It's the last Sunday before Christmas, but whether you celebrate it or not, we'll have a treat for you next week on the 26th! Several comic artists are collaborating on a Secret Santa (or Greatfather Winter?) swap. They each have the name of another comic but do not necessarily know who all is participating and don't know who will be drawing their comic. This should be a blast! Incidentally, if you emailed me and entered as a participant but did not receive my reply email, email me again or check your spam folders. Enough business; here is the list! It even features several new comics: Jinylee. *New! WoW, eh?: A Hot Side of Beef Away From Reality: There's No Aggro Like Snow Aggro Penny-Arcade: A Priori. Also: Wolf of the Year Dork Tower. • The Road to Mordor: A conspiracy of hats

    by

The hat, as they say, makes the man. Or the woman. Or the Dwarf. Unfortunately, in Lord of the Rings Online, the hat often makes the man completely silly. I'm not quite sure how it happened, but the hats in LotRO have garnered the reputation as being goofy as all get out. Sure, this is hardly a fresh observation, but I've wanted to address it in this column for a while now, so it might as well be today! Rumor has it that Turbine's artists drew upon actual medieval outfits to lend an authentic, renaissance faire vibe to the game. This is perhaps why there is such a distinct fashion style in LotRO that you don't see in other MMOs. Our modern sensibilities, with such fashion achievements as tank tops and crocs, make hauberks and codpieces seem quaint and ridiculous. Truly, we are seeing the height of human civilization in 2010. So while it's laudable that Turbine tried to give us the real deal, that doesn't quite excuse the fact that many of the hats -- especially the light armor versions -- are unbearably weird. It's as if, as The Pix'led Life speculated, there's a conspiracy of hats afoot: "Let's see what we can make them swallow!" one artist cackles. "Ooh, I know -- how about 16 varieties of dunce hats?" laughs another. I kid, I kid. There are 17. Hit the jump and let's take a terrifying journey through headgear that seeks to conquer Sauron by making the Enemy laugh himself to death.

Comic news: Fyreuni announced that "Daily Quests is on hold while I work on Emergency Kindergarten Lesson 2!" I am definitely a little disappointed, but I think the project will be worth it. Tokkar was also kind enough to point out that Shawn Tommelleo of Coffin Comics has a new project called What's Shakin' that Tommelleo (aka Coffinshaker) described as not set in "WoWland," but it does feature the same characters. Sorry I missed it; the end of August and beginning of September were very hectic! To answer tr_rrr, Cru the Dwarf and other comics that do not update very often will not necessarily show up on the list as soon as they update, because I don't have the time to check every comic that ever posts something WoW-related each week. I rely on tips and comments and my own whims to learn about them. This is also why Kuo was only added again last week, for example. Thanks for tipping me off that it has updated, though!

Fun fact! Six comics on the list this week end their titles with an exclamation mark. Well, five, plus the fact that Byron, the Tauren Rogue, has one inherently. You'll also find a couple of comics that are new to the list, and hopefully this will help dry your tears over your missing favorites. A surprising number of comic artists are too busy this week, but promise to be back soon. Last week, commenters picked out their favorite one-liners from the selection of comics. This week, I challenge you to do it again; but this time, add in what you're doing, or what you usually do, while reading SMF. It'll be like our own personal "state your name and tell us something about you" awkward round-the-table banter! Either that, or it'll strangely remind you of your Twitter feed. A random, confusing, but somehow hilarious phrase coupled with a TMI about your breakfast habits - how could it be wrong? That, or you know, debate the merits of the new sparkle horse. Dealer's choice.

