HMD revamps its Nokia smartphone lineup with six new affordable models
HMD first made a name for itself by remaking a classic feature phone — and triggering an avalanche of hype in the process. The Finnish company has been dutifully churning out Nokia-branded smartphones ever since, but during an online launch event today, HMD was eager to prove that it's been up to more than business as usual. For one, those numbers-only model names are gone, replaced by three new smartphone ranges: the X, G, and C series. And to make getting connected even easier, the company is making an end-run around its usual carrier partners by lighting up an HMD-branded MVNO in the UK with a global roll-out to follow.
Lenovo ThinkCentre M90z all-in-one is made for large businesses, but startups like it too
Giant corporations may have huge, sprawling campuses sitting ominously just outside of city limits, but sometimes even they are running short on desk space -- apparently. It's for those organizations that Lenovo has created the ThinkCentre M90z, which the company is touting as the "first large business-focused 23-inch all-in-one desktop." Starting at $899, it offers Intel Core i3 or i5 processors, DDR3 ram, SSD or platter storage, an integrated webcam, and of course that 23-inch touchscreen display. For more traditional establishments that like to keep things apart, there are the $1,199 and up ThinkStation C20 and C20x desktops, said to be 46 percent smaller than the ubiquitous Dell Precision T5500 and are also rack-mountable. Finally, and interestingly, there are the $259 C2230x and $279 L2321x Wide monitors, both 21.5-inch models that offer multi-tasking functionality. The former packs a port-replicator, making it easy to connect to multiple machines, while the latter can be split-screened and display two inputs at once. Hooray? All these wonderful things will be hitting fabric-walled cubicles between now and the end of July, and all are fully detailed in the press release after the break.
Samsung's SMX-C20UN is compact, oddly angled, and YouTube friendly
Samsung's had this thing with the angled lenses lately. Apparently the camera is much more ergonomic when pointed down 25 degrees -- which is probably a much less natural shooting position as well, but we'll leave that up to you to decide. Anyways, the company's newest such beauty, the SMX-C20UN, features a 2.7-inch display, 1/6-inch (680K) CCD sensor, 10x optical zoom, SDHC storage, and support for H.264 video. As is usually the case nowadays, video can be edited on the camera and uploaded directly to YouTube -- perfect for capturing those embarrassing v-blogs before you sober up and your social filter kicks in. Available now for $200.
Samsung's camcorders and one big dummy camera at CES
Right after seeing the ultra-slim TVs we went to the other end of Samsung's CES booth for its camcorder lineup. As expected, we saw the previously-announced S series SSD models, the F series with 52x optical zoom and the stylish C series, but we also spotted what appears to be a refresh of the HMX-U10 camcorder brick. Admittedly, we were more interested in this dummy gigantic TL225 camera, and it wasn't even new. %Gallery-82132%
Samsung overhauls camcorder line, has something for everyone
Keeping up the torrent of digital imaging announcements, Samsung has now updated pretty much every cam in its range, and we've picked out the highlights for you: The C20, C24 and M20 are a trio of ultra-stylish handhelds, carrying on the C-series lineage, which regrettably means a scant 720 x 480 resolution to go with your Touch of Color. The less fashion-conscious M20 gets a CMOS sensor that stretches all the way up to 1920 x 1280/60p, while all three share Samsung's famed Active Angle Lens. The F40, F43 and F44 bring a super duper 52x optical zoom, but again record at a disappointing 720 x 480. Really Samsung? The H200, H203, H204, and H205 offer 1080/60i credentials and HDMI output, augmented by SSD choices (up to 32GB) on the higher models and 20x optical zoom. Optical image stabilization and a 2.7-inch touchscreen LCD make these appealing, particularly if you expand the internal storage with a few jumbo-sized SDHC cards. The S10, S15 and S16 collectively occupy Samsung's top tier, sporting a backside illuminated 10 megapixel CMOS sensor outputting 1080/60i video. Built-in SSD storage stretches up to 64GB, and there's also a 15x optical zoom, WiFi connectivity, and a 3.5-inch touchscreen running a 3D GUI.
