  • Bury the Shovelware: Deal or No Deal

To learn all there is about something, you sometimes need to go to the extremes. For shovelware, we are about to boldly trek into the eye of the storm. Deal or No Deal has the lowest aggregate score according to Metacritic, narrowly edging out Homie Rollerz. But we need to give it a fair chance. We can't succumb to the self-fulfilling prophecy. And besides, as a poster hanging in my high school English teacher's classroom profoundly stated, "what is right is not always popular, and what is popular is not always right." Indeed, just because one nerd hates Castlevania 2 doesn't mean you should automatically define it as a bad game. Okay, I can't fluff this anymore: Deal or No Deal for the DS isn't as crappy as you expected. It's crappier.

It's not often that a game goes on sale before it's even released, not that we're complaining. If you enjoy word games, then, you might want to consider picking up Wordmaster at Amazon. Although the MSRP is $19.99, Amazon is currently offering the game for $13.99, which is as budget as it gets for a new release. The title doesn't even come out until July 15th, but you can preorder now if you want to secure the game for cheap. As for what Wordmaster is? Well, think Lingo or Jotto, only on the DS. On a side note, you can also pick up Petz: Hamsterz 2 as Amazon's "Deal of the Day" for $11.99. • We didn't Order Up! this stale video

We really want to be charmed by Order Up!, but this gameplay video was more sleep inducing than a lecture on the merits of drying paint. We just can't help but feel a bit of a "been there, done that" vibe when it comes to this upcoming SuperVillain Studios title. The promise of restaurant management elements seem like the game's one saving grace, as it sets Order Up! apart from the Cooking Mamas and Diner Dashes of the world. We would have much rather preferred to see a gameplay video of how the sim stuff works. However, since the game did show some initial promise, we'll approach it with an open mind when it releases in late July.On a related note, Amazon and other retailers list a $39.99 price point for Order Up! Do you think that's still too high for the title, or does $40 hit your virtual restaurant-loving sweet spot? Gallery: Order Up!

  • Ditch the dictionary, become a Wordmaster

Anyone remember that old board game Mastermind? You would guess a sequence of colors a number of times until you find the right combination, thus making you a mastermind of colors -- always a good topic of conversation. That classic game is the inspiration for Wordmaster, a new DS title using letters instead of colors. Wordsmiths will unite when the game launches this month! You'll be decoding six-letter words by writing your guesses for each letter on the touch screen. Imagine the secret word is "winner". You'll need to enter letters at random, and automatic hints will tell you how many letters are correct. Difficulty can increase by reducing the number of guesses you can take per round, and if you don't correctly guess that the word is "winner", then you are a "loser."It might sound incredibly simple and/or lame, but let's not forget the thousands of people who sit there solving Sudoku puzzles all day. Those guys are the real winners.

  • More Phantom Hourglass commercials for Japan, nothing for us

Whether it's shields or mini-sites, we can't seem to stop torturing ourselves with Phantom Hourglass news. We're actually physically pained by the fact that Japan will be receiving the game as early as next week; meanwhile, we're still waiting for a US release date to be announced, wallowing in self-pity with nothing but Destination Software's Chicken Shoot to look forward to. We want to chase chickens into corners, carry them over our heads, or even slash at them with a sword until a flood of poultry pour into our screens to defend their friend -- not shoot at them! We cry fowl at Chicken Shoot!Nintendo's latest commercial for The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass depicts a young girl finding clues, taking notes, and counting Link's steps to unlock one of the game's many secrets. As you'll see past the post break, no chickens were harmed in the making of the video.%Gallery-3279%
