Hot on the heels of the Hallow's End festivities comes Day of the Dead, which is actually two days, to give you a few extra chances to grab the single achievement available on this holiday. The Day of the Dead is a time to remember and celebrate the spirits of those who have been lost, which must hold a special irony for the Forsaken. Oh well! You can grab a number of fun items during the Day of the Dead, including the seasonal pet Macabre Marionette, the Bread of the Dead recipe, Bouquet of Orange Marigolds, Whimsical Skull Mask, and a Spirit Candle. Check out the Day of the Dead post on the WoW official blog for more information on the holiday.

  • The Daily Grind: How long should in-game events run?

If you were hoping to get yourself a nice Sand People outfit in Star Wars: The Old Republic's Grand Acquisition Race... well, you can still buy one, but you can't obtain the tokens to do so any longer. That makes the event a very brief one indeed, as it ran for just a week. You might argue this to be just enough time for players to enjoy the event if they wanted and not so long as to get annoying. Or you might argue that it's far too short for any sort of real pursuit of the rewards. The trick with any in-game event is to run it just long enough, but everyone's going to have a different definition of how long is too long. For some players, a week is enough time to get everything; for others, a month is still not enough. It depends on playstyle, it depends on how much there is to do, and it depends upon how neat the event trappings are. So what do you think? How long should an in-game event run? Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

  • Champions Online unveils plans to celebrate one year since launch

While it was discussed in passing with the last State of the Game address, it's well worth reiterating that Champions Online is going to be a year old in September. With the uncomfortable number of games who've fallen on hard times over the past year, it's well worth celebrating an anniversary in style. And Cryptic Studios plans to do precisely that, with their recently-unveiled anniversary plans running from August 27th to September 6th for all of the game's players. During the duration of the celebration, the Renaissance Center area will be decked out in all the celebratory finery, complete with contact NPCs wandering about. These NPCs will offer characters one gift per day, with more gifts available from defeating enemies in certain areas. Each gift works as a useful consumable item, and on top of those gifts there are new perks to collect and special anniversary costume pieces to collect. Champions Online players should take a look at the full rundown of events and take part in the near future.

  • Nights in EverQuest II get just a bit more haunted

Trying to hit up every possible MMO Halloween celebration? Add yet another one to your list, as EverQuest II brings back its Nights of the Dead for this year. Between October 16th and November 9th, all sorts of spook-related activities will be covering the surface of Norrath. Like last year's event, there will be trick-or-treating and decorations in Freeport and Qeynos and goblins to cast costume illusions, not to mention candy drops from monsters and several "clandestine (and smashable!) decorations." If you're a seasoned verteran of EverQuest II and think you've seen all of this before, however, this year also boasts a number of new additions to the holiday. Oh, sure, there are new costumes, but that's the least of the new material added for this year's celebration. A new haunted hedgemaze in Nektulos Forest should attract those looking to get lost for a while, assuming that the new headless horseman doesn't get you first. There's also a new holiday collection, a new holiday recipie book, and some new rewards for some old Nights of the Dead events -- so even if you've taken part in the celebration before this year, you might still be able to find some new items from the mix. Enjoy the celebration starting at the end of the week, and be careful about the headless horseman -- those guys are always trouble.
