Not to be outdone by Magic: The Gathering, Hearthstone or its lifelong animated rival Pokemon, Konami's Yu-Gi-Oh collectible card game will soon spawn a virtual adaptation on both iOS and Android devices. Dubbed Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Generation, the game is described by Konami as "a free and perfect replica" of the analog Yu-Gi-Oh card game. While not exactly "free" - TouchArcade notes the existence of premium cards available through in-app purchases - the game will boast 6,000 cards at launch, with more on the way as regular downloadable content. Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Generation also features both on- and offline gameplay with a full singleplayer campaign and AI controlled opponents available for custom battles at any time. Konami has yet to nail down a specific launch date for Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Generation, but claims the game's iOS incarnation should arrive later this month. It's Android counterpart will follow "shortly after that." [Image: Konami]

Konami has announced that Yu-Gi-Oh! Decade Duels is coming to Xbox Live Arcade in Spring 2010 and will feature "the most robust card offering and the opportunity to purchase additional card packs through Xbox Live." There's no word on price right now for the initial game, so we've contacted Konami. We'll let you know what we hear back. %Gallery-90104%

  • Like a mean cousin, Upper Deck steals Konami's Yu-Gi-Oh! cards

Konami announced yesterday that Upper Deck had been forced to settle with the company after allegedly printing hundreds of thousands of faked Yu-Gi-Oh! cards in China and bringing them stateside. On any other day, this news would just be kind of funny, but it's elevated by attorney for Upper Deck Richard Howell who said "At this point, Upper Deck doesn't have a lot of Life Points. We're talking about behavior that, from a defense attorney's standpoint, I can't defend and I am not going to defend. I'm here defending a counterfeiter. And now I have to deal with that issue." That's right: Life Points. Dude learned enough about Yu-Gi-Oh! to drop Yu-Gi-Oh! references. Man, that's the kind of lawyer you want to have. ... Unless, we guess, you're Upper Deck, in which case, it seems like you probably could have chosen a guy that didn't tell people how guilty you were.

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today. Oh ho, what is this? Another edition of The Queue, approximately one day after the one before it? How unexpected! Who knew that daily features could be so... daily? I, for one, am shocked. And perhaps a little appalled. Tori asked... "What do you think will happen with the Undead after the Lich King is defeated? I realize for gameplay purposes they won't suddenly disappear from the Horde, but from a lore view Sylvanas' entire grudge against Arthas was most of the reason for using the Horde as a means to her end. Plus after all the Wrath Gate drama... it just seems as though the Forsaken should almost be their own faction or something."

  • KingsIsle's Todd Coleman on Wizard101: Finding the middle ground

How do you go from the hardcore hacking and slashing impact-PvP of Shadowbane to a turn-based card combat MMO featuring cow samurais named Sam-moorai? How does one create an experience that is more grown up than Club Penguin but more kid-friendly than Barrens chat? What do you get when you take Harry Potter, Yu-Gi-Oh, and early Final Fantasy and then mix them in a blender? The MMO Gamer asks these questions and more in an interview with Wizard101 Director, J. Todd Coleman; the man who conceptualized the original idea for the game on a note pad. The interview sheds light on how Wizard101 came to be, the free-to-play model, and potential directions the game may take in the future (e.g., player housing).Todd also tells us that reports of the game surpassing 1,000,000 players are outdated and that KingsIsle will be making an announcement soon to highlight their exponential growth since releasing six months ago. He claims that Wizard101 wouldn't have had nearly this much success if it was a $50 retail purchase and $15 per month subscription. About subscription-based MMOs he says, "...you're fighting a war of attrition the entire time. FTP is not like that, at least it hasn't been for us."

It is with some regret that we note the passing of a notable, veteran Second Life user, the vivacious and witty Kendra Bancroft, better known in some circles as popular children's television and video-game English voice actress, Madeleine Blaustein. Maddie joined Second Life in June 2004 and under the name Kendra Bancroft was a long time friend and compatriot of the well-known (if slightly infamous) Ulrika Zugzwang. She participated in Second Life politics, experimental democracy, protests, parties and virtual construction. Maddie also gave unique voice to a variety of well-known cartoon, anime and video-game characters, such as Pokemon's Meowth, and Sartorius from Yi-Gi-Oh GX. She was, however, perhaps most notable for her building, vivacious wit, and her loyalty to her friends. Maddie died in her sleep on 11 December, after a brief (but unspecified) illness at the age of 48. Are you a part of the most widely-known collaborative virtual environment or keeping a close eye on it? Massively's Second Life coverage keeps you in the loop.

Although the last two games of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force series were released in the US (in fact, the second game was released a week earlier in the US), it looks like Konami will not be bringing Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3 stateside. Some of you might think this isn't a big deal, but a quick glance over at GameFAQs shows that one of the top ten forums for a PSP game is Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 2. No reason was given why the series has been discontinued on our shores, but those of you who wish to check out the game will have to start importing.

Surprise, surprise?Anime games get a lot of traction on PSP, and Konami's not afraid to milk them for all they're worth. Yet another Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force game has been announced for Sony's handheld -- the third in three years. While many of you may not follow the series, it's clearly popular enough amongst PSP fans that Konami keeps on coming back for more. And at least it's only one per year -- let's not forget how prolific Sony's Bleach Heat the Soul games are.

  • PS2 vs. PSP online play, care of Yu-Gi-Oh

PlayStation 2 owners looking to take on their portable siblings can now do so with online battles of the new Yu-Gi-Oh! game, The Beginning of Destiny. According to the press release (via PSP Fanboy), the PS2 and PSP titles can do battle and, akin to other card battle titles, collect cards from cross-platform opponents otherwise unavailable in your version.Sure, the PS2 is a last-gen console, but still one that sold almost 4 million units last year. We're hoping to see more cross-platform play between the two consoles.

Don't you wish you were able to give a PS2 owner a virtual smackdown? Dreams of cross-platform multiplayer have rarely come to fruition, but Konami's giving it a shot with their upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! game. The Beginning of Destiny, which is available in stores now, has an intriguing feature we haven't seen before in a PS2 game: it has the ability to actually connect with and battle against a PSP game.Yu-Gi-Oh! GX The Beginning of Destiny includes more than 2,400 cards allowing for new decks and dueling strategies. Players can also connect online to duelists playing Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 2 on the PSP to battle more characters and collect more cards. It reminds us a little of Pokemon.Hopefully, this won't be the only time we hear of such a feature. Wouldn't it be great if PSP owners could go head to head against other PS2 and PS3 owners? Imagine playing MLB, and having a pitch thrown on a PS3, while a batter on a PSP somewhere else in the world is able to take a swing. The online world of PSP would open up so much if Sony wanted it to ...[Via press release]

1UP has again braved the bands of manga-fiending young'ns to investigate the happenings at this year's Jump Festa jumpoff. While all major Japanese publishers (and Microsoft) were present, Square Enix was reppin' in full force, offering playable versions of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (PSP), and Seiken Densetsu: Heroes of Mana and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates (both for DS). Trailers for additional titles were also on display (see embedded videos below). In a private theater, Square Enix previewed more new footage from its upcoming 2007 lineup, including a glimpse at Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3). The montage concluded with a brief flash of an armored man, grimacing as he stood on what appeared to be a battlefield. The teaser shot was followed by the words: "And something new coming in 2007."
