Sometimes, we like to think of XBLA in Brief as a public service. We get to tell people about the good games on Xbox Live Arcade like Commando 3, and, perhaps more importantly, warning them about bad games like Frogger 2. We won't go into details here (that's what the video is for, silly!), but suffice it to say that Commando 3 is decent and Frogger 2 ... isn't. Now available on the Xbox Live Arcade comes Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 from Capcom and Frogger 2 from Konami--each priced at 800 MS Points. The token, weekly, omni-directional shooter WotB: Commando 3 drops three selectable characters behind enemy lines tasked with saving prisoners of war and blowing up everything in sight. A reminder to potential buyers, purchasing WotB: Commando 3 also includes future access to the beta test for Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.Frogger 2 adds a much needed story mode to the classic hopping adventure that tackles such hot-button issues as high gas prices, world economy and wart control. At least part of the previous sentence is not accurate. Gallery: Frogger 2 Gallery: Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3

Confirming half of what we already knew, Gamerscore Blog dropped the news on this week's Xbox Live Arcade titles in an official press release this morning. Having already been confirmed by Capcom, shoot-em-up Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 will hit the Arcade, complete with Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix beta access for purchasers, for 800 MS Points. Microsoft's internal blog also announced that Frogger 2 will be available Xbox Live Arcade for 800 MS Points. An interesting pair to say the least. Check them out when they land online this Wednesday morning.

Xbox Live Arcade, ever the service to indulge the inner omni-directional shooter fan we all obviously have, is getting another dose of run-one-direction-while-shooting-in-another this week – with an extra-special added bonus. Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 (800 MS points) is just one of several Capcom retro resurrections hitting Live this year and provides a highly stylized new take (with three-player coop) on the arcade classics Commando and Mercs. Of course, that added bonus we spoke of is a "golden ticket" into the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix beta, which will be available for download on June 25 to anyone who purchases Commando 3. Is that a deal anyone can pass up, Ryu? "Sho-you-can't!"Wolves (or shooting) not your thing? Voltex (the developer, not a Ukranian pop star) has you covered in ah-dorable little frogs this week with Frogger 2 (800 MS points). This spiritual successor to the coin-op classic (also available on XBLA) features new levels, new artwork, and what no XBL game can be without: a co-op mode (for up to four players, in this case). This release should at least make the parents of young'ns hoppy.%Gallery-18256%%Gallery-24710%

  • Frogger 2 & Commando 3 xbox.com pages appear

While there has yet to be major news of them, both Frogger 2 and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 now have their respective xbox.com pages online. Judging from the screens Frogger 2 doesn't look like its Dreamcast cousin, using sprites, a new kiddy art style, and possibly more puzzles. Commando 3 on the other hand is an arcade shooter with that Incredibles/TF2/BFH art style that seems to be gaining in popularity lately. While Frogger is a bit of a quantity, Commando 3 could be a pleasant surprise if it manages to differentiate itself from the myriad of other arcade shooter currently on XBLA. Release dates are of course unknown, but our best guess would be before the month is out.%Gallery-24324%%Gallery-24325%[Read, Frogger 2][Read, Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3]

  • Frogger 2 achievements reveal possible DC port

When Frogger 2 was revealed (courtesy of the ESRB) to be coming to XBLA, there was some speculation as to which version of the game would end up being ported over. There was the original and then the later update, the latter of which was the game with the most content and most recent release, but the Live Arcade has seen older games show up too. Now that the achievements have been revealed, we can see from their details that they definitely refer to things that the later game had, but the earlier didn't. Given that this will be a port, let's hope that the netcode is that of the PC version, because XBLA hasn't had the best of luck with the online portion of Dreamcast ports. • Frogger 2 is scheduled for a leap onto the XBLA

Coming from those folks over at the ESRB, Frogger 2 has been rated and will be hopping onto the Xbox Live Arcade sometime in the near future. And it's also a guarantee that Jeff Minter will be infuriated times two. There is a bit of confusion though to exactly which Frogger 2 the XBLA version will be based off of. The ESRB listing uses a generic "Frogger 2" title, while there have been two Frogger 2's created in the past, Swampy's Revenge and Threeedeep! Whichever Frogger 2 it ends up being, we'll be excited come launch day for the sole reason of hearing what Minter has to say. Frogger 2 and a lengthy Minter rant (with an angry undertone) are incoming. Cover your ears![Via Game Stooge]
