The train of Square Enix titles continues to barrel through the PSOne Classics storefront on the Japanese PSN, as producer Shinji Hashimoto recently revealed the next PlayStation-era title bound for the platform. You can guess if you'd like, but considering how just about all of Squeenix's PSOne games are on the PSN -- in Japan, at least -- that might take a while. According to Siliconera's translation, the game in question is the original Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon, an RPG you probably never played, assuming you weren't living in Japan in late 1997. Hashimoto didn't mention any kind of time table for the game's arrival on the Japanese PSN, but we hear it's coming to the North American store sometime in Febtober, which is a made-up month, because it's never coming to the North American store.

The Wii did well last week in Japan, finally managing to outsell the PlayStation 3 again by five to one. Wii Fit, Super Mario Galaxy, and Mario and Sonic continued to find success in the software sales charts, while Wii Sports and Wii Play extend their quests toward spectacularly high numbers. We're glad to see that Super Mario Galaxy is doing well (the game is great, in case you haven't noticed), and are still awed by the phenomenon that is Wii Sports. Only one game in the top ten (and top fifteen, for that matter) was for a non-Nintendo system, which exemplifies the company's current dominance in Japan. Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon is mysteriously missing from the charts, however, leading some to speculate that the game sold less than FIFA 360 (which took the last place with 2,400 copies sold).Check after the break to see the sales numbers for Japan's hardware and software.

It's that time of the week again when we find out how the Wii and its games sold in Japan. While we really have no need to be worried about the hardware, certain unconfirmed numbers earlier this week did raise concerns about third-party software sales. So, how did the fair Wii fare in the land of the rising sun this week? Regarding hardware sales, the Wii just barely eked out in front of the PSP to take second place with 168,000 units sold, jumping up over 50,000 units from last week. As for the software, there's some good and bad news. Check after the break to see the numbers.

  • Square-Enix's creatively-named Virtual World

The acerbic lads at Kotaku bring the snark once again with their announcement of an announcement over Square-Enix's upcoming virtual world called Virtual World ... virtual world. There, I couldn't resist. The post's comparison to Second Life, however, is slightly off-the-mark, as SL doesn't run on ad revenues, while Sony's Home certainly will. Similarly, Virtual World will feature ads for Square-Enix games, and given that Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon will be a Wii title, there could be other Wii titles on display as well. Besides the ability to have tea with a Chocobo, will there be any reason for people to want to enter Virtual World? And besides, everybody knows Chocobos like Gysahl Greens anyway -- I mean, duh.

The latest trailer for Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon is mysterious because we can't find out what we like about it most. Maybe it's the soothing music that feels like it should be playing during the credits of Battle Royale or something (don't ask us how we came up with that association, they really don't sound that alike). Maybe it's the young green-haired boy, who reminds us of Cabbage Head (oh, how we miss you Kids in the Hall). Or, maybe it's because that Chocobo is just so darn cute.[Via Go Nintendo]

Well, maybe not the whole mystery, but we're definitely getting a more clear picture of what this game is all about. And, as far as mysterious dungeons go, we can think of nothing more than a giant, delicious and cute bird who should traverse them. Especially one that is so multi-talented. And, if you were looking for some new screens for the upcoming Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon, then JeuxFrance has enough screens that, should you wish, you could print each one out and sew them together, making yourself a nice little blanket. Of course, we can't condone such a thing. We'd hate to see you get a nasty papercut.

  • TGS hands-on: Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon (Wii)

Square Enix's upcoming cute-em-up dungeon crawler, Chocobo's Dungeon: Toki-Wasure no Meikyuu will be released in Japan on the 13th of December. We managed to drag ourselves away from the giant Chocobo guarding the entrance to Square Enix's booth long enough to check the game out.Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon is, essentially, a sequel to Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon 1 and 2 for the PlayStation. While those games didn't do as well as perhaps they should have (only Mysterious Dungeon 2 was released outside Japan) Square Enix seem to be giving the franchise one more chance on the Wii. This latest iteration maintains much of the cuteness of the previous titles, keeping a consistant art style with all past Chocobo based games, whilst using a softer palette of colours throughout. The world of Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon is now full of pastel shades, as opposed to the bright primary colours used in games such as Chocobo Tales.%Gallery-7698%
