  • Replace your Wiimote's face

Stephen at Aeropause was browsing eBay, as people tend to do when they want to get into wallet-crushing trouble, and found a cool new mod for Wiimotes. A Chinese company called Shenzhen GC Electronics Co. is producing replacement faceplates for the Wiimote, with extra buttons and everything. You just take out the screws, pull the face off and replace. And to make this operation as simple as possible, each faceplate includes the required Tri-Wing screwdriver (which also lets you open up pretty much any Nintendo product.)Given the frequent difficulties with eBay sellers based in China or Hong Kong, we'd buy this from a retailer, through which you could probably get some kind of buyer protection. We don't know anything about T-Move or Coolmods, but they both come recommended by Acidmods users, at least one of whom actually has the product (in a sharp black, too). It's a brilliantly simple mod that has little chance of ruining your controller, so we're giving it some thought.

Although we knew Toshiba's 815T would soon be joining the Softbank Mobile team, the firm has finally got official on the customizable handset, and there's even pictures to prove it. Among the features are a 2.4-inch QVGA internal LCD, a 0.8-inch external OLED, two-megapixel camera, W-CDMA connectivity, microSD expansion slot, and of course, a slew of different skins and covers to liven it up. Reportedly, this here mobile is set to go on sale next week, but feel free to take a look at your options beforehand by following on after the jump.[Via Slashphone]

  • Red Octane's new wireless guitars, but what's Xbox 360's extra cost?

Red Octane showed us their new wireless controllers coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii with the release of Guitar Hero III this fall. The Wii version (seen above), allows you to put your Wiimote into it via a flap in the back. There is no word yet on why you would need to do this, if it's only to activate "star power" it just seems a little superfluous. The rest of the controllers look fine and the buttons are in the perfect place so you don't "pull a Peter Moore" in GH III like you would in Rock Band. In all fairness, Harmonix is already planning a software fix so gamers don't do the same thing as Moore. The best part about the new guitars is that you can take the guitar's neck off of the body by toggling a switch in the back and pulling. They wouldn't let us take pictures of this and they had none available. The new separation feature makes storage and travel easier, it also opens up the option for different types of necks. Also, there were an assortment of quality plastic faceplates which snap onto the guitar and come off easily by pressing an eject button on the back. Because all the faceplates were "prototypes" we couldn't take pictures of those either. Anyway, the new Red Octane guitars look and feel really good. Oh, and they moved the Xbox's guide button and d-pad higher up the guitar's body to get it out of your wrist's way. They also put the select (back) button within pinky length of the fret to activate star power by easily moving a finger instead of jarring the guitar. The redesign really looks great. The weird news was Red Octane's cagey attitude towards pricing between systems, the same thing we experienced with Harmonix about Rock Band. Following Rock Band's unconfirmed price difference between Xbox 360 and PS3 wireless guitars, it looks like Red Octane hasn't made a decision regarding their pricing of the Xbox 360 controller either. Will they charge more for the licensing fee attached to using Microsoft's proprietary wireless? And what is the extra cost? They will supposedly get back to us as soon an answer can be authorized. Yeah, this Microsoft wireless drama is just ridiculous, especially if it forces the peripheral manufacturers to punish the consumers for Microsoft's greed.

That overly cool gaming chick bs angel purchased and just received one of he most girly Spartan faceplates we've ever seen. Really, this custom faceplate was painted by artist Pavel Dolgov and is a girly girl's dream featuring a pink Spartan, a fluffy teddy bear, a few hearts and a rainbow. We can't think of anything cooler than this and are willing to go as far as to say that it's the uber hotness. You can read about the pink faceplate's entire creation process over at bs angel's blog (part 1, part 2, part 3). Full size faceplate picture viewable after the break.

We've learned over time here at X3F that 360 owners really dig arts and crafts. They like getting their hands dirty. They build monster joysticks, add water cooling, and create custom paint jobs all for their beloved Xbox. Today's submission is of third variety, showing off a custom flame paint job. Coming to us from 360 Fanboy reader, H3RP35, the faceplate looks like it belongs on the side of a hot rod, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. To paraphrase Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, "It's like my 360's tearing ass around the living room, but it's standing still. Still waters run deep."We're always interested in user created mods. If you've got one you'd like to share, let us know.

