With only a few weeks to go until the launch of Dominion, the EVE Online team has got to be pretty busy. CrazyKinux was lucky enough to get a bit of time with Game Designer Eris Discordia to talk about the details of the NPE - New Player Experience. The discussion covered some interesting ground, such as how CCP is working to keep the NPE easy for players to use and understand, how far it's come since 2003 ("You started in space and you had to shoot a drone and that was pretty much it."), and how they would like to see it improve from here on out. They also talked about the reasoning behind the way the NPE is set up, as a crash course designed to get you through the basics and into the game, rather than a more scattered, drawn-out approach. It's an interesting read for any veteran EVE Online player, and a valuable one for anyone new to the game. The full interview can be read here, and a big thanks to CrazyKinux and Eris Discordia for taking the time for it!

  • EVE Fan Fest 2007 videos - Make your weekend an EVE-flix one

How would you best describe the EVE Online 2007 Fan Fest? I'd say it was filled with players that talked about ships, consumed copious amounts of alcohol alongside the developers, drooled over the Trinity II expansion, drank more alcohol, some pew-pew and a few bruised hairy man boobs egos afterwards, and it all went down in Iceland. I'll sum it up as a frozen mixture of freakishly-EVE debauchery. I'm still bummed, no "mozom" Fan Fest action for me this year; not that I would want my corporation to obtain proof I mingled with some hostiles, and later use said evidence to black mail me as a spy unless I paid a lofty 25 billion space-bux fine. Thankfully, for those of us not in attendance or those wanting to relive the panel discussions, CCP came through on their earlier promise to feature full-length videos from this year's EVE Online Fan Fest. Currently, 12 videos are up for viewing, and length times vary, some go for 20 minutes and others that last a little longer than 60 minutes. It doesn't cost a dime to watch them either. If you are too lazy to click over and to see the EVE-TV guide, I have you covered with the line-up below. If you would rather read coverage from the Fan Fest, I recently updated the ultimate EVE Online Fan Fest link wrap-up with a few more links. Day 1: EVE History; Oveur on Trinity Expansion; Hilmar on World Domination; CCP Panel, Dev Q&A Session Day 2: Council of Stellar Management; Alliance Panel Discussion; Dr EyjoG on EVE's economics; Ambulation Info Day 3: Tuxford on the development and history behind the in-game ability Heat; How to PvP like an expert with Eris Discordia; Pann gives tips on running an EVE fansite; Tony G discusses his work on the EVE Novel

  • Discordianism + Wii = Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy

Discordianism can be explained most simply as "a religion disguised as a joke disguised as a religion," or, religion for hippies. Followers of Discordianism greet each other with animal sounds, can only eat hot dog buns on Friday and hail the Greek goddess Eris. Eris is known to constantly brew chaos. Such is why she is the divine image of Discordianism. In their eyes, she is ever present and frequents bar where Zeus makes her drinks. Not only will you find her running amuck in the everyday life of her followers, she can also be found doing her normal chaos causing thing in The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Whether it is dropping buckets of water on Mandy's head or summoning mind-controlling Teddy Bears, she always finds a way to make things worse. Lucky for us, she is bringing her chaotic ways to the Wii. Wielding her Apple of Discord, who knows what trouble she will cause you. By the look of the image after the break, it could be quite a bit. Check out the screenshot after the break. You can see the chaos in her eyes ....
