To say Onimusha and Dino Crisis are on the back burner at Capcom could be an understatement. They're probably not even at Capcom and likely at the appliance store, sitting in the back playing cards, waiting to deliver the actual oven. In short: we haven't seen 'em and we're not sure when we will again. Capcom's VP of strategic planning and business development, Christian Svensson, provided IGN with some insight into Capcom's two franchises. You see, while earlier entries in those franchises were successful, later iterations weren't. According to the company, each provide their own set of challenges: Onimusha is a brand that resonates with Japanese audiences, but Capcom's pushing for more Westernized games right now, while Dino Crisis has the unfortunate problem of nobody at the company having "a burning desire" to "light that franchise back up again." One thing we would've liked to see Svennson discuss is DmC: Devil May Cry. Ninja Theory's reboot doesn't just have the future of that particular franchise riding on it, but could determine how other companies handle -- or don't handle -- revitalizing an older brand for a new audience.

Capcom is making good on its promise to release a ridiculous amount of PSP and PS1 titles on the PSN and has announced, via the PS Blog, the next batch of games that will be available to (re)purchase. Resident Evil fans won't be disappointed with the rest of the PS1 franchise entries making their way to the PSN, alongside Dino Crisis. PSP fans will also get their hands on seven titles, including two Mega Man games, two Capcom Classics collections, Darkstalkers and Power Stone Collection. It's a pretty good bunch of games and you can see the full list after the break. Other than Capcom Classics Remixed, which releases in America this week, none of the other games have been dated for any territory, nor even confirmed for European release. We've contacted Capcom Europe to ask, but release dates for the US will be revealed on the PlayStation Blog over time.

  • New PSOne downloads in Japan, new PSP firmware everywhere

Sony has dropped nine more PSOne games into Japan's PlayStation Store. The process is still tedious, the files still only playable on PSP (and only downloadable with a PlayStation 3). A new PSP firmware update (v3.03) is required to play the newest oldies; and although the update is available for all to install, it's useless to those outside of Japan -- or those in Japan without access to PS3's PlayStation Network. Here's a rundown of the PSOne games you won't be playing on your PSP today: Dino Crisis Gekitotsu Toma L'Arc: L'Arc-en-Ciel vs Tomarunner Global Force: Shin Sentou Kokka Migi Hadari U-SA Migi Hadari USA Mr. Driller R-Type Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure Taiyou no Shippo: Wild, Pure, Simple Life The Conveni: Anomachi o Dokusenseyo

  • More PSone titles... in Japan, at least

The dozen or so people that own both a PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP in Japan will be able to play new old PSone games tomorrow, using the newly released 3.03 firmware. The titles, all at a low price of 525 yen, include: R-TYPE Migi Hadari USA Tail of the Sun DINO CRISIS Global Force: Shin Sentou Kokka Gekisou Tomarunner Little Princess (Marl Kingdom) The Combini (Ano Machi o Dokusen seyo) Mister Driller Wasn't Mr. Driller supposed to be out at launch? I wonder what PSone games are heading over to the states (if any).[Via Games & Gadgets]