Think you can make a better faceplate than the people of Camy? They want you to prove yourself, as they're holding a contest to find the next Camy design. The winner will get four faceplates featuring their design (because y'know, we like to buy more than one?). But, you won't get any royalties. Hrm.If you're still willing to partake in this contest, and don't mind feeling a bit snubbed for your efforts, head over to Acid Mods for the full details.[Thanks, grandpasmurf!]

If you are going to be purchasing Crackdown this Tuesday, then you may want to head over to your local Circuit City. Since Crackdown comes with the Halo 3 beta invite, Circuit City is offering a free Halo faceplate (a $20 value) with the purchase of Crackdown. Free stuff always makes us happy, especially free Halo merchandise. And speaking of which, shouldn't it be a mandate that every new Xbox 360 game release has to include a free faceplate? It's a great idea and something we'll be pitching to Microsoft and their lovely marketing team.

  • CAMY introduces "dual injection" faceplates

Remember how sweet-looking those Signature series PSPs were? Well, CAMY is offering you a cheaper alternative: faceplates that use their "dual injection" technique. Don't start rolling up your sleeves, though. According to their website, "CAMY PRO GEAR™ faceplates are actually created using two individual layers, the colour layer and the clear outer layer, just like the official SONY PSP™ stock faceplate."Theoretically, this is supposed to make installation easier ... which is much appreciated, considering how much trouble I had installing the invisibleSHIELD many months ago.

  • Sony PSP faceplates add color to US units

Nevermind all those PSP2 rumors swirling about, as the real beef all you PSP owners (at least, one's that don't demolish them for fun) have with Sony is the lack of colored units here on American soil. Apparently, someone finally figured out that blessing foreign lands with a rainbow-like assortment of PSP colors wasn't exactly fair to us North Americans, and now we're seeing blue and silver Sony faceplates pop up for those who don't mind a bit of DIY action. So if you're yearning to get a dash of color on your current PlayStation Portable, and aren't too keen on dropping 35 large, you can snag either blue or silver right now for $28.50 apiece.[Via PSPFanboy]

For about $30, you can rip apart your PSP and install some new official Sony PSP faceplates. It may not be cheap, but it's far more affordable than outright buying a new import PSP. New colors, such as Silver and Metallic Blue (it's so shiny!) are available for your consumption. Considering how SCEA seems to think that we're satisfied with having simply one color (black) in the market, this might be the best option for you to add a little color to your PSP gaming.[Via PSP GadgetZ]See also:Up close with the metallic blue PSP

  • Furry 360 faceplate is ... furry

Xbox-Scene got some pictures of Talismoon's new upcoming furry faceplates. Just like their furry controller sisters, the faceplate comes in leopard and sexy cow print. I'm thinking these will be more user friendly then the furry controller's (sweat + germs = disgusting fur controller), but I'm not overly sure these have that "cool" factor. And I love the disclaimer that reads: "Synthetic fur, please note no animals were hurt in the production of the 'evolve Wild Jungle' edition faceplates". You're not buying these ... are you?[Thanks, GP2S]

Have you ever looked down at your 360 controller and thought to yourself, "Self, this controller just isn't tacky enough. I really need it to blend well with my purple velvet couch." If so, then you are in luck, because a company named Evolve is bringing animal prints to your Xbox. But wait, there's more: not only does the controller skin provide you with eye candy, it also has a soft "like fur" feel to it. If you've been wanting some cuddly time with your controllers, this is your chance. Better still, in addition to the leopard print there is also a cow skin pattern. All you need is some steer horns on your 360 and you've got a theme, partner! In all seriousness, we've seen some strange 360 modifications, but this takes the cake. Anyone out there seen any more crazy mods they'd like to share? Send us a tip and we'll post it right here.[Thanks, jake]
