Just in time for the weekend, it's another edition of Ask Massively, the column where no question is too great or too small to be treated as the subject of a dissertation from a guy who thought <Oops> would make a great guild name. Speaking of which, this week's question comes from one of our loyal readers, who writes...Please help me, oh pulchritudinous paragon of pungently perfect profundity!I am fairly new to the business of creating a guild, and my new guild mates and I are looking for advice on a guild name. How do we come up with something that A) hasn't been done to death and B) is a guild name that we won't cringe at 6 months later? - PerplexedBeing a playful, yet ponderous, purveyor of perspicacity and punditry (not to mention 'profundity') can be potentially problematic, especially for people as pompous and pontificatory as I am. Perhaps this week, in order to properly pose a solution to your problem, we shall peek into the past. One of the more popular topics that I have encountered over many an alcoholic beverage with my gaming friends is guild names. From the serious to the sublime, from those who conjure images of sinister swords and sorcery to those that leave you scratching your head and saying "Huh?", how does one pick and choose a guild name?

Have you ever run around in your game of choice only to stop dead in your tracks, laughing at a great guild name you've seen? We definitely have. One of the funny ones we've spotted in World of Warcraft was <and two stealthed Rogues>, which made it look like the player had a subtitle telling you that at all times two stealthed Rogues were with them. But we know that while we're in a lot of different worlds, we haven't seen one tenth of the funny guild names out there. Today we'd love to hear your favorites! What guild names (or guild names combined with character names as with the Horde player we found above) have made you laugh?

Adam on the WoW LJ pulled some funny guild names from the new Wowhead forums, and while I was pretty sure that funny guild names had become the oldest joke in the WoW humor book (c'mon, who hasn't heard of a guild called "Riders of Lohan" or "Gnomeland Security" by now?), there are actually some new good ones here.RPness is RisingThe Coming of ArwangThrobbing GronnFat Kids Are Hard To KidnapGET OFF MY LAWNShe Said She was Lvl 18Dont Daze Me BroSome of them just tend towards a more offensive taste (I've excluded a few from the list that aren't super appropriate, but there are a few still on there that might rub those with strong sensibilities the wrong way), but there is an interesting trend here-- not only are there new Outland references, but there are new references to pop culture floating around. And that's super interesting to me-- funny guild names as indicators of cultural trends. So I guess it's about time we took another look-- in the past few months since we last listed funny guild names, what new ones have you heard? Are there any that have come about recently, due to either new WoW content, or real-world happenings?
