  • Ever wonder what would happen if you microwaved your iPhone?

There are a lot of ways to destroy an iPhone by accident: Dropping it on a hard surface from a good distance, letting it slip out of your breast pocket and into the toilet, or forgetting it on the roof of your car are all fine choices. But nobody has ever microwaved their iPhone on accident, but you can bet your life that there are plenty of people who have done it anyway. Here are the results: Here we have an iPhone 5 getting the old "microwave outdoors" treatment. This is how most of these types of videos are shot, and this particular iPhone has been through a lot of torture even before this "test" begins. This iPhone, which is the 3G/3GS plastic model, melts satisfyingly in a pool of flaming Apple lava. Some sparks and then a full-on firestorm. The fact that this one was shot in what appears to be a normal kitchen makes it even more disconcerting. An already dismantled iPhone 5 gets its various parts microwaved... for science. Lots of sparks and then a massive cloud of some toxic smoke that would surely mess up your lungs. Oh, and don't try any of this at home. If you have an iPhone you need to get rid of, there's a good chance you can score a few bucks for it somewhere out there.

  • Rumor: Retailers instructed to destroy Final Fantasy XIV stock

Is Square-Enix issuing a termination order for store copies of Final Fantasy XIV? That's the disturbing rumor that's emerged today, as a retailer on the NeoGaf forums posted an email stating that the company has decreed that stores rid themselves of the remaining stock. The email states, "Square is discontinuing Final Fantasy XIV. They will be doing a field destroy credit of $16.00 each." This move may be in preparation for the upcoming version 2.0 of the title, now called A Realm Reborn, which is slated to release for both PC and the PlayStation 3. A Realm Reborn will actually remove some of the content from FFXIV, possibly necessitating a new product. Square-Enix may also just be looking at rolling out a new package for the relaunched title. When asked about the rumor, the company declined to address the email and stated that the beta will happen later this year.

Iceberg Cam, Snowball Cam, Blizzard Cam and Drift Cam were the arctic photographer's best friends -- high-tech spy robot cameras designed to resist cold and traverse sub-zero terrain. Then they got crushed to death by giant polar bears while attempting to make friends. Seriously, that's the basic gist of Polar Bear: Spy on the Ice, a new BBC documentary which began airing last week, and which just so happens to be narrated by David Tennant. Hope he's got a screwdriver handy, if you know what we mean. Watch the bears play a spirited match of robot football after the break, then see all the lovely mechanical carnage in a third video at our source link.

Are you the guy that calls Google creepy? Do you find the company to be borderline evil in the way that it snoops on your local WiFi network, promotes online bullying, and steals your identity or iPhone OS? Is Google's Net Neutrality flip-flop after the Droid launched on Verizon the final straw? Ok, then here's your chance, hater -- prepare to unleash hell upon the very symbol of Google's new Chrome operating system. Hit up the source link below and describe to the lab tech exactly the kind of demise you think that Google's Cr-48 should meet. Go ahead, be creative: by gunfire, Canadian, or monkey, anything goes. Then do it again and again until the voices inside your head are deafened by Google's subtle marketing effort and an infinite ability to regenerate itself.

  • More iPad video torture: 64GB iPad 3G gets microwaved

It didn't take long for the iPad to get tortured, blended, and now, microwaved. Yes, in this YouTube video, a brand spankin' new 64GB iPad 3G is lovingly unwrapped, registered, and loaded with data, then popped into the Amir9000 for a journey into flaming oblivion. Just sad. And we're crying about it not just for you broke American friends who haven't gotten one yet, but for many of our international friends, who would pay a king's ransom just for a device like this. These purveyors of microwave-inflicted iPad violence will apparently be selling the cremains of the iPad on eBay soon, likely in an attempt to recover a bit of their investment. [via Crunchgear]

  • ioSafe Solo SSD plays with fire, gravity, and the pathway of a tractor

It's an inevitability, when a product claims to withstand Kryptonian strength, someone out there's gonna phone up the son of Jor-El himself for a trial run. Today's entrant is ioSafe's Solo SSD, which Extreme Tech took for a few rounds to determine its actual survivability. Spoiler alert: the SSD drive is still functional in the end, and it's really none too surprising when you realize the test site is run by ioSafe itself -- who else would have such an appropriate location handy? Still, the journey is what's interesting here, and there's plenty of pictures of incineration, falling, and drowning here -- and even a video of an intimate encounter with a tractor tread. Jigsaw would be proud. Video after the break.

