As I made my way into the Metrograph movie theater in New York City, I felt like I was attending a screening for the Tribeca Film Festival. There was a red carpet, people posing for professional photographers, an official film guide and, of course, drinks and popcorn. This isn't quite what I expected when I learned I'd be attending Giphy's first Film Fest. If that name sounds like an oxymoron, the event was a showcase of 118 videos of 18 seconds or less from five different categories: narrative, animated, stop-motion, experimental and wild card. Considering that most of my GIF consumption happens on a laptop or phone, I wasn't expecting this big a to-do.

Among all the titles that Cannes is screening at this year's film festival, five aren't like the rest. They're Amazon movies, see, and Cannes is known for refusing to showcase films made for screens smaller than a cinema's. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon will release the festival's opener, Woody Allen's Cafe Society, in the US. It also has rights to three films vying for Palme d'Or, namely The Neon Demon by Nicolas Winding Refn, Paterson by Jim Jarmusch and The Handmaiden by Park Chan-wook, who also directed Oldboy. The fifth title is Jarmusch's Gimme Danger, which documents the life and music of Iggy Pop.

So glad you could join us Mr. Bond.Oh James Bond. How you have a cult following and we are guessing that a big portion of our readers are part of it; the three of us are. The classic spy films can always be found on some random TV station but VOOM's FILMFEST is running all 17 of them in June. Best of all the movies will be uncut and commercial free too. The only issue we can see is that for some odd reason David Hasselhoff is going to be the host.
