WoW Moviewatch: Bring Back The Con
We've all heard the news by now: no BlizzCon 2012. For various reasons, Blizzard is eschewing the convention in favor of focusing on other priorities this year. While that's perfectly reasonable in most respects, missing out on BlizzCon is a bummer to plenty of fans. There's no way a big announcement like that could go by without some community discussion. Elysiam opted to lament the loss of BlizzCon in song with Bring Back The Con. I originally expected this video to be a webcam-fest, but I was pleasantly wrong. The musical performance is surprisingly strong, and the video does a great job evoking the feel a previous BlizzCons. WoW Moviewatch: Power Cataclysm remix
This is a parody of Kanye West's Power. It seems like a send-up motivation for the guild Elysiam to help them get ready for Cataclysm. If you're familiar with the original song by Kanye West, then you will probably recognize most of the lyrics in this parody. Kayhettin did a good job of parody Kanye's original vocal style, even tailoring it a bit toward the kind of voice acting you hear in WoW. The challenge with this kind of video is that it plays off the original video. While I'm not a Kanye West fan normally, the original video for Power is actually kind of amazing. It was highly stylized, beautiful to watch, and chock full of symbols and allegory. It's so good that I had challenges ignoring my knowledge of the original while watching this parody. It's up to each viewer to decide whether the parody is a success, but I couldn't stop thinking about Power's actual video. Interested in the wide world of machinima?
