Ubisoft will bundle up three games in the Assassin's Creed series for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC for October. Dubbed Assassin's Creed: The Americas Collection in North America and Assassin's Creed Birth of a New World - The American Saga in Europe, the bundle combines three games that are set in the western world: Assassin's Creed 3, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed Liberation HD. The bundle will launch on October 3 in Europe and October 28 in North America. Two more games in the series will arrive just weeks later on November 11, as well. Assassin's Creed Rogue will arrive at that time for Xbox 360 and PS3 and Assassin's Creed Unity will launch for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The Americas Collection makes for a nice setup to Rogue, which Ubisoft said will bridge the gap between Assassin's Creed 3 and 4, explaining the game's lack of availability on next-gen consoles. Ubisoft did not provide a price for the bundle. [Image: Ubisoft]

  • Deja Review: Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD

This is a Deja Review: A quick, unscored look at the new features and relative agelessness of a remade, revived or re-released game. When Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation first debuted on the Vita in 2012, it promised a wholly original viewpoint on the eternal war between Assassins and Templars. The game's protagonist, Aveline de Grandpré, remains the only woman to lead an Assassin's Creed game, and beyond that she's of French and African descent. Given the 18th century setting, the game's protagonist alone should have offered the developers at Ubisoft Sofia myriad plot threads to explore, but Liberation seemed more concerned with debuting gimmicky new gameplay options and was quickly overshadowed by Assassin's Creed 3. Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD attempts to mate the experimental gameplay ideas of the formerly Vita-exclusive adventure with aesthetics more suitable for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, while also streamlining the game's missions and improving its controls. This attempt is mostly successful, but if you're paying attention it's pretty clear that Ubisoft's efforts were less "total overhaul" and more "clever spit shine."

  • Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD out on PSN today

Today marks the PlayStation 3 debut of Ubisoft's high-definition retread of Assassin's Creed: Liberation. As with its original Vita incarnation, Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD follows the adventures of Aveline de Grandpré, a female assassin operating in New Orleans in the aftermath of the French and Indian War. Like all Assassin's Creed entries, the game focuses on stealth, parkour-esque acrobatics and stabbing jerks in the spine, neck, face and whatever other body parts are within dagger-range. The biggest addition found in this entry is a new costume system that allows Aveline to alter her style of dress to pass unnoticed in certain echelons of 18th century society. New to this latest release are enhanced, high-definition graphics, improved audio, new missions and the addition of "Aveline's trademark whip," which is useful both in combat and when attempting to swing across gaps too large to jump. Today's PlayStation 3 release of Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD will be followed by PC and Xbox 360 versions tomorrow.

Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Liberation HD will hit the PlayStation Network on January 14, the publisher revealed today at Sony's PlayStation Blog. An upgraded version of a formerly PS Vita-exclusive spinoff in the Assassin's Creed series, Liberation tracks the bloody exploits of Aveline de Grandpré, a female assassin who stalks 18th-century New Orleans. Ubisoft notes that it has reworked Liberation extensively with regard to pacing, and the upgraded HD release will include 15 new missions that flesh out Aveline's varied personas. Assassin's Creed Liberation HD will be priced at $19.99. A release for Xbox Live Arcade is also in the works, and a PC version will hit Steam on January 15.

PlayStation Vita game Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation is coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC as Assassin's Creed Liberation HD. The download-only release will not only benefit from updated graphics, but new missions and other enhancements as well. An extensive Q&A from Ubisoft, available past the break, sums the improvements made to Liberation HD, touching on the new tutorial system, new combat (protagonist Aveline can dual-wield weapons now), polished free-running and improved facial animations and cutscenes. In addition to this, each mission has been "reworked" to provide better "pacing and challenge" for players. "And one more thing; we have worked heavily to improve the frame rate. The game will be smooth," says producer Momchil Valentinov Gindyanov. AI and crowd behavior will also behave like Assassin's Creed Liberation HD's console brethren. "Using the AnvilNext engine and existing Assassin's Creed technology has really allowed us to push the crowd and AI behaviour," Gindyanov writes. "Liberation features all the crowd behaviour you've come to expect from an Assassin's Creed game, tailored to our own specific locations, so you can expect to see all sorts of activities unique to New Orleans, including Mardi Gras!" Assassin's Creed Liberation HD is due on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC from developer Ubisoft Sofia. Neither timetable nor price has been announced.
