Eden Studios' Nour Polloni recently sat down with Gamespot to give them a first glimpse at where Alone in the Dark stands and to reveal some information on the sequel to the game that invented Survival Horror. The game's protagonist, Edward Carnby, returns from the original game, which took place during the 1920's, to present-time New York. How he remains the same age is one of the game's many secrets. The piece also goes on to state that the development team is taking heavy inspiration from the successful shift that Resident Evil 4 made from a methodic, slow-paced survival title to a more tense, white-knuckle action game. The team says that they plan on making the same switch with Alone in the Dark and plan on the game featuring segments of stealth gameplay, melee action, and puzzle-solving.

Some small snippets of gameplay footage (see: two) for the upcoming PS3 title Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom are available for your gawking pleasure over at IGN. The game's graphics are looking very nice at this stage of the game, showing some polished detail on the enemy models and giant-hammer-wielding-hero-guy as they run around in a grassy field littered with rocks, doing what enemies and hero-guys do. Who else is looking forward to this one?

If the above ad for Tenchu Dark Shadow makes you think you could be even the deadliest assassin, employing beartraps to thwart your enemies through your sexy, sleek DS Lite, opening it and slamming it shut with the deadly conviction only a master ninja possesses, then you need to stop watching TV. For the rest of us, we'll just get a kick out of the hilarious face the balding pursuer makes as he's butt-shoved back-kicked into the water. [Thanks mandarin!]

  • Don't expect any Rare games on the Virtual Console...

...according to Matt over at IGN, who claims to have spoken with some key Rare folk about the possibility of some of Rare's past greats to be in Nintendo's Virtual Console's starting lineup during GDC. While it's pretty much a given that this would be the case, what with Rare being alligned under the cold, Borg-like, Microsoft Game Studios, no-shows will undoubtedly be Killer Instinct, Perfect Dark, Banjo & Kazooie, Goldeneye 007, and Blast Corps. That last one hits this Blogger especially hard. I know many people would say the N64's strongest game was Goldeneye 007 or Perfect Dark, some might claim its stellar first-party offerings in Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 were superior, but for this Blogger no other experience on the console could top the sheer ecstasy of uppercutting buildings as a giant mech and bulldozing gas stations in Blast Corps. It was like a digital incarnation of my childhood with Tonka trucks and Transformers.
