This week on the Japanese Wii Shop, the Virtual Console is host to two rare Konami sequels: Gofer's Ambition Episode 2, a Gradius game exclusive to the MSX platform, and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, the real Metal Gear sequel that we didn't see in North America until the limited edition release of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. Additionally, Marvelous's World Game Parade brings another game to WiiWare, this time, Bplus's Bit Boy!!, significantly reworked for its Japanese release. The full list of weekly releases follows: Gofer's Ambition Episode 2 (MSX, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points) Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (MSX, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) Bit Man!! Marvelous Entertainment, faced with low sales and financial trouble, is turning to a relatively low-cost source of new material to publish: Western WiiWare games. The publisher just started a new label, World Game Parade, to release localized Japanese versions of some WiiWare games originally developed and published outside of Japan. In March, World Game Parade will release Zombie in Wonderland (called Zombie Panic in Wonderland outside of Japan) and Bit Man!! (Bplus's Bit Boy!!). Katamuki Spirits (Equilibrio) and Rakugaki Hero (Max & the Magic Marker) will follow in April. WiiWare sales figures aren't normally released, so we may have to wait until Marvelous's next earnings report to determine the effectiveness of the plan. We can confirm right now that the logo is adorable. [Via Andriasang]

This week's biggest release is undoubtedly Bplus' Bit Boy!!, an odd title that pays homage to the various bits that make up gaming's past. Bit Boy!! runs the gamut from gaming's humble beginnings during the 4-bit era, all the way up to the last generation's 128-bit capabilities. The goal is to rescue Bit Boy Kubi's pals, who've been imprisoned across the various worlds.

Nintendo of Europe's Hanabi Festival returns, bringing with it, of course, import games! Fantastic stuff is available this week on Virtual Console: Pulseman, a Mega Man-style platformer from a pre-Pokemon Game Freak, and Ogre Battle, the legendary strategy title from Yasumi Matsuno's Quest. This week's awesomeness extends to WiiWare, with both Bplus's Bit Boy!!, the maze action game that shuffles between various levels of retro, and Gradius Rebirth, which settles at the 16-bit era. And on DSiWare, the Mario calculator and clock apps arrive. Roll your eyes all you want, but they're surprisingly delightful. Details after the break.Nintendo also announced Hanabi Festival titles you can expect in following weeks: Bomberman '94, Kirby's Dream Land 3, Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II, MUSHA, Detana!! Twinbee, and the NES Smash Table Tennis!

We're thrilled about the generation-traveling concept of Bplus's Bit Boy -- much more than we have been about any previous Bplus game, to be honest -- but we don't really know that much about it. Nintendo Life spoke to Bernd Geiblinger, art director at Bplus, and got a rundown of the maze game. "As Bit Boy!! is a very old-school, arcade-style action game," Geiblinger said, "your main aim is to get the ultimate high score by rescuing friends, eating fruit and defeating monsters that roam the levels." As the technological level progresses, the protagonist Kubi increases in complexity as well, gaining access to special attacks and a jump move that allows him to "jump onto objects to hide himself from enemies."Geiblinger also discusses some extra modes, as well as the chiptune-based sound design.

Bplus, developer of Plattchen - Twist 'n Paint, Niki -Rock 'n Ball, and the upcoming Vektor Tank, announced a new game that doesn't look so new. In fact, it looks delightfully old! Bit Boy!! follows a character called "Kubi" on an adventure that spans console generations, starting at 2600-style "4-bit" and progressively increasing in graphical complexity toward a modern 128-bit look. No real details about the gameplay have been given, other than that it uses either d-pad controls or a virtual Wiimote joystick, and that it features co-op play. But the concept alone has our attention!
