If you're a fan of dated, obscure 2D JRPGs, then you'll be glad to know that the former PS3-exclusive Cross Edge is getting an Xbox 360 port. The original game featured a mish-mash of characters from Darkstalkers, Disgaea, Ar Tonelico and more. The novelty of seeing characters from a variety of series (all owned by different companies) couldn't offset its PS1-quality production values and repetitive gameplay, though, with Cross Edge currently holding a Metacritic score of 47.Regardless, developer Compile Heart is working on a version just for Xbox 360 called Cross Edge Dash. Just like the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia, this late port will feature a number of enhancements, such as new events and a Colosseum mode. The game will be available in Japan this October, with a US release unannounced.

  • Cross Edge trailer is the 'perfect collaboration of five'

Cross Edge is all about fanservice for a very select group of people. Gust, Capcom, Nippon Ichi Software, Namco Bandai and Idea Factory come together for a PS3-exclusive RPG that's made for the most hardcore of JRPG fans. This collaboration is finally coming to the US, and comes with a rather hilarious localization. Take for example, the main character's name: York Neely. Yes, that's really what his name is.This trailer highlights the various characters featured in the game, and for better or worse, lets us hear what they sound like. The dub is rather typical of most anime ... from the early 90s. Be careful not to put the speakers on too loud -- your ears may bleed.

Publisher NIS America announced this morning that the unconventional RPG Cross Edge will head to the US on May 24 after being delayed last month in the name of Trophies. Best described as fan service, the game was co-developed by Nippon Ichi Software, Idea Factory, Gust, Namco Bandai and Capcom, and features popular characters from such titles as Disgaea, Darkstalkers, Mana Khemia 3, Ar tonelico and Spectral Souls in a variety of questionable outfits. Finally, PlayStation 3 owners hungry for some niche role-playing in their diets have a date to circle on their 'Girls of Anime' calendar. It's about time that thing got some action besides your ceaseless leering. Seriously, it's creepy.

  • US release of Cross Edge delayed for Trophy support

NIS America is bringing quirky (and low budget) JRPG Cross Edge to the States. While it was expected to release this March, Siliconera has found out the game has been quietly delayed. The reason? Nippon Ichi is spending a bit more time on the game, adding a feature missing from the original Japanese release of the game: Trophies. Perhaps Sony's "mandator Trophy support" mantra has finally kicked in?Currently, NIS is aiming for a May release, although no date has been set in stone.

Speaking to RPGamer, an NIS America representative confirmed the rumors that the ensemble RPG Cross Edge will be headed for the US. That's great news for traditional JRPG fans everywhere -- the Compile Heart title features characters from the companies Capcom, Namco-Bandai, Gust, Idea Factory and Nippon Ichi. Mark your calendar, kids -- the game will be released in March 2009. To learn more, check out our coverage of the PS3 exclusive here. [Thanks, Marcus N.!]

  • Rumor: Cross Edge headed Stateside

Unfortunately, ensemble titles involving characters from multiple Japanese companies traditionally failed to get released in the US due to licensing issues (think Namco x Capcom and Jump Super Stars). So most of us pretty much thought Cross Edge was going to suffer the same fate; afterall, it features characters from IPs such as Darkstalkers, Disgaea, Ar Tonelico to name a few. Luckily, Siliconera is reporting that "trusted source" has informed them that a company "we know very well" will be releasing the title stateside. We are crossing our fingers and toes hoping this is true, and it will certainly help quench the thirst of PS3 owners for JPRGs. Check out the known roster of the game after the jump, again courtesy of Siliconera.

It's time to get your translating hats on, everyone. A Japanese trailer for Cross Edge has hit the airwaves and we have no idea what it's saying. We see a ton of cast members, from Darkstalkers, Disgaea, the Atelier series (including Mana Khemia) as well as Ar Tonelico, doling out some voice-acting skills and massive damage. We're not quite sure what the game is about or how all these characters end up fighting alongside the main characters of the game, but the battles seem frenetic and entertaining. We're itching to see more because 2D is far from dead. [Via Siliconera]

  • Cross Edge promotional art reveals more characters

Some promotional art for the PlayStation 3 game Cross Edge has been located -- it's blurry, but we're not picky. This cross-over game features characters from multiple franchises including Darkstalkers and various Nippon Ichi and Gust properties. Compile Heart has slapped up a bunch of characters on said promotional art, but we can't identify them all. SiliconEra has an updated roster from what they could identify, but it's far from complete. If you can name any of the characters on there they haven't, you'll not only get huge props, but a freshly-baked bundle of e-cookies will be shipped to your e-stomach.

  • Idea Factory's next title, Cross Edge, houses Nippon Ichi faves

We need to maintain our composure and monitor our excitement on here, or else we'll seem incredibly biased. It's difficult, though, because ever since we heard about Idea Factory's next character crossover title (Chaos Wars was their last one) dubbed Cross Edge, we can't sit still. JRPG's are very slow to hit the PS3, but this title not only brings a PS3 JRPG to the table, but one with characters from cherished franchises to Nippon Ichi loyalists as well as other big titles. You play as the hero, Yuuto and heroine Mikoto and basically free a bunch of girls from other video games. You'll see Dark Stalkers, Atelier game characters, Ar Tonelico characters, Disgaea characters, and more. The game itself plays like a cross between "dress up" and Valkyrie Profile. Depending on the costume your ladies are in, they will have a different attack assigned to the face buttons when in battle. Well, perhaps it's best you check out the screens SiliconEra has put up. Let's hope licensing isn't a big issue and we see this hit outside of Japan.
