Two very different games are available on Xbox Live Arcade this week. We've got robotic badminton (which we affectionately refer to as deathminton) in the form of Blazing Birds and a very interesting take on the puzzle genre in Gel: Set & Match. Even better, both games are actually pretty good. Check out the latest XBLA in Brief and see if either game floats your digital boat.Download the trial version of Blazing Birds Download the trial version of Gel: Set & Match[iTunes] Subscribe to X3F TV directly in iTunes.[Zune] Subscribe to the X3F TV directly (Zune Marketplace link coming soon).[RSS] Add the X3F TV feed to your RSS aggregator and have the show delivered automatically.[M4V] Download the M4V directly.

This week on Xbox Live Arcade we get two new games, Blazing Birds and Gel: Set & Match. The latter is the latest game from NinjaBee Gastronaut Studios. It's a puzzle game that (shockingly) requires players to destroy colorful blocks. After a quick search around the internets -- Blazing Birds doesn't have an Xbox.com page just yet -- it appears that the former is a game in which robots play badminton, an idea which is about on par with grandmas playing electric guitars. Could be awesome, could be awful. We'll just have to wait and see. Both games will run 800 ($10). Major Nelson now says Blazing Birds will clock in at 400 ($5) with Gel: Set & Match priced at 800 ($10).Update: Gel: Set & Match was developed by Gastronaut Studios, not NinjaBee. Pricing changed.

Small Arms developer Gastronaut Studios has revealed its next XBLA project, announcing a new game titled Gel: Set & Match, a "spiritual successor" to its original Xbox puzzler, Fuzzee Fever.Originally peeked on Australia's OFLC website last December, the upcoming "puzzle-action hybrid" will feature both collaborative and dog-eat-dog gameplay as players work alone or in groups to match up and rid the screen of troublesome gelatinous blocks. Three different modes are also promised, including the core Puzzle Mode, an Action Mode that will have players clearing the way for an approaching tank, and an arena Battle Mode with exploding blocks of jelly. Just try not to get any on you, that stuff looks impossible to get out.

GamerBytes reports that an entry for a new Gastronaut Studios game has popped up on Australia's OFLC website. Gastronaut, lest you've forgotten, most recently brought us Small Arms for Xbox Live Arcade. Entitled Gel: Set & Match, we know practically nothing about the game, other than the fact that the OFLC has dubbed the game suitable for general audiences. Looking at the title though, we have a sneaking suspicion we might be dealing with a buddy platformer. Then again, it might be a puzzle game. Whatever it is, it's probably an XBLA game and it certainly sounds like there will be gel that will be set on fire. We must admit, the premise is sound.
