  • Bloom 'Box' Energy Server hands-on (literally) with video!

So here it is, the now-famous (that was fast) Bloom "Box" Energy Servers -- all five of 'em -- working their magic at eBay's north campus. Not much to look at, but we're happy to say it retains a low temperature -- the only heat we really found was due to direct exposure to the light -- and remains quiet while running. There are vents just underneath the sides where cool air was being pumped out. Of course, its raison d'etre is its ability to more efficiently deliver power, which is not something we can really test ourselves. Bloom Energy showcased a number of customers today -- FedEx, Walmart, Staples, Google, Coca-Cola, Bank of America, Cox, and of course, eBay -- and if the numbers meet their mark, you can color us mighty impressed. You know the drill: gallery below, quick video after the break! %Gallery-86437% %Gallery-86409%

Size matters folks. Those puny six inch Solid Snakes that came with Euro Limited Ed. MGS4s are not enough to satisfy. You need something big -- real big. Like, how about a six foot Solid Snake? That's sure to please. This retail promotional statue comes all the way from Italy and has a starting bid on eBay at around €1,990. It's a pretty steep price to pay, but that's what happens when you call yourself a collector. Even if you're not planning on bidding, check out the auction for more pics of this immortalization of one of the greatest videogame heroes.[Via GameSniped]

  • Back in the Day: A week of EBay, Karazhan and class QQ

What was going on in World of Warcraft this time last year? Back in the Day looks into the past of WoW Insider and brings back posts notable, controversial and sometimes humorous reflecting the state of the game one year ago this week. For the week of January 27 - February 2, 2007:The big news in the third week of TBC was E-bay's announcement: they de-listed all the gold sellers. Not that that stopped the black market for in-game gold sold for real life cash, but just today Blizzard struck another blow in the unending battle: they used the U.S. courts to shut out a major player in the gold selling industry from doing business on the Blizzard servers. The dance continues. On the official forums, there was a mixture of apprehension about how classes were falling into their new roles and speculation about the nature of the post-60 raid game. One article addressed both these issues when it brought together the concerns of the community about Karazhan. Complaints included trash mobs in the zone being too difficult, bosses being too tough on melee classes, Nightbane's fear unfair to Horde and itemization out of line with the difficulty of the encounter.Nowadays, the trash has been nerfed repeatedly, some bosses are still tough on melee classes, all Priests have Fear Ward, but a nerfed version making the Nightbane encounter difficult for both factions and the debate rages on whether itemization is good or not, but really, it depends on your class (hint: don't get a Priest started on the subject.)

We've posted crazy eBay auctions before, mostly concerning massive collections. This is a bit more unique.Extra Life's Scott Johnson has sketched his rendition of Mario on what we hope is a brand new toilet seat. Of course, the jokes regarding an Italian plumber (never seen on the job, mind you) immortalized on porcelain are far too many. Johnson is putting the seat on eBay; the proceeds go to the charitable cause of himself -- specifically, he's putting it towards Photoshop CS3. Current bid is $72 and the minimum for Photoshop is $199 for the basic CS3 upgrade. The time lapse of his creation, featured on Extra Life TV #9 , is embedded after break.

  • EBGames is watching your PS3 E-Bay auctions...

All right, let's sum up the quote before we toss it on here: essentially, if you bought your PS3 from EBGames or Gamestop, be careful about putting it up on e-Bay. They're watching for those receipts that are mandatory to be placed up as the picture and cancelling your auction. Here's the quote from Evil Avatar:"Today during a conference call, managers of EB Games stores in Canada were told that a list is being made of all pre-orders for Playstation 3's that have been posted for sale on eBay. Lists will be distributed to individual stores and all pre-orders that have appeared on eBay will be canceled by EB in the very near future. According to the information I've been given, this is a joint initiative between EB Games, Sony and eBay. eBay's new policy regarding pre-order sales has made this possible by requiring that all pre-order listings include a photo of the receipt."Basically, be careful if you plan to do this money-making scheme of sorts. If you pre-ordered elsewhere, knock yourself out -- all it means is that you'll probably get higher bids because there will be a lot less auctions.

  • eBay gets strict with PS3 / Wii listings

Online auction house eBay has made a policy clarification regarding the PS3 and Wii pre-orders, so as not to have the same problems that occurred with the Xbox 360 launch (it almost did). Only experienced eBay sellers (with at least 50 feedback and 98% positive rating) can place a PS3 or Wii console for auction before launch, only one console per account, the picture must be of your pre-order receipt, and you can not set a "Buy it Now" option.Reasons why we love this: It discourages fake listings and encourages fulfilled orders. Desperate gamers who are willing to spend thousands of dollars for an early PS3 can still do so. Kudos to eBay for setting up guidelines to handle the impending console launch fiasco.See Also:eBay's PS3/Wii auction cancellations are a good move