I don't think this is anything I would have ever asked to see, personally, but now that it's here, I can't look away. Above, you can click through to see a NSFW (language) video of the star of stage and screen, Ice-T, doing some "repairs" on a broken PowerBook -- the kinds of "repairs" you can only do with a clawhammer. As he says in the video, "if any of you people out there really have a love affair with Macs, this'll be hard to watch." In Apple's defense, that Mac gives him quite a bit of trouble... until he really starts swinging the hammer.Ah, the Internet. Where else can you watch B-list celebrities destroy expensive electronic equipment? Everybody have a great weekend!

  • Beat Fallen Earth developers at their own game for sweet, sweet prizes

It's not very often that you get the chance to beat developers at their own game. It's even rarer when you get the chance to beat developers at their own game and win prizes for it. If you want our advice, take the Fallen Earth team up on their current beta contest -- Dev Hunt.Beta testers are going to get the chance to hunt down the Fallen Earth developers and kill them in-game for a shot at some nice prizes, including an Nvidia GTX 260 video card, Logitech G11 keyboard, Razer DeathAdder gaming mice, and Fallen Earth swag. If you're a beta tester, all you need to do is log into the Grand Canyon Province on August 8th at 12 PM EDT (GMT-4 for those who need time conversions) and start hunting a developer that's around your level. You get points for being logged in and points if you're present when a developer dies. The event will last until 3 PM EDT.Not a beta tester? Not to worry! Fill out the registration form and you can still get in on the developer destruction! Just make sure to register before August 6th, or no developer hunting for you!

For those that had no qualms kicking Teddy to the curb and cuddling with Asus' Eee PC throughout the night just as soon as it was released, you may want to utilize your scroll wheel right about now. For those with a tough stomach and a perverse appetite for destruction, you can most definitely stay put. In the video posted after the jump, the Eee PC is pushed from great heights onto solid floors, forced to sit in extreme temperatures and repeatedly prodded to see if it still functioned. Interested? You're just one click away from a clip sure to make gadget aficionados everywhere cringe.[Thanks, Roman]

  • Pentagon to shoot down renegade spy satellite

Good news, everyone! Remember that Alien-infested, out of control satellite we told you about a few weeks ago? Well, the US government has finally put together a plan to avoid the civilization-decimating disaster that would have resulted from its impact with Earth: they're gonna blow it up. That's right -- US officials have confirmed that they're going to use modified SM-3 missiles fired from a cruiser and destroyer off the Northwest coast of Hawaii to take the thing out. The weapons have additional fuel and new software which will allow them to reach the object in orbit, thus blasting it to smithereens. The resulting impact will leave nothing but "space junk," which will endlessly pollute the galaxy until we're wiped out by a reverse "Big Bang" or doomsday device. You may now return to your overpriced latté.

  • Will it freeze? i-mate JAQ takes a chilly beating

    04.18.2007

We won't say it's for certain just yet, but we've got a sneaking suspicion that the now-infamous Will It Blend series of destruction videos has created a monster. In a zany spinoff of the violent series, an i-mate JAQ is dealt a chilly beating as a presumably deranged individual ponders if it will "pass the freeze test." The snazzy smartphone was placed in frigid waters and then frozen block solid, only to be bashed repeatedly once it returned from the freezer. As with most of these cases, the JAQ didn't exactly perform admirably, and in fact, it failed to ever turn on again. So if you don't mind seeing perfectly good electronics go to waste, or you'd just like another bright idea to try yourself, be sure to hit the read link for the ominous video.

  • Horrible PSP abuse on display

YouTube is filled with people absolutely obsessed with destroying or wasting PSP systems. I guess wasting $150 is really popular with the kids these days ... especially those from the Czech Republic. A series of videos called PSP Destruction can be found on YouTube. These videos, from the "mind" of FaNitos, chronicle the adventures of masked hoodlums trying to destroy every PSP ever. They're already up to an eigth episode (shown above), showing more dedication to the system than most. What's their problem? At least D2Stemcell won't shell out real money to destroy a PSP. His solution? Do it virtually. While he isn't wasting money, he's wasting something far more valuable: time. Time that could be better spent, y'know, playing games?

