If you've been wondering about companies in Pathfinder Online, today's dev blog is for you. And no, that's not companies as in GoblinWorks or Paizo, but companies as in adventuring companies! Designer Tork Shaw says that companies are the "most basic form of permanent player organization" in the game. If that sounds a lot like "guilds" in other MMOs, that's intentional, though Shaw explains that Pathfinder's companies work best with 50 or fewer members as opposed to giant, hundred-member zergs. Companies can be sponsored by certain in-game settlements, which affords them bonuses, protection, and perhaps danger if said settlements are engaged in hostilities with other in-game groups. Companies advance via an influence mechanic that stems from the deeds of their members. Click through the links below for more info!

  • Safecracker to open on Wii this fall

It'll come as no surprise to fans that the Wii has sort of a dual nature. On the one hand, it's a platform for some of the most imaginative, creative titles to be released on consoles, but, on the other, it's the Statue of Liberty for ports, accepting the tired, the poor and all of the huddled masses freely. This fall, Lady Wiiberty will open her arms once more for Safecracker, a port of the 2006 PC puzzle adventure. But this is no mere straight port, there are significant changes from its PC counterpart. For example, at $29.99, it will be $20 more expensive than on Steam. Also ... nope, actually that's it.

  • Keepsake's unforgettable adventure

The Adventure Company's Keepsake shipped a few weeks ago, but has remained in the long shadow cast by recent genre darling, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. As of this writing, the major trade press hasn't even bothered to review Keepsake. The sign of a bad game? Not in this case. It's more a symptom of the industry's tendency to focus on the myriad shooters, RPGs, and strategy titles that dominate PC gaming.Developed by Wicked Studios, Keepsake has been described as a cross between the Myst series and Benoit Sokal's excellent Syberia games. As an aspiring student of the mystic arts, you're charged with finding out what happened at the deserted Dragonvale Academy, and you have only a talking wolf and a series of magical clues to assist you. The game's visuals are astounding, and the publisher even hired new voice talent to replace the original actors, following beta feedback.Fans of the genre should check out the in-depth reviews of Keepsake at Just Adventure and Adventure Gamers.
