While Pokémon Go was a big step forward for AR in gaming, it appears that Niantic, the studio behind the game, has grander ambitions. This week, the company announced the acquisition of Escher Reality, which focuses on "persistent, cross platform, multi-user experiences," according to the release.

Hosted by Rezzable Productions in Second Life in conjunction with NPIRL, the garden is an art show, with over a hundred content creators. It has art over four simulators, and up to 3,000 metres above the sims. Some of the creators have provided freebies -- such as free avatars. Light Waves has produced a puzzle -- a hidden sculpture; there's live concerts and DJs playing throughout; a sandbox with tutorials and a building mash-up and more. To see everything here could take you quite a while. It's running until 23 June, which doesn't leave you a lot of time. %Gallery-24584%

  • Slap some Escher, Kandinsky, or van Gogh on your DS

Opinions on DS skins are quite evenly divided around these parts, but GelaSkins' latest range may influence a few of you naysayers. Having formerly specialized in producing extra layers for iPods and laptops, the company has turned its attention to Nintendo's ubiquitous handheld, by offering a range of 57 skins featuring prints by a wide array of artists. The selection on offer is pleasingly diverse, featuring both classic works from the likes of Kandinsky, Hokusai, Escher, and van Gogh, as well as pieces from a number of (largely lesser-known -- well, by us ignoramuses, anyway) modern artists. If you think any of the nine above are too gaudy for your tastes (though we personally love "Red Robot Leaving The City" by ExplodingDog), then check out our gallery for the full line-up. These aren't cheap at $20 a pop, but they're unquestionably unique, and if you buy three skins, you'll get a fourth free. Any of you anti-skin types converted by these?%Gallery-20794%

For today, I thought I'd show off a screen I snapped some time back. You see, for all the time many of WoW players spend in Karazhan, generally there's very little time to look around. I just happened to accidentally knock the mouse around at the correct moment, and noticed this bit of MC Escher/Labyrinth inspired backdrop. And yes, that's my beloved Troll Rogue with a mohawk (not to be confused with a Night Elf Mohawk) front and center. It just goes to show you that no matter how much time you've spent in a place, there's sometimes still more to see. One Shots lives on a steady diet of your screenshots! Snapped a good screenshot lately? Tired of seeing the same old games featured? Send us shots from your favorite game! It's easy to be part of the fun -- just send your screenshots and stories to oneshots@massively.com. Yours could be up here next! %Gallery-9798%

  • DS as tour guide

Not for the first time, the DS is helping out at museums in Japan by offering patrons a chance to hold fine art in their hands. This time, visitors to the M.C. Escher show at Shibuya's Bunkamura entertainment complex were handed customized DS Lites that offered interactive content only a touch away. The DS content included floor maps, audio tours, and actual reproductions of the artworks themselves, so that patrons could zoom in for the fine details. Escher's unusual works probably don't need any help when it comes to being interesting, but the inclusion of a DS would certainly make any art exhibit more fun -- and more personalized, which is something trips to the museum often lack.
