Apple updated iTunes with a new page that allows users to make a donation to City of Hope, a non-profit charity dedicated to combating cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. This initiative starts today and continues through October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Users will be able to make donations through their iTunes account in US$5, $10, $25, $50, $100, and $200 amounts. Apple will transfer 100 percent of the donated amount to the City of Hope charity. This initiative isn't' the first time Apple has used iTunes for charitable donations. The company accepted emergency relief funds for the Philippines typhoon in 2013, Hurricane Sandy in 2012, and the 2010 Haitian earthquake. [Via TechCrunch]

As October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, folks are probably seeing pink crop up all over the place in their daily lives. And now that color has landed in the gritty world of PlanetSide 2. A group of outfits on the Connery server has banded together to organize a 24-hour play-a-thon to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation to aid in its search for a cure. On October 26th, Genocidal Rampage (CASH), 666th Devil Dogs (666), TRG, and OP4 will be hosting this 24-hour livestream event where players from all factions can unite against "the real Fourth Faction" and donate to the cause. Using the event's GoFundMe site, players can show their support by pledging to support favorite streamers or even placing bets on competitive events during the stream. Of course, just being a part and showing support and solidarity is also welcome! Those wishing to participate in the play-a-thon as streamers should contact MagnmStallion (CASH), LadyShade (666), Oblivion (TRG), orTheLostLenore (OP4).

October is breast cancer awareness month in the United States. Here at WoW Insider we have featured a number of in-game events in the past that have been organized around raising awareness for breast cancer. This year, we have been informed that the guild Endless Insanity on Uldum is running their own event in support of breast cancer awareness. Members of Endless Insanity have turned their tabards pink for this month and they have issued a challenge to other Horde guilds on the server to also turn their tabards pink in solidarity. Guild officers will be randomly opening trade and offering a variety of goodies to those they find sporting the pink tabards. To those who have been affected by breast cancer -- whether you are a survivor, facing treatment right now, a loved one of someone who is, or have lost someone close to you to breast cancer -- we at WoW Insider salute you and wish you strength in your struggles. And to the guild Endless Insanity and any others that may follow their example this year, we thank you and hope that you inspire many to join in the efforts for the cure. Thanks to the members of Endless Insanity who informed us of their events -- and here's to hoping it inspires some other guilds to do the same!

  • GE rolls out pink and black H855 digital cameras

GE hasn't exactly impressed us (or others) with its digital cameras in the past, but it looks those taking a chance on the company's new H855 model will at least be supporting a good cause in the process, as a portion of the proceeds from each camera will be donated to the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation. From the looks of it, the cameras also look to be somewhat of an improvement over previous models, with them boasting a full 8 megapixels, a 5x optical zoom, a 3-inch LCD screen, and a 28-mm equivalent wide-angle lens. Unlike some other similarly charitable-minded products, you apparently won't have to buy the pink version to see your money put to good use, with a black model also available for those that prefer to keep things a little more discreet. You will, however, have to buy them from the Home Shopping Network, which has these exclusive starting October 20th. No word on a price just yet though.
