The winners of RIFT's Concept Weapons and Cloaks contest were announced this weekend with prizes going out to the best designs in the Swords, Staves, and Cloaks categories. But one particular sword entry (the second place winner) caught the keen eye of a few RIFT fans. As it turns out, the impressive golden sword that won second place is actually copied from Deviant Art user Wen-M, who uploaded the original version in 2004. "LOL, thanks," Wen-M said when a fan congratulated him on his entry. "Unfortunately I did not enter, someone lacking honesty used my work without permission. some friends informed me about it. XD ah...people." You can read more on the other contest entries on the official forum thread. [Thanks to all who sent this in!] Update: Trion has responded with an explanation of its investigation of the accusations. In an email to Massively, the studio wrote, "Thanks to our users we were able to verify that this image was indeed appropriated from another artist. We of course disqualified the entry, and did a more thorough search to make sure that no other entries were also inappropriately submitted. We've reached out to the artist (who does absolutely amazing work, and is definitely worth checking out) both publicly and privately apologizing for this use of his art. We've adjusted the list of winners (viewable here), and congratulate all of the incredibly talented folks who participated in this contest." Congratulations to all of the legitimate winners!

Think you've got what it takes to design a starship? CCP Games and deviantART are giving you the opportunity to prove it with their new Create A Starship Contest for EVE Online. From now through October 13th, artists can submit their drawings for a chance to win some pretty significant prizes. Up to 15 semi-finalists will walk away with $50 iTunes gift cards, while first-, second-, and third-place finishers will snag $900, $750, and $500 respectively, in addition to an Apple iPad, a Wacom Intuos4 Tablet, deviantART premium memberships, and more. Additionally, the first-place winner will see his or her design brought to life in the universe of New Eden and ultimately flown by thousands of player pilots. Check out the full contest rules, as well as the current competition, at deviantART.

Do you want to share your PSP-related fan art? Send us an e-mail. A new piece of fan art will be shared every Friday. In honor of the truly excellent announcement regarding Sly Cooper hitting PSP, we have this fan art of the thieving raccoon himself. This lovely and moody piece was done by Neyla. It features Sly thieving across Paris, as the bright shine of a full moon glistens in the background. Neyla says that she was trying to capture the Japanese version of Sly, which is slightly redesigned. If this fan art makes you excited to get your crook on, visit Neyla's deviantART page. She has done plenty of other great game fan art besides, so browsing her gallery should interest you. Either that, or let Neyla know what you think of the art in our comments section. %Gallery-3450%

Do you want to share your PSP-related fan art? Send us an e-mail. A new piece of fan art will be shared every Friday. With Rondo of Blood on it's way to our fair system, I thought it was time for some Castlevania fan art. This amazingly drawn and beautifully colored piece comes from Candra. It features Rondo's hero Richter Belmont. I can't even begin to imagine how long it took Candra to put all the detail in this fan art. I personally think this work is a good mix between an anime style like the new Castlevania titles, while still retaining the gothic nature of the old art style. If this work inspires you to see more of Candra's work (and it should), go check out her deviantART account.%Gallery-3450%

Do you want to share your PSP-related fan art? Send us an e-mail. A new piece of fan art will be shared every Friday. Ready At Dawn has been in the news a lot lately, but most PSP gamers still love them for their work on Daxter. This week's art depicts the various qualities of our hero. Wennichelle created this work and I'm not sure I've ever seen Daxter depicted any cuter. If Daxter looks good (and he does) there's probably a reason. Wennichelle has done many Daxter fan arts prior and I actually had a difficult time picking which one I wanted to use. If you like Daxter and/or the art above, go check out Wennichelle's Deviant Art account for more. Thanks for making such great fan art Wennichelle! %Gallery-3450%

Do you want to share your PSP-related fan art? Send us an e-mail. A new piece of fan art will be shared every Friday. Last week I asked for PSP-tan fan art since the internet barely has any PSP-tan representations. Luckily, neyLa came through and created this cute (or should I say kawaii) version of PSP-tan. neyLa did a good job of retaining the visual elements of the PSP while still making an adorable girl. Maybe if Sony used this PSP-tan as a mascot, they'd be #1 in sales. If you enjoy neyLa's art like I do, go check out her Deviant Art account and let her know what you think or just leave feedback in our comments section. I'd love to see more PSP-tans in the future, but if you have any PSP-related fan art, just send it our way. %Gallery-3450%

Do you want to share your PSP-related fan art? Send us an e-mail. A new piece of fan art will be shared every Friday. I've got a jonesing for more cowbell, but even more than that, I want more fan art. Luckily it's Fan Art Friday, so my needs for one of the two will be satisfied. This week we take a look at a Tekken related fan art that depicts Kazuya dealing with Heihachi the only way someone can. Paolo Diego is the creator of this fine work. I could totally picture something like this actually happening in a Tekken game. If you dig the art like I do, go check out Paolo's deviant art account. I'd write more about the piece, but it's sorta a tall work and I want it to fit on the main page for all to see. Thanks for the art Paolo! Feel free to let him know what you think and see us back here next Friday! %Gallery-3450%

  • Slow down! Speed painting Halo 3 commercial

Not 24 hours have passed since the Halo 3 commercial has been released and already fan art has surfaced. Rahll over at deviantART created the above masterpiece in about an hour and a half after being inspired by last night's Halo 3 commercial airing. This is one of my favorite scenes from the commercial where Master Chief throws down the force field grenade and BLAM! ... it gives me a tingly stomach. So, for all you competitive artistic types, can you do better? I'm a big sucker for Halo inspired artwork, so if you're up to a challenge then get out your Crayolas and create some Halo 3 inspired artwork. And if you do a good job, I just might do a follow up and recap the best fanboy artists, there work and maybe even be some personal blog linkage. [Via Digg]
