Favi's Android-packing SmartStick finally shipping to give any HDMI-equipped TV a brain
If you've been hearing "SmartTV" this and "SmartTV" that while your old HD panel just sits there like a big dummy, Favi's SmartStick is ready (at last) to bring it into the 12's. Like Roku's Streaming Stick, it's a media player that's been squeezed into a dongle-sized form-factor, running Android 4.1 and packing apps like Netflix along with the Plex media server, a full web browser and DLNA. It'll stream all that media through the HDMI port on your TV and connect to your other devices wirelessly, all for the sum of $50. You can even add a $40 wireless keyboard to avoid the usual finger calisthenics -- check the PR after the break to grab it.

Why get a Smart TV when you can enhance your existing HDTV with a dongle? That's the precise inquiry FAVI is aiming to answer with its SmartStick, a device that lets you access streaming movies, music, apps, and games just by plugging it into your television's HDMI port. It runs Jelly Bean, the latest Android OS, and supports services like Netflix, Hulu, Epix, YouTube, and Pandora. Other features include a full internet browser, 4GB of memory, and the ability to wirelessly stream media from your computer via its MediaSHARE app. Since it runs Android, you can download apps from the Google Play store as well. While we're still fans of the Roku Streaming Stick, the SmartStick's $50 price tag is hard to beat. You can also get a mini wireless keyboard and touchpad mouse for $39.99 for easier navigation. Favi RIOLED-Q and RIOLED-V pico projectors launched: the future is bright, wireless
Looks like the world's still got appetite for some more pico projectors, as Favi's releasing a pair some time between late February and early March for prices yet unknown. First is the RIOLED-Q (pictured) which sports a pretty 800 x 600 native resolution at 50 lumens -- supposedly the best brightness in class (like the Optoma PK301), along with built-in SD / MMC card reader, battery, three-watt stereo speaker and an ever-so-handy digital keystone correction. Joining the party is the smaller RIOLED-V which is shy about its display specification, but proudly packs a card reader and WiFi to cater its various web apps for YouTube, Flickr, Picasa, Yahoo News, Weather, Email, Internet Radio and web browser. Favi's PJM-1000 pico projector - it projects things, baby
What can we say? The new FAVI PJM-1000 pico projector is a mere 4.4 x 1.9 x 0.6-inch beauty, weights about 180g, and sports manual zoom, focus, and video and VGA inputs. This guy will project the business with a 4:3 aspect ratio, a native 640 x 480 resolution (1280 x 800 max), 80:1 contrast ratio, and 12 lumens power. The max image size is 100-inches, and the max projection distance is 12 feet. Do you feel the overwhelming urge to project things onto walls?
