[Arcade-History] Final Fight: Double Impact hits download services this week, with the side-scrolling fantasy action game Magic Sword as the delicious second course in the Final Fight meal. Lest you be satisfied with those two games, Capcom design director Kraig Kujawa revealed two more games that were considered for the pack: the 1987 action game Black Tiger, and the horizontal shmup Forgotten Worlds. In the tweet, Kujawa said these two were the "other games ... considered for Final Fight: Double Impact second billing," suggesting that the plan was for two total games all along. That means that we don't have to cry as we imagine the four-game pack Double Impact that almost was, and instead we can concentrate on our delight with Magic Sword.

  • VC Friday: A question of value

This week's PAL Virtual Console line-up isn't short on quality, but it represents fairly awful value. As dreamy as we find any Metal Slug title, there are cheaper ways to play all three of this week's offerings. Want Metal Slug 2? We'd recommend picking up this. Fancy having your delicate gamer's ego rudely kicked in by Forgotten Worlds? There's an excellent compilation out there for a bunch of platforms that costs peanuts and comes with another 20 or so games. If you can't find Space Invaders for less than £6/€8, you're probably reading the wrong website. Better still: lavish those points on Space Invaders Get Even!. Metal Slug 2 -- Neo Geo -- 900 Wii Points Space Invaders: The Original Game -- SNES -- 800 Wii Points Forgotten Worlds -- Mega Drive -- 800 Wii Points See videos of all three (including footage of one David Hinkle showing off his skillz at Space Invaders and Forgotten Worlds) after the break.

Oh, what, you thought you were off the hook this week? No way, as we're here with our latest VC Monday Madness video. Late, but here nonetheless. This week, we've got two different games to download on the Virtual Console, so hit up the video above and then cruise past the break for the rest.

  • Rumor Roundup: LittleBigPlanet PSP in 2009 and more from December's EGM

Another day, another hint at LittleBigPlanet coming to PSP. The latest rumor mongering comes from EGM (via NeoGAF), whose December issue suggests a PSP version will debut in 2009 -- supposedly, it'll be "fantastically ambitious and will further flesh out the PS3 LBP experience." What it won't have, it seems, is Media Molecule at the helm, as the developer is rumored to be working on an online RPG (in addition to a LBP sequel?). Previous mutterings pointed the finger at Sony's Studio Liverpool (WipEout Pulse) being the developer.Other juicy gossip from the 'zine: Square Enix has quietly canceled Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (gasp!), Capcom is bringing 1980s side-scrolling shooter Forgotten Worlds to Xbox Live and PlayStation Network (more gasps!) and Silicon Knight's unannounced Sega title is now looking for a new publisher. December's EGM should soon be on newsstands everywhere. Update: As noted in the comments section (thanks ... Fer-nan-do), Square Enix has released a statement denying the cancellation of Crystal Bearer. The publisher "has every intention of releasing it" but no date is currently known.

  • VC Tuesday: More like VC Wednesday

No VC or WiiWare games are being released in Japan today, probably because of the Shuubun no Hi holiday. They'll be out tomorrow instead. But since the releases have all been scheduled, we'll go ahead and lay them out now.Three games get the "Super Dodge Ball treatment" -- our unofficial term for the phenomenon of a game being completely ignored because it isn't Mega Man 9, regardless of quality. For games like the adorable Wagyan Land, a platformer about a little monster who attacks by yelling "wa," "gya," and "da," and Capcom's Forgotten Worlds, this is a shame. For the PC Engine port of The Ninjawarriors, not so much. Wagyan Land (Famicom, 1 player, 500 Wii Points) Forgotten Worlds (Mega Drive, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points) The Ninjawarriors (PC Engine, 1 player, 600 Wii Points) As for WiiWare, well ... it's two days after the American release, but after ten years, two more days is hardly any wait for Rockman 9.
