  • Rumor: GTA Wii project in the works

With recent details dropping about the DS game, GTA: Chinatown Wars, the relationship between Take-Two and Rockstar with Nintendo was on the mind of the press. Take-Two CEO, Ben Feder, addressed the idea of Rockstar and its publisher bringing something to the Wii, namely its big franchise, Grand Theft Auto."Without commenting on whether GTA is coming to the Wii or not, Nintendo and Take-Two work very well together; Nintendo and Rockstar work well together, and we are continuing to grow that relationship," said Feder. He also commented that the relationship is not "one-way." He wants everyone to know that GTA: Chinatown Wars "is not even the first step, but an important step, in continuing to develop that relationship."So, the substance to back this rumor is kind of light. Feder addressed the idea, but not really. When you think about it, though, Take-Two and Rockstar, as well as Nintendo, are in this for the money. And what could be a better cash generator than bringing one of gaming's most popular franchises to a console that has a humongous base?See also: GTA usurps Ocarina of Time

  • Rumor: GTA Chinatown Wars detailed in survey

Aside from spontaneous automobile theft and an abundance of paper lanterns, we really don't know what we can expect to find in Rockstar's DS downsizing of its infamous crime caper, Grand Theft Auto. If an alleged survey sent in to UGO's Games Blog is to be believed -- and let's be clear, this "if" is large enough to trample just about any virtual metropolis -- Chinatown Wars will have plenty of features to clutter up the back of its tiny box.An open world with changing weather and traffic patterns? Check. A "mature" storyline featuring a "young gang soldier involved in the internal power struggle for control of his gang?" Check. Multiplayer modes, 70+ missions and stylus-based minigames, "such as assembling a sniper rifle?" Check. Truthfulness of survey and its claim that said features are connected to Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars? We'll have to check on that. But purely out of interest, does this sound like a portable GTA you'd want to play?[Thanks, Kareem]

  • Reggie totally cool with a GTA on the Wii

With Chinatown Wars on the way to the DS real soon, it's abundantly clear that Nintendo has no qualms about releasing a Grand Theft Auto game on their hardware. The next question is obvious: will we see GTA on the Wii? Speaking to MTV, Reggie had an answer for that -- maybe. Lay it out straight for us, home boy.The fact is, it's not really in Nintendo's "power" to simply rock up and demand Take Two and Rockstar get working on waggling with hookers. Reggie simply said a Wii installment "is all based on what Rockstar and Take Two want to do." If they want to go ahead with it, Reggie won;t have a problem, saying "if they build a bottoms-up game that takes advantage of what we do well, I'd love to see it on the platform."We would love to see it on the platform too. Please?

In its second year as a diminished behemoth, E3 still manages to be packed full with news, media, and more. While there wasn't much from Nintendo themselves for the DS this year, third parties are still incredibly strong and we're faced with more games than we can possibly handle. We're also pretty sure we saw almost all of them at E3 this year. Relive the entire experience right from the convenience of this post! Check out our choices for show highlights right here, or hit the break for the full rundown of our E3 coverage. Of course, we're still adding things, and will be over the next few days; keep up by clicking the E3 graphic in the sidebar. GTA: Chinatown Wars shooting up the DS in winter! As the sun sets on another E3, we thought today's DS Daily would be the ideal spot to round up all of your thoughts on the DS-related happenings of the last three days. The biggest news -- insofar that it will probably interest the most people, anyway -- is the announcement of a Grand Theft Auto game for the handheld, a genuine bolt from the blue. Another Guitar Hero is relatively big (if totally predictable) news also, and we were personally delighted by the announcement of Wii-to-DS connectivity for Animal Crossing: Wild World, and the localization of Rhythm Tengoku. What about you? Highlights? Lowlights? Favorite moments? Most shocking omissions? We like numbers, so give the DS's E3 a mark out of ten if you like!

  • DS Daily: How about GTA, then?

Nintendo themselves would be the first to praise DS populairty with children and kindly elderly folk -- the polar opposite target markets for anything related to Grand Theft Auto. However, Cammie smiled that big smile of hers on stage at E3, spoke about Animal Crossing, Pokemon and Wii Music -- then casually slipped in the announcement of GTA: Chinatown Wars.Does the DS have a place for GTA? Or, more accurately, should the DS have a place for GTA? With such a family-friendly system, are you at all surprised that Nintendo has opted to include such adult material?

  • GTA Chinatown website opens, hints at online modes

Well, that didn't take long. A mere few hours after it was announced on stage at Hollywood's Kodak Theater, an official site has materialized for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. A few logos aside, it's totally content-free at the moment, but one thing did catch our eye: the appearance of the light blue Nintendo WiFi Connection badge. This means that Chinatown Wars has some kind of online mode, but what, exactly? Expecting online play is probably overly optimistic, so we'd lean towards DLC, or the ability to share content.[Via Go Nintendo]

This year's Nintendo conference at E3 felt much too short, but was packed with some really great announcements. Did you really expect a DS Grand Theft Auto game? But in case you missed the show, or simply prefer an abridged version, here are the highlights. Read our live reactions here, or check out Joystiq's liveblog if you're feeling adventurous. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars brings Liberty City to our favorite handheld, and on a brand new engine, too! Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades is the DS's answer to the next iteration of the smash franchise (and will use the Guitar Grip) The Cooking Guide is set for a US release this year -- November, to be exact. Aaaaand ... other than a mention of Pokémon Ranger, that's it! All big news, but not exactly on the level we expected.

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo/GTA_Chinatown_Wars_shooting_up_the_DS_in_winter'; And ... snap. Since the oft-panned Grand Theft Auto on the GBA, we have waited for another handheld installment. We have it now, with GTA: Chinatown Wars, coming this winter on DS. The game will feature a brand new engine (hopefully ditching the top-down view) and will take place in Liberty City -- the flagship location of the GTA series. If you played GTAIII and IV, you will have trekked through Chinatown (the awesomest place ever), and more of the high-fighting action in Chinatown Wars will be fantastic. Coming this winter, like, a few months away!
