Samsung kicks out new Blue Wave firmware updates for the YP-P2 PMP faster than we can keep up with 'em, but we've honestly never even seen in the wild. Still, we'll give Sammy credit for releasing free feature updates (cough), and Blue Wave 4 delivers basically what we'd heard about a couple months back: voice recording, Bluetooth gaming, subway maps, a skinnable GUI, password lock and text-to-speech support. Available for download now, if you've actually got a P2.[Via PMP Today]

When we asked you to list the things you'd change about Samsung's YP-P2, a number of you yearned for mobile TV. Granted, you'd have to set up shop in South Korea for your dream to be fully fulfilled, but Samsung's definitely making it possible. The YP-P2 DMB will arrive packing an obligatory T-DMB mobile TV tuner for youngsters and hipsters alike to find their favorite program when those hundreds of albums grow stale. We're hearing that the unit will feature a 3-inch touchscreen along with Bluetooth 2.0 and your choice of black or white motifs. Price wise, you'll be laying down ???239,000 ($231), ???309,000 ($299) or ???389,000 ($377) for the 4GB, 8GB or 16GB version.

Not even a month after we asked you fine readers what you'd love to change about the YP-P2, in comes early word that a tweaked successor could be on the way. Granted, most everything here is lost in translation, but we're gathering that Samsung could be readying a touchscreen YP-P3 that would look awfully similar to the SCH-W420 mobile. Good thing, too, as that particular unit has haptic support (force feedback from touch panels, in a nutshell) already loaded in. So convenient, wouldn't you agree? Keep a loose eye out for this one to surface late this year.[Via PMPToday]

Considering that Samsung's YP-P2 just might be the most updated PMP of all time, we're guessing that a lot of things that users would have changed just months ago have already been done by the powers that be. That being said, we critical gadget owners are never truly satisfied at heart, so we're curious to know how you'd spin the forthcoming firmware update(s). Or would you focus your attention on external matters, instead? We know you've had ample time to fool around with one of Sammy's most prized media players ever, so don't be shy down there in comments, alright? Who knows -- your recommendations could be front and center in the next Blue Wave.

  • Blue Wave 3 firmware update for Samsung P2 heads out of beta

It's already hit Korea, but it looks like those of us that don't live in the land of Samsung can now finally get our hands on the official, non beta Blue Wave 3 firmware update for the company's fan-favorite YP-P2 PMP as well. Otherwise known as version 4.13, the update brings a whole host of improvements, including a decent batch of new GUI themes, a new fullscreen playback mode, a calculator, and some additional brightness and speed controls for video playback, among other things. Of course, as Samsung is wont to do, it's already teasing us with its Blue Wave 4 update, which promises to take the player to even greater heights with customizable skins, Bluetooth-based games, subway maps, and voice recording, to name just a few improvements. No word on a release for that just yet, however, so in the meantime you'll have to make do with the next best thing available at the link below.[Thanks, Xepol]

  • Samsung set to release YP-PB2 PMP in Korea

Samsung's done pretty well for itself with its YP-P2 PMP, and it now looks to be set to bust out yet another upgrade to the player, although you likely won't be seeing this one outside of Korea. Helping to keep it close to Samsung's home base is the addition of not only a DAB radio tuner but, apparently, a DVB-T mobile TV tuner as well. Other than those two notable additions, however, the device appears to be unchanged from its previous incarnation, with it boasting the same 3-inch WQVGA display, built-in Bluetooth, black or white color options, and 2GB, 4GB, or 8GB capacity as before (no word on a 16GB model). There's also no word on a price or release date, but you can pretty safely expect to pay a tidy premium over the tuner-less models.

Samsung just launched the Blue Wave 3 firmware for the YP-P2 and T10 today, but we're already hearing whispers of Blue Wave 4 -- check out this image that's popped up on some forums. Apparently all you P2 owners out there can look forward to customizable (and shareable) UI skins, some new Bluetooth-based games, subway maps, custom EQ settings, password controls, and voice recording sometime in the future, but we have no idea when. Until then, feast your eyes on the whole image after the break.

  • Samsung lets loose Blue Wave 3 firmware update for P2, T10 PMPs

Samsung's first two "Blue Wave" firmware updates for its P2 and T10 PMPs came in relatively quick succession, but it's taken a bit longer for the third one to make its way out the door. Those in Korea can now give their players another boost, however, with the new Blue Wave 3 update apparently available for the taking. On the P2, that'll give you four new GUI themes, along with a new full screen mode, a calculator and dictionary, and new brightness and speed controls for video playback. The T10, on the other hand, will get a full ten new themes, along with three new games, a video bookmarking feature, horizontal viewing and AAC support, and the ability to delete files on the device itself. No word on a similar release 'round these parts just yet, but we wouldn't expect it to be too long in coming.[Via PMP Today]

  • 16GB Samsung P2 now available from Best Buy Canada

You may still not be able to get an iPhone in Canada (at least officially), but you can now at least grab a spiffy new 16GB Samsung YP-P2, which is a whole 8GB bigger than the model currently available in the US. From the looks of it, Best Buy Canada is the among the first to offer the beefed-up, Bluetooth-packin' PMP, with it currently demanding $330 Canadian (a $40 discount off the $370 list price) on the retailer's website. Apart from the bump in storage, however, there doesn't look to be any other changes to the player, with it boasting the same 3-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth 2.0 support, and H.264, OGG, and WMV playback as before. Of course, it's not very likely this'll be a Canadian exclusive for long, though we've still yet to hear anything official on that from Samsung.

