Microsoft has recent price drops and an aggressive marketing campaign to thank for its latest success in Europe, with Xbox 360 sales surging past 7 million in the region. The system previously reached the six-million milestone in September. The veep of strategic marketing for Xbox in EMEA, David Gosen, seemed pleased with the results and used the word "fantastic" a lot. "We're in a position now where we've sold over seven million consoles in EMEA, which puts us in a fantastic place versus PlayStation 3," he told MCV. It's the combination of elements that put us in a fantastically strong position. We have 360 degrees of entertainment. At the moment, momentum is fantastic, we've got real traction in all European market."Gosen went on the extend his confidence to the forthcoming holiday period, predicting it to be "the best ever Christmas in the history of Xbox." So, pretty fantastic then.

Busy times for the people over at Motorola, as new cells seems to be dropping at all the majors lately. Yesterday's announcement featured news that Moto's femtocell end to end testing is complete and that the trials are now set to begin. Femtocells, once called Access Point Base Stations are said to be set to turn the 3G world on its ear with improved access and better pricing -- we''ll believe that when we see it, at least the pricing bit -- while in areas covered by them. From a provider's point of view costs are reduced by having a simplified -- in an UMTS installation, the Node-B, RNC, and GSN -- in one package using wired broadband for connectivity. We'd love to be in on the testing, but it seems that honor has been reserved for a "major European operator" and not for the team at Engadget Mobile.

Nary a month after Mark Shuttleworth proclaimed that we'd all be seeing a few more Linux-based Dells in the not-too-distant future, Dell has officially announced plans to offer certain pre-fabricated desktops and laptops to those in Europe and China. Initially, the Inspiron 6400n lappie and Inspiron 530n desktop will be available to customers in the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, and it was also stated that "Dell and Novell intend to offer SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 factory-installed on select consumer [machines] in China." The expansion of Linux-equipped machines into international markets came after the outfit reportedly "received many requests from customers all over the world to offer Linux" in their neck of the woods, and while the Chinese will still be waiting a bit to get their orders in, those in Europe can snag an Ubuntu-packed 6400n for around £329 ($665) or 530n for £399 ($806) right now.[Via Direct2Dell]
