Flickr outs new Uploadr feature for image uploads: HTML5-based, drag-and-drop UI
If you'll recall, it was only a few weeks ago when Flickr announced Aviary was replacing the vanished Picnik as the main photo-editing tool on the site. Now, continuing its ongoing makeover, the Yahoo-owned image hosting service is introducing yet another feature. Uploadr, as it's very cleverly dubbed, is an HTML5 web apparatus, which Flickr says will make for a "completely new uploading experience." There's a few major attributes Uploadr brings to the table, including improvements in the speed department, a drag-and-drop UI and bigger file size limits for paid and free users. Flickr notes that folks will now see a boost in uploading speeds of up to 30 percent, while "some" international users may see a spike of somewhere between 50-60 percent. As for file sizes, the limits have been bumped to 50MB for Pro hogs and 30MB for those enjoying the freebies. Uploadr's set to be rolling out over the "next couple of weeks," and is currently offering browser support for Chrome, Safari and Firefox.
Flickr Uploadr v3 released
A while back Mike mentioned the beta release of the stand-alone Flickr Uploadr and now the Flickr folks have announced the official release. Flickr Uploadr allows you to tag, describe, and organize your photos locally before uploading them to the online photo service. The signature new feature of version 3 allows reordering of your photos before uploading just by dragging them around. Version 3 also lets you work offline, and once you start the actual upload you can start adding and tagging new photos even before the first batch is finished uploading.Flickr Uploadr version 3.0 is a free download from Flickr.com.
Flickr Uploadr v3 beta is out
There are plenty of ways to get pictures from your Mac up to Flickr; among them the 'official' and free tool, Flickr Uploadr, which is now being revised to version 3. The second beta version of v3 is out for download. This uploader is an open-source project, so anyone interested in the source code can download that along with the compiled app.New in v3 of the uploader tool is the capability of tagging, sorting and setting permissions on multiple photos prior to the upload to Flickr, along with a preflight resize to reduce data transfer and help keep you under your upload threshold. The beta currently has a menu display problem under Leopard but seems to be otherwise functional and speedy (Christina noted that it's dramatically faster than the web-based upload tool). You are all familiar with Flickr, Yahoo!'s photo sharing site, I assume. Flickr provides Mac users with a free utility to upload, tag, and group photos called Flickr Uploadr. Sadly for Intel Mac users it wasn't a Universal Binary, but the wait is over.