  • Smash my PSP: katana claims victory over Sony handheld

While a bevy of gadgets have been laid to rest for 15 seconds of YouTube fame, Sony's PSP has somehow eluded the brutal beatings that the iPod, PlayStation 3, Wii, and other highly coveted gizmos have suffered. Unfortunately, the PlayStation Portable has now received the same off-kilter treatment as the electronics that have come (and gone) before, as a couple of rowdy youngsters with a faux katana laid the smack down on a helpless PSP. Interestingly, the device seemed to hold up fairly well to the bashing it took, but we can't help but wonder just how sharp the sword was that was used in this melee. Seriously, we know how bad you want a PSP2 to finally surface, but we promise that getting medieval on your current rendition won't encourage those Sony execs to move their plans along any faster. If you dare, click on through for the ruthless obliteration.[Via PSPFanboy]

When we saw via Game|Life that some IGN forums goers had taken steel wool to a Blu-ray disc with no apparent damage, we thought, "we can do better than that." So we gathered up some convenient implements of destruction and saw how our free copy of Talladega Nights would stand up to a ballpoint pen, a pizza cutter and a butcher's knife (unfortunately, the disc broke down before we could rub crunchy cereal all over it.) Check out the video below, and keep watching to the end for some pyrotechnic bonus footage.

  • Get your fix for wanton destruction come launch day

Americans, brutal creatures that we are, love to see things get the snot beat out of them. Just look at the daily entries on eBaums World, which routinely feature slightly insane teenagers destroying their own bodies or various pieces of physical property. Generally, though, that property is not a delicious piece of hotly-anticipated hardware.Come launch day, sadomasochistic website Smash My Wii will document the pointless destruction of a brand-new Nintendo Wii. They will camp out for inordinate amounts of time, be the first to pick it up, head outside and smash the living daylights of the thing in front of dozens of horribly confused fanboys. They did something similar with an Xbox 360, so you can check that out to see what to expect. Ridiculous.

  • More kids break PSPs. With firecrackers. And guns.

Kids these days enjoy blowing up stuff. YouTube is filled with kids pretending to be cool by destroying things that they bought with their parents' hard-earned money. Here are two videos that act as proof that Americans really aren't the brightest people in the world. The first video features a kid blowing up Gangs of London (with firecrackers). This is somewhat forgiveable, maybe even acceptable, considering how awful that game is.The second video truly frightens me. We've seen our share of PSPs being destroyed, but there's something truly hideous about the genuine glea these kids seem to be exhibiting. The video's after the cut, and features some harsh language.

  • Samsung considering legal action against X820 video

We're not quite sure what to make of this one. A video kicking around the so-called Internet lately (see picture) depicts a rather cheery woman fatally wounding a SGH-X820, and apparently Samsung has taken offense. They're claiming the phone was probably pre-damaged to make the phone seem unusually easy to destroy, but let's face it -- the phone's 6.9 millimeters don't afford a ton of protection against this kind of abuse. At any rate, Sammy's "conducting a probe" to hunt down the video's origin and is suggesting that a little courtroom action might be in order. The frightening lesson here, folks, is that if you want to break your phone, don't do it on camera.Update: The Korea Times is reporting that Motorola created the video but may have never intended for it to enter the public domain, citing YouTube's statement that the video's copyright belongs to Moto and has pulled the video as a result. It seems unlikely to us that Motorola would put together a video like this for internal use, particularly if the phone was pre-damaged as Samsung is suggesting -- but who knows? We love a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy.[Via textually.org]

Slow news day? You betcha! Today's video theme seems to be PSP abuse. I don't know about you, but I don't like buying a $200 piece of gadgetry and then destroying it for the sake of "entertainment." Didn't a group of Japanese kids do that a while back? Why is this entertaining? Why do people do this? I don't really understand, but at the very least, I have to give props to the people above for using explosives. To the kid below, you're not too cool.
