The monstrous pugilists of the Darkstalkers universe remain entombed in Capcom's fighting character vaults, awaiting the day that they might be revived for a sequel. While that wait seems interminable, fans can now delve into the series' gorgeous artwork thanks to a new release from Udon Entertainment. First revealed at Comic-Con 2013, Darkstalkers: Official Complete Works is a softback, 224-page compendium packed to the gills with official concept art, rare design documents, series' tributes and interviews with the Japanese developers who created the cult-favorite yet largely forgotten fighting game franchise. As with all Udon products, you can likely find Darkstalkers: Official Complete Works at your local comic book shop, though, depending on where you live, it may be easier to simply order the book online. Udon's website lists a $40 price point for Darkstalkers: Official Complete Works, while Amazon has it at just under $29, with free shipping if you're an Amazon Prime member. For more details, and a 10-page, full-color preview, visit the Darkstalkers: Official Complete Works website. [Image: Udon Entertainment]

The word of the week on Xbox Live is "dark," evidently, as both DarkStalkers Resurrection and the Games on Demand version of Dark Souls are heavily discounted until June 4. You can pick up either game for $10. The marketplace also has Ghost Recon: Future Soldier for $15, along with some discounted DLC for the tactical shooter. We realize that one doesn't have "dark" in the title, but it does have "ghost." Both DarkStalkers and Dark Souls have ghosts in them, so it makes sense, see? PSN is running a DarkStalkers Resurrection deal of its own as well. Pick up Resurrection for $15 and you'll get a free download of the excellent Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix. PlayStation Plus members can get the same deal for only $10.49. This promotion also runs until June 4.

Darkstalkers Resurrection will receive a new "Fight Request" feature via an April 12 patch, according to Shoryuken's translation of an update to the official Japanese website. Fight Requests, also found in Super Street Fighter 4 (among other games) allow players to queue up for online matches while practicing in offline modes, such as Arcade and Training. The update also fixes various online matchmaking bugs, voice chat errors and in-game glitches, the full list of which can be found here, if you're into that sort of thing. For most people, however, the game will remain broadly unchanged.

The launch trailer for Darkstalkers Resurrection is worth watching even if you've spent years playing these games and therefore have a good idea of what they look like, because of some excellently spooky voiceover work.As the trailer reminds us, Darkstalkers Resurrection is out this week, tomorrow on PSN and Wednesday on XBLA. Capcom wisely gave its characters a one-week head start before Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is released.

Darkstalkers Resurrection gnaws on the neck of North America's PSN on March 12, before moving on to XBLA worldwide and Europe's PSN for seconds on March 13, Capcom tells us. The all-in-one re-release of fighters Darkstalkers 3 and Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge is priced $14.99/£11.99/€14.99 on PSN, and 1200 MSP on XBLA.Shortly after Resurrection was announced, Capcom talked about the potential for another Darkstalkers game based on the success of this re-release, with company producer Yoshinori Ono very much behind the idea of a fourth entry in the series. If Resurrection proves a hit, we can probably expect Darkstalkers 4 in the not-too-distant future.%Gallery-178782%

Darkstalkers Resurrection, the XBLA/PSN combo re-release of Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge and Darkstalkers 3 announced during NYCC last October, has had its Japanese release date changed from February 7 to March 14, according to Siliconera's translation of the game's Japanese website. The extended development time will be used to improve the netcode being stuffed into both games, as well as to ensure that the ports themselves are as arcade-perfect as possible. Capcom has told us that the Japanese delay will have "no impact" on a North American release, and that "the game is still on track for release early next year in North America."

Following its reveal yesterday, Capcom is hosting a live gameplay session of Darkstalkers Resurrection from the New York Comic Con, and you can watch it right here. Resurrection is a double-pack of Darkstalkers' Revenge and Darkstalkers 3 in one single downloadable game, and is coming to XBLA and PSN early next year for 1200 MSP/$14.99 respectively. The stream is set to kick off at 10AM ET/7AM PT.Update: Capcom's live gameplay session is over. On a side note, the developers talked plenty about the potential for a future brand new Darkstalkers game, with comparisons to how Marvel vs. Capcom 2 came to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network before MvC 3 came out. If Darkstalkers Resurrection is anything resembling a hit, chances are 'Darkstalkers 4' is on.

Darkstalkers Resurrection may have only existed officially for a few minutes, but Capcom's fighting game guru Yoshinori Ono has bigger hopes for the franchise as a whole, which until today remained one of the few dormant forces in the modern fighting game renaissance."Ono has a dream of revitalizing the Darkstalkers franchise, and this is the first step to get there," Capcom producer Derek Neal of Capcom told Joystiq at the New York Comic Con. "[Ono] wants Darkstalkers 4."Capcom is using the release of Darkstalkers Resurrection as a litmus test to gauge the strength and fervor of the Darkstalkers community, says Neal. In the past, Ono has taken it upon himself to poll audiences directly, asking for attendees interested in a new Darkstalkers to hold up cash as proof of their commitment.

Capcom has just announced Darkstalkers Resurrection, an PSN/XBLA Darkstalkers collection expected to release early next year at $14.99/1,600 1,200 MS Points. The game, announced during a Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Panel at New York Comic Con, is under development at Iron Galaxy Studios and will bundle the arcade versions of Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge and Darkstalkers 3 together as a single downloadable title, ala Marvel vs. Capcom Origins. Both games will run on GGPO and will include the standard Ranked Match/Player Match online setup standard to Capcom re-releases. Replay sharing and YouTube functionality are also present, as are HD filters and a gallery of unlockable art assets and bonuses, including the work of Udon and custom artwork by Stanley Lao.When the time came to choose which Darkstalkers game would receive the HD treatment, the decision to release two games as a bundle was one of necessity, according to Capcom producer Derek Neal."We were agonizing over which to release," Neal told us shortly after the game's announcement. "They're the two most popular, fan-favorite games of the people who have played Darkstalkers way back when and loved it. There's a group that loves Darkstalkers 2 and a group that loves Darkstalkers 3."Eventually, Capcom concluded that the only way to keep everyone happy was to release both games as a double-pack.Update: Capcom has informed us that the XBLA price point of 1,600 MS Points listed in the press release after the break is incorrect, and that the game will in fact be available for 1,200 MS Points.%Gallery-168192%
