Confirming a rumor from earlier this week, developer DICE has announced that the Second Assault DLC for large-scale military shooter Battlefield 4 will debut on February 18. "In a week, you'll take a step back in time with Battlefield 4 Second Assault, featuring four fan-favorite maps from Battlefield 3 – Operation Metro, Caspian Border, Gulf of Oman, and Operation Firestorm," a DICE representative wrote on the official Battlefield 4 blog. "Reimagined with Frostbite 3 graphics and Battlefield 4 gameplay, Battlefield 4 Second Assault will be released on February 18 for Battlefield 4 Premium members on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, and for all Battlefield 4 players two weeks later on March 4." As Second Assault has been available to Xbox One users since Battlefield 4 launched on that console, there isn't anything left to reveal about the DLC. Instead, the remainder of today's announcement is focused on the game's next addition, dubbed Naval Strike. "In this expansion, you'll experience intense water-based combat as the Chinese armada takes the fight to the sea. You'll have access to new weapons, gadgets, and amphibious vehicles, and four all-new maps – Lost Island, Nansha Strike, Wave Breaker, and Operation Mortar." DICE has yet to reveal a release date for Naval Strike. [Image: EA]

Battlefield 4's "Second Assault" map pack, a collection of Battlefield 3 maps that have been updated for DICE's latest, will take players back to Caspian Border, Operation Metro, Operation Firestorm and Gulf of Oman. EA confirmed the four maps in an email with Joystiq earlier today and even added each map will now incorporate a new "levelution" moment. "Second Assault" will be available first as a timed Xbox One on November 22, and will unlock on PS3, Xbox 360, PS4 and PC some time after. "Second Assault" is the second of five planned DLC packs as part of Battlefield 4 Premium. [Note: Image is of Caspian Border as seen in Battlefield 3]

EA will once again offer a Premium service alongside its latest Battlefield game. Battlefield 4 Premium offers five expansions on top of Battlefield 4, kicking off with the Second Assault DLC pack, available first on Xbox One when Battlefield 4 launches in October. Second Assault is a collection of four multiplayer maps from Battlefield 3, updated in Frostbite 3. China Rising, which takes place on the Chinese mainland, arrives next in December, followed by the ocean-based combat of Naval Strike in Spring 2014. The "all-out urban warfare" of Dragon's Teeth makes up the fourth pack, available next summer, and Final Stand brings it all to a close in Summer 2014. In addition to the DLC packs, Battlefield 4 Premium also guarantees access to the Battlefield 4 beta this October and "priority" position in server queues. Other means of beta access include pre-ordering the digital deluxe version of Battlefield 4 or getting in through limited edition and digital deluxe versions of Medal of Honor: Warfighter. There is no pricing listed in the original announcement, though the Battlefield site lists Battlefield 4 Premium for PC at a one-time fee of $50 – the same price as Battlefield 3 Premium.
