Awesome Play, the new studio from classic game icon and Mercury creator Archer Maclean, has just announced its first project: a futuristic Wii racing game called Speed Zone, scheduled for a "late May" release in North America. The boost-heavy racing game features solo tracks, multi-car races, and a battle mode in which "players can fry opponents with a lighting gun or shatter them with an overactive chain-gun complete with flying shells – not to mention a plethora of other weapons, including rockets, missiles, lasers, and mines." The really interesting thing about Speed Zone, however, is that Awesome Play has used the Wii's control options to work a little magic. Not only can the game support the Wiimote, Nunchuk, Classic Controller, and GameCube controller, it allows use of up to four of Logitech's Speed Force Wireless Wheels. And through the use of four Wiimotes and any four other connected controllers, it is possible for eight players to play simultaneously. In split-screen.The only clue to Speed Zone's appearance is a Flash banner at the top of Awesome Play's site, of which we've taken a screenshot.

We know what you're thinking: the Wii needs another minigame compilation! The latest in the line of "party games" is Party Crashers, which has a crash test dummy theme to it. Specifically, the game was inspired by Twelve Interactive's Cid the Dummy -- a multiplatform game that's not even out yet. Even worse, many of the games will have to be unlocked, and if you've ever played a party game with a "feature" like that before, we're sure you know how annoying it is.There'll be twenty-five minigames available in this title, which will range from puzzles to music-based games. To get an idea of what these will entail, some of the activities include "Pie in the Face," "Chinese Plates," "Dummy Cannonball," "Pizza Delivery," "Treasure Island," and "Dummy Dance." You won't be able to play such tantalizing-sounding minis until next April, though, since that's the planned release month.Even though we're labeling this as do not want, we're glad we had an excuse to listen to the Crash Test Dummies' "MMM MMM MMM MMM." We always find a silver lining!

Sure, Detn8's duck hunting game looks less-than-great, and the PC version garnered some very vehement ... well, we're hesitant to even call them reviews. Can videos of people laughing hysterically and mocking (whilst pointing) really be called reviews? Where's the line there? But speaking of wanton hilarity, this new Ultimate Duck Hunting video is somehow mesmerizing. We're pretty sure it's the music and the choppy, shouted commands. We got a kick out of it, and hope you will as well. Check it out after the jump.

We aren't sure if Ultimate Duck Hunting is truly the last duck hunting game we'll need. Our requirements for duck hunting games are stringent, you see, and it would take a truly robust and deep duck hunting game to fill the spot of the decisive duck hunting game in our collection. We wonder if the game will really be the authoritative work the title claims it will be.We're actually kidding about the stringent requirements, and like most people, we consider the duck hunting genre well and truly filled since 1985. Have a look at some screens and decide for yourself if you should update your library of duck hunting video games.
