It's great how Blizzard encourages community art, with the Community Cosplay and these comic competitions. This month's contribution is a particular favorite here at WoW Insider, following our pledge of loyalty to the Sha of Happiness. The Sha of Procrastination is a formidable enemy, particularly for writers like us, and we really enjoyed his nonchalant shrug! Blizzard And the comic contest winner for October, 2012, is ... Ethan Cantrell (Jopte). The talented winner will receive a World of Warcraft® Poker Set. Congratulations! In November, we'll be giving away a BlizzCon®: Villian Messenger Bag to the winner of the next Blizzard Comic Contest. Keep those comics coming, and you might be the next artist to take home a prize! Also, be sure to set aside some time to check out our Warcraft and StarCraft comic sections. source Great job, Jopte! And all those talented artists out there should definitely get involved in these competitions! That bag looks great, for one. Mists of Pandaria is here! The level cap has been raised to 90, many players have returned to Azeroth, and pet battles are taking the world by storm. Keep an eye out for all of the latest news, and check out our comprehensive guide to Mists of Pandaria for everything you'll ever need to know.

  • More World of Warcraft comics added to contest gallery

Blizzard has updated the comic contest gallery with more leftovers from the community comic contest. You can check out the full gallery at the Blizzard community site. If you go through the gallery, you'll see some familiar art styles from some of the bigger WoW comic artists out there. Plus, the comic that Blizzard linked in the blue post put a smile on my face. Oh, Chimaeron, you are hilarious. Still in the mood for more WoW comics? WoW Insider has got you covered (as usual) with Amanda Miller's weekly Sunday Morning Funnies and, of course, our very own weekly webcomic by Kelly Aarons. Blizzard knows that there are a lot of WoW comic creators out there and, from their continued support and contests for comic creators, definitely like showing off what the community has to offer. More World of Warcraft Comics We have some tasty leftovers from our community comic contest to share. This comic was submitted by Shannon Fowler (Amyiss). Check out the full gallery here. source

  • Dj vu in WoW comic contest?

A new winner has been announced for May in Blizzard's World of Warcraft comic contest. While I like the art, I didn't find it particularly funny... but only because it already seemed very familiar. It turns out that a comic with a similar theme had already won the contest in June last year. It's not quite the same, but to me, the joke seemed to be the same thing: an overweight passenger on an undersized mount. If you look at the comparison of the two comics (after the jump), even the color palette seems to be the same. They're both set in Hellfire Peninsula, too. While I honestly don't think one copied the other, I couldn't help but feel there was some sense of déjà vu with the whole thing. I mean, I like the art -- they're both nicely drawn -- but the joke seems to be too similar for me to laugh at the second one. Maybe the folks at Blizzard just find the idea of big guys on small mounts -- in Hellfire -- so funny that they just have to make it win again.

I've let several October contest honorable mentions come and go without a post, so here's a collection of them. So far we have comics from Bludlemon talking about psychic scream, Twolions painting a picture of baby Thrall, Jagoda mourning a lack of bag space, Taskal pondering the anachronisms in Azeroth, and Gondon showing us what WoW toons do in their free time. And if you've got your own ideas for a great World of Warcraft comic, this comic contest will continue until the end of the year, so get out your pens, pencils, markers, mice, or whatever method of creative expression you desire, and get working on your own submission.

This honorable mention comes to us courtesy of player Kaigon of Seven Skulls (and, if you can't access the official site from work, you can see a copy of the comic here). The poor Tauren whom you see pictured on the right, is obviously at the end of his rope...And if you've got your own ideas for a great World of Warcraft comic, this comic contest will continue until the end of the year, so get out your pens, pencils, markers, mice, or whatever method of creative expression you desire, and get working on your own submission.

September's winner cracks me up -- and it does prove that you can win the contest with artistic skills of any level. Didn't think orcs and humans could get along, did you -- well, think again (and read the comic). And if you've got your own ideas for a great World of Warcraft comic, this comic contest will continue until the end of the year, so get out your pens, pencils, markers, mice, or whatever method of creative expression you desire, and get working on your own submission.

There seem to be two new honorable mentions up for September's comic contest. The first shows us the tedious job of being a warlock while the second shows off this swanky mount. And if you've got your own ideas for a great World of Warcraft comic, this comic contest will continue until the end of the year, so get out your pens, pencils, markers, mice, or whatever method of creative expression you desire, and get working on your own submission.

While I'm sure this sort of undead joke has been done before, I couldn't help but giggle when I saw this week's comic. Poor undead - if they weren't so very devious and, at times, downright evil, you might have to feel sorry for them. And if you've got your own ideas for a great World of Warcraft comic, this comic contest will continue until the end of the year, so get out your pens, pencils, markers, mice, or whatever method of creative expression you desire, and get working on your own submission.

I've just noticed that Blizzard's comic contest has announced a new honorable mention as well as August's contest winner. The honorable mention comes curtesy of Sabettan, and explains one of the game's great mysteries. August's winner comes to us from Keydar, and heavily exploits the fact that you cannot help but laugh at a flying Gnome. (Well, okay, I probably would have laughed at a paniced, flying Night Elf, too.)Got your own comic ideas? Put them in a digital format and submit them! The comic contest will be running until the end of the year, so there's still plenty of time to submit your own work for consideration.

  • Another Comic Contest Honorable Mention

If these are really supposed to be a weekly thing, then they're running early this week - or perhaps they've just had a slew of good entries to feature. At any rate, there's another honorable mention posted. This comic addresses something that's always puzzled me - non-combat pets and stealth. My own rogue has a black tabby that trails along after me, whether I'm stealthed or unstealthed. Isn't this just a dead-giveaway to my enemies? Well, this comic suggests that it may not be...And if you feel you have the talent to compete, the comic contest runs all year, and there's still time to submit your own work for consideration!

I admit, I find this week's honorable mention comic, by Oscaron, a little puzzling. A tiny mailbox? What? However, that was before I found this - a printable template with which to create your own tiny mailbox, for those times the server is offline. Now that's funny. Again, if you feel you have the talent to compete, Blizzard is running this comic contest all year, and there's still time to submit your own work for consideration!

July's comic contest winner has been announced. This comic by Barbosa <Anguish> took the grand prize, but you can also check out the month's honorable mentions, which are just as good. If you fancy yourself a comic maker, the contest continues for the rest of the year, with one winner per month - what have you got to loose by trying?

While they aren't announcing this month's comic contest winner yet,  Blizzard is  publishing one honorable mention comic every Monday with plans to announce the winner at the end of May.  Check out this week's comic by Keydar (of Dark Legacy Comics), and stay tuned for more next week! If you're a hopeful comic creator, fear not - there's plenty of time to submit your work for next month's contest.

Blizzard is accepting submissions of WoW related comic strips for posting on the web site.  One "exceptional" comic a month will be chosen to win a prize - a Blizzard-branded iPod Nano and the first two volumes of The Sunwell Trilogy.  Decent rewards, and I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting comics about my favorite pastime.  (Posted above is a portion of a strip from Mac Hall - a personal favorite.)
