Apple doubles the storage of the iPhone SE and iPad Mini 4

The new, limited-edition red iPhone 7/7 Plus and upgraded 9.7-inch iPad aren't the only things Apple has to share today. The company is also increasing the storage across all iPhone SE and iPad Mini 4 configurations. The lowest-capacity 4-inch iPhone SE is now 32GB, up from 16GB, and the 64GB model has been scrapped in favor of a 128GB version. Basically, Apple has doubled the storage and finally killed off the last 16GB iPhone, but good news: The prices haven't changed. The new 32GB iPhone SE costs $399/£379 (the same price as the old 16GB device), while the 128GB model comes in at $499/£479. Both will go on sale this Friday, March 24th.

No, it's not the most exciting iPhone release, but the new SE still has a clear purpose: At $399, it's Apple's most affordable handset yet. Meanwhile, its 4-inch screen is likely to appeal to nostalgics who miss smaller iPhones. Indeed, the SE is nigh-indistinguishable from the three-year-old 5s, save for a Rose Gold color option and some minor differences in the finish. At the same time, though it looks like a phone from 2013, its internals are mostly on par with the 6s, which only came out last fall. The only things you'll be giving up are the 6s' superior front-facing camera and faster Touch ID sensor. Then again, you do get longer battery life in exchange, so there's that to consider. All told, then, the SE is a great deal for the money, and deserves its strong score of 89.

The iPhone 5s is starting to show a few grey hairs, but Apple's keeping the 4-inch form factor alive with the iPhone SE. Essentially an iPhone 6s massaged into a smaller, thicker frame, the iPhone SE went on sale last week -- though if you haven't taken the plunge already, maybe you won't have to. Thanks to our friends at Mobilefun.co.uk, we've got an iPhone SE (Space Gray, 16GB model) to send the way of one lucky reader this week. And being something of an accessory specialist, the retailer has also thrown in no less than five covers and cases to compliment the winner's new handset. As always, entries are handled by the Rafflecopter widget below, but please gives the rules a quick read first to ensure you're eligible to participate.

Where to buy Apple's iPhone SE in the UK

"Let the 4-inch form factor not perish with the aging 5s," bellowed Apple; and thus, the iPhone SE came to be. Apple's latest handset, aimed at smaller paws and skinny jeans, is a curious blend of old and new. That's true of the design, at least, but inside you're effectively looking at an iPhone 6s, the only major difference being the lack of 3D Touch. And as you may have guessed, the little power puncher goes on sale today. But where, and for how much?

Even though we all knew it was coming, Apple's iPhone SE announcement still managed to raise eyebrows ... and plenty of questions. Is there still a market for a 4-inch iPhone? Is Apple playing it safe with its design? Arguably, the answer to both these questions is yes, but after a week of using the iPhone SE, I can safely say that none of that matters. Regardless of Apple's reasons for making this thing, the iPhone SE is a lovely smartphone for iOS newcomers and small-handed users alike.