Samsung fans, your wildest dreams have come to fruition. Word on the street is that the company's do-it-all PMP, the YP-P2, will be getting an update in the form of a new 16GB model. The new player -- which boasts features like a 3-inch WQVGA screen, Bluetooth 2.0 support, and H.264, OGG, and WMV playback -- will cost somewhere in the vicinity of $347. There's no word on a street date or price for US or European markets, but when we know something, you'll know something.[Via PMP Today]

We don't want to get too granular on these firmware updates, but it looks like another YP-P2 re-up has imbued the device with some interesting new features. Apparently, version 3.15 adds three new games to your device, the ability to record FM radio as an MP3, new repeat functions, control over the speed of music playback (which we think is totally boss), and EmoTure 1.5, which has a handful of improved features (or so we're told). The whole shebang is available right now for your downloading pleasure... so go grab it.[Thanks, Evan]

Firmware version 3.07 just went live over at Samsung's download center. This is the 2nd firmware update for Sammy's slick little P2. Word on the street has it delivering on the promises already peeped in the video preview. Just be sure that you're downloading the newest version as Sammy's site seems to have cross-linked v3.07 with the older v2.08 download. Nevertheless, between this and the PSP 3.90 M33 release, our weekend is pretty much set.DownloadAlternative download links[Via 4th Dimension Thinking, thanks Oscar M.]

It's not like we haven't seen PMPs certified for Vongo before, but considering just how sexy the P2 really is, we think the aforementioned video provider did itself a favor by teaming up with Samsung. As of today, P2 owners can surf on over to Vongo's website and begin using the subscription-based service for $9.99 per month, and for P2 owners to-be, you can look forward to a "trial membership" with an unspecified length. Huzzah!

  • Samsung readying YS-MC1 dock for YP-P2?

    12.10.2007

Chalk this one up as a yet-to-be substantiated rumor, but based on an interesting video clip surfacing on YouTube (we know...), Samsung's YP-P2 could be getting a swank new peripheral. The YS-MC1 cradle would apparently snap onto the bottom of the already svelte P2 and add 802.11g WiFi, an FM transmitter, microSD expansion slot and a built-in mono speaker. 'Course, we realize just how fake the concepts on the video look, but it's not like Samsung hasn't doled out specialized docks for its DAPs in the past. And hey, we're all still wondering what may go along with the multiple waves of firmware updates slated to land next year. Click on through to see the video yourself.[Via DAPReview, thanks KC Kim]

    10.25.2007

It looks like Samsung's snazzy YP-P2 just became even more attractive, as folks still on the fence (and even those that aren't) can reportedly look forward to a number of upcoming firmware updates that promise to add even more functionality. Apparently, the P2 will be hit with an update this December that enables a Bluetooth connection to one's mobile phone, BT file exchanges and the addition of an e-dictionary (saywha?). In late January of 2008, you can expect an upgraded Touch UI along with FM recording / playback. The elusive "Third Wave" update is set to land next March, but as you can tell from the photo to the right, Sammy's just lettin' your imagination run wild with this one. Check out the full spread after the jump.[Via YeppYepp]

Everyone loves observing their favorite gadgets splayed across a table in pieces, chipsets and radios fully exposed for the world to see, but nothing quite beats the delicious build-up and eventual pay-off of a tear-down captured on video. And with hot little devices like Samsung's 8GB, Bluetooth 2.0-equipped YP-P2 and YP-T10 DAPs, the time-honored dissection ritual seems particularly suited to filming. Thanks to Korean YEPP fan LikEraser, you can watch it all go down after the break, and even catch a full description of the individual parts by clicking on the Read link. Warning: those who value their hearing / sanity will mute the embedded videos and substitute a favorite tune instead. [Via YeppYepp]

    10.05.2007

Although we were previously led to believe that Samsung's YP-P2 and YP-T10 Bluetooth players would be landing in the US last month, the ship date seems to have slipped just a bit. A revised release from Sammy (shown after the break) now shows both units being available here in America sometime in October, and more importantly, prices were also divulged. As for the P2, it'll be available in black, wine red or white hues for $199 (4GB) and $249 (8GB), while the T10 will ship in midnight black, mystic purple, maple red, white cloud and lime yellow for $149 (4GB) and $199 (8GB). Hold tight, the duo should (finally) be landing anytime.

Just days after hitting Amazon, Samsung's YP-P2 is getting a proper unboxing. We're sure you're up to speed on the device being discussed, so we'll cut ya loose so you can enjoy the pictures, cool?[Thanks, Ilia I.]

We know you can't wait to get your sweaty, smearing mitts all over Samsung's little YP-P2, AKA the "palm theater" (the company's words, not ours). Well, it looks like you won't have to wait much longer, as the eighth wonder of the media player world has just made an appearance on Amazon.com, with an option to put the 8GB, widescreen, touch sensitive, Bluetooth equipped iPod-challenger in your cart and do some serious checking out (provided you have an extra $249.99 laying around). Now, don't go spilling your beverage on yourself rushing over to the site, because even though you can pay for the thing, Amazon is still listing the player as "In stock soon," so while you'll be able to impress friends and family members with the news of your purchase, you won't actually be able to show it to them.

We got our grubby mitts all over Samsung's new YP-P2 "palm theater" at IFA, and we'd thought we'd share all the widescreen havin', movie playin', music listenin' action with you. The player is extremely light and thin, but still feels pretty substantial in your hand (it's not tiny). The screen isn't quite as clear as something like the iPhone, though it definitely holds its own. The UI is clean and ultra simple, sporting easy-on-the-eyes lists for most sections, and a familiar icon grid for your main apps. The touch screen response was extra-lively, even for our gigantic paws. Check the gallery for more photos than you can shake a stick at. No... seriously, you can't shake a stick at them.%Gallery-6643%
