hear everything you see and see everything you hear on Xbox Live Arcade. Other things you'll see are waves of hypnotic bullets (Ikaruga), saviors adorned with fine hats (EXIT), pulsating geometric shapes (Every Extend Extra Extreme), flying robots (Omega Five) and... er, some sort of Japanese car (Triggerheart Exelica)? No release dates have been announced for any of the games, though we suspect none of them are likely to come soon enough.
