Rise and Shiny: IMVU
I can see now what many of you might say about IMVU, especially after watching the embedded video. I know that many players will find the game, the world, and the virtual social connection nothing but an excuse for strangers to get together to talk dirty. As soon as I saw the game, I knew that it was trying to cover a few different bases, but I never worried about the appearance of virtual sex or sleazy creeps. Remember, I've been playing Second Life since 2004, and even that world is horribly misrepresented when someone says it's "nothing but virtual sex." That's simply not true. IMVU is a much more stripped-down social experience than Second Life, but it still holds its own. I actually found myself enjoying the heck out of certain aspects probably because I like a game to actually work as promised. IMVU runs in a browser-like environment but still looks respectable most of the time. I am as surprised as anyone that I had a darn good time.
Breakfast Topic: Do you collect non-combat armor?

Your gear plays a huge role in determining your character's combat abilities -- arguably even more than your level -- and high-level gear is often seen as a mark of skill, or at least experience. But there's a lot more than top-tier gear in Blizzard's data banks. Aside from older armor sets, the game is filled with wedding dresses, bloody aprons, monocles, tiaras, rolling pins, fairy wands, and chainmail bikinis. And who could forget the hodgepodge of Outland greens? The first piece of gear I ever saved in WoW was the Everglow Lantern. I kept it in my bank long after my baby druid outgrew its +3 spirit, just because I liked the way it looked. Then I started keeping odd pieces of neat-looking gear I came across, eventually dressing up my bank alt in the classic Tuxedo set and Diamond-Tipped Cane. Recently, I've graduated to collecting tier 1 while I work on my Hydraxian Waterlords reputation. It's not good for my bank space, but it sure is fun to complete an eight-piece set. More Angry Birds costumes (and a cake)
As requested, TUAW reader Amy sent us pictures of these homemade costumes designed to look like the characters in Angry Birds. You can browse through all of them in the gallery below -- again, I'm partial to the pig, but that bird looks pretty good as well. Reader Sheldon also dressed up as an Angry Bird, and included the legendary white iPhone with a screenshot on his costume -- twice the geeky references! And while it's not a costume, reader JT says he spotted this Angry Birds cake in Singapore. Never have the birds and their enemies looked so darn ... edible! Thanks to everybody who sent pictures in. I didn't see many Mac-related costumes out and about this weekend during Halloween. There were lots of video game and comic book characters walking around Hollywood last night, but no Steve Jobs or Newtons to be seen. Did you see any fun Apple costumes? Dressing up like something WoW-related for Halloween this year? Take a picture and send it to our tips line, because we'd love to see it! Whether you nabbed one of Blizzard's official costumes, worked a long time on a Tauren costume, or are just gluing some ears on and calling yourself a Night Elf, we'd love to take a look at what you're dressing up as, and we're sure our readers do, too. TurpsterVision: Battle of the Beards
Every Tuesday think "T" for Turpster and take the "a" in "day", capitalise it, remove the little bit in the middle, turn it upside down and you get a "V". Put the two together and you'll have TV for TurpsterVision -- the best Internet video podcast on Massively! (Never mind that business about it being the only video podcast on Massively...) I really hoped that I haven't peaked as an MMO reviewer, because this week's episode, complete with costumes and musical accompaniment, might be the best TV yet.This week our friendly co-lead blogger, Mike Schramm, punished me by having me review what many regard as an absolutely terrible game.With that said we invite you to join us after the break to see if Turpster can survive against such a title and hopefully answer the question on the lips of players around the world: Can Turpster really sing? I fear the answer to that question is no, but that doesn't stop him from trying!
