Looking for a new game to try but tight on cash? The folks over at Direct2Drive have their fifth birthday sale going on now, and what's better - they have a few MMOs in the mix this week. That's right: for less than a triskadecaccino no-whip chocolate half-caf latte with soy milk, you can score a copy of Age of Conan, EVE Online, or PlanetSide, along with one month of brand-spanking-new game time. That's a crazy good deal if you've ever thought about picking up any of these games. It's an even better deal when you consider that you can't even get one month of game time in any of them for five bucks. What are you waiting for? Go! Get some inexpensive MMOs! Oh, also - happy birthday Direct2Drive! (And thanks for that $5 copy of Bioshock!)

For today and today only, GameStop is selling their downloadable copies of Final Fantasy XI for only 10 US dollars! If you're thinking, "Well, it's probably only the original game and none of the expansion," then you would also be wrong! The version of the game that they're offering is the Vana'diel Collection 2008, which means it includes all of the expansions, even the newest expansion, Wings of the Goddess. So if you're looking for a new MMO to get into, don't have an amazingly powerful PC, and don't have much cash to spend, you might want to seriously consider this deal. It's 10 bucks for a game and 3 whole expansions, the first month free, and it's going on for today only!

For any gamer, seeing a bargain bin often ends in a multi-minute thumbing through its collection of treasures. Odd games that held a past interest yet were priced too high initially are usually what we encounter, now lowered to a cost that we are more than fine with paying. It's pretty much how we catch up on games we missed. So what was the last great find you had from a bargain bin? Something that was a featured sale, perhaps seen here? Was it something you found at your local shop? What was it?

  • Deal: Assassin's Creed, Kane & Lynch for $40 each

Ah, deals. They're either a blessing or a curse, depending on how you want to look at them. Sometimes they're just an undeniably awesome steal; at other times, they're a cleverly disguised way to rope you in on puchasing games you were previously borderline on getting. Throw in the fact that today's deal involves two somewhat politically controversial games in the realm of game journalism -- one more so over the other -- and there's more to it than meets the eye. But enough of this unnecessary analysis! We're all about the numbers and the savings, right? Right. If anyone's still thinking of picking up either Assassin's Creed or Kane & Lynch and hasn't done so already, then Best Buy probably has the deal for you. Both games are on sale at $39.99; that's 20 bucks worth of savings, politics not included in the box. [Via CAG]

  • EB Canada: $59.99 Legendary Halo 3

Browsing through the neighborhood EB Games in Toronto we were stopped by a monolith of stacked Halo 3 Legendary editions in the middle of the store. While the boxes have seen better days, one thing we noticed was the price-point. Seems Wal-Mart isn't the only company attempting to unload an inventory of cat helmets. EB Games Canada has marked down each Halo 3 Legendary edition to $59.99 (CND) at all its retail locations. The manager told us the company was attempting to rid itself of the excess stock, which is probably taking up quite a section in their distribution center. If any Canadian readers were holding out on Halo 3, the announcement of new downloadable content and this price-point is a hard offer to pass up. At the time of this story EBGames.com lists the Legendary Edition for $79.99 (US) plus shipping. We quickly snapped a photo in the store and ninja'ed out before being discovered. We only escaped because, like you heard during Fancast 054, ninjas are so much better than pirates.

We haven't heard much about Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles as of late, but that's probably because everyone's been hunkered down playing it. For those who haven't, however, have we got a deal for you! Right now, Amazon has slashed the price on the game to only $20 with free shipping. Our very own Nick Doerr gave the game an 8.5 when he reviewed it, and even said, "If you love Castlevania, this is the definitive game to get." Well, there you have it; if you're a Castlevania fan, this should definitely be in your library. Via CAG

Believe it or not, major retailers are still carrying UMD movies, but Circuit City is most definitely the place to go to add to your collection this week. Through Sunday, the retail chain is offering several great titles for only $7 a piece. Here's the full line-up: Spider-Man 2 Spider-man XXX Men In Black Big Daddy Bad Boys Underworld S.W.A.T. Hitch Click If you'd like our personal picks, we'd have to go with Men in Black and Underworld. Both take interesting twists to their respective genres and are damn entertaining. While you're there, look for Mortal Kombat: Unchained, because it's on sale for $14.

If you're like us and got some much-needed time off during the holidays, you were probably able to catch up on a lot of gaming. And now that you've played all your games and have all those gift cards from Christmas, what is a gamer to do? Well, thanks to CheapyD and speedy1961 at Cheapass Gamer, you'll be able to restock your backlog of games as they've compiled the best deals from this past Sunday's ads.Best Buy Rainbow Six: Vegas - $40 Resistance: Fall Of Man - $40 Need For Speed: Pro Street - $40 Circuit City Assassin's Creed - $45 Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 - $45 This is pretty much the cheapest we've seen several of these games, and we're still surprised at how well Resistance has been able to keep its market value despite it being a launch title. Keep in mind, these deals are good for online and in-store, but you'll have to pay for shipping, which can ruin the good deal.

Despite GameStop being the biggest video game retail chain in this universe, Gamefly routinely has much better deals on used games. Plus, the online rental chain always guarantees boxes and manuals with its games, something that GameStop doesn't do.To prove my previous assertion, Gamefly is having a sale for the ages with free shipping on every game until Jan. 4. Plus, if you're already a subscriber, you'll get 5-to-10 percent off each game. Here are just a few of the great deals to be had. MLB 2K7 - $13 All-Pro Football 2K8 - $15 Tony Hawk's Project 8 $20 Sega Rally Revo - $20 The Bigs - $20 F.E.A.R. First Encounter - $25 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - $26 Sure, these games may not be the cream of the PS3's proverbial crop, but they're all pretty solid titles, and if you haven't had the chance to play them yet, here's a great opportunity.