If you're a fan of Emergency Kindergarten, then be sure to read the text beneath the comic. LFG: #319 and #320. Beyond the Tree: Settling dust. Dark Legacy Comics: Keydar Can't Ski. I know that a lot of you were wondering why there was no DLC posted last week, and I am posting it here in case you didn't catch the link in the comment section. We do wish you well! Check out the new wallpaper from Complex Actions. NoObz: Season Break. Equinox is back with a new Northrend series! Juice really shouldn't be warm; but doesn't M just look so happy? It almost makes it okay, although that's primarily because it's not my juice. The Scout Report: #88, Scout is back to being Scout! Well, sort of. #89, and I'm trying not to imagine the sprocket party too. NPC: Breaking News. This totally ruins our next April Fools Day! This week, I have a treat for you; a nice, long list of comics, with some of my brilliant commentary. Well, you'll have fun with the comics anyway! Daily Quests: From the people who brought you Emergency Kindergarten! The Battlemasters: The Bang and the Clatter. Don't forget to read the accompanying notes. I, too, am enjoying the use of spell icons to tell the story. To the WoW community, they are interchangeable with text descriptions, and I'm sure if we could type using them, we would. I also love the fact that it's an "inside" means of communication. Ctrl+Alt+Del: Bringin' the Deeps. That mountain of gold is awesome. Ctrl+Alt+Del: Fail Druid strikes again! Thanks for the tips guys. How quickly can you spot the fail that doesn't get pointed out (directly) in the comic? Scroll back for a few more while you're there. Dark Legacy Comics: The Collaboration. In the latest LFG, there's some scantily clad kissing action. If that doesn't get you to click, I don't know what will. Teh Gladiators: Tyrande, My Love! More after the break!

This week's list has quite a few new listings, with one that I am particularly excited about. Without further ado: Noobs has posted part two of Gold Issues. On Scout Report, we find out the word that is actually worse than "kittens." While the ensuing squabble become unintelligible, we do learn a bit about their mother. Cru: Holy Brown-Nosing. Dark Legacy Comics: Bill #307A. I know they come right out and say it, but I still think that ending is lame. Experience Points: Vincent has a nightmare. Vincent packs for BlizzCon. His costume plans are not going so well, however. LFG proves that you should stay in school to be awesome. NPC: Driving. I love his facial expression in that one. I've also never seen anyone this excited about doing Dailies. NPC: Sorry. Well I suppose it kind of was her fault. Check out the latest from Teh Gladiators. GU Comics: Given the Choice. GU Comics: My Frustration. Patches are a cruel mistress, my friend. NoObz: Profiling. The Adventures of Disgraph T. Dwarf: The Instance Portal Shuffle. Oh my! Check out the latest from Kuo. Beyond the Tree: All Going South. The Battlemasters: Into the Fray. This is the first entry from a new comic that I'm really loving. The artwork is awesome, and the coloring, especially on the bear in the second entry, The Oil Refinery, blows me away. Read below it to learn about the contest for a custom forum signature! To learn more about the duo behind it (including our very own Zach Yonzon!), check out their About page. I decided to link you to a rather NSFW selection of comics this week, ala Supermegatopia, By Way of Booty Bay. I don't think that they go in any particular order, but it's a good page to bookmark and visit when you have some time. Here's another comic, new to the list but certainly not particularly far in, Nitropie. I'll have more to say about it next week when I can figure out how to make my browser navigate it properly.

It's a thrifty list this week, but with three from NPC and a newbie to the list, you should still have a fair amount to read. Disgraph is set to start updating again, Cru is on a break, and Kuo is being delayed due to studies. Flintlocke vs. the Horde has officially ended, Shakes and Fidget was shut down awhile ago, and I'm missing my Scout Report pretty hard. Just throwing that out there. Now that that it's Sunday morning and you know where your comics are, carry on! The Secret Meeting. Dark Legacy Comics. Experience Points has posted quite a few updates on a new story arc. I recommend starting with this one, which was linked last week, and then shuffling forward on your own. GU Comics: Call it Research. The latest LFG is quite interesting. I don't know if I'm more perplexed by his decision not to put on pants, or if I'm mostly nervous about his eyes in the last panel. Coercer has pointed out a comic I haven't listed before called Beyond the Tree. Check it out, and next week I'll start posting from the latest rather than the first. Thanks for the tip! NoObz: Undercover. NPC: 5 Pounds of Turkey Livers and Bink Quits WoW? and finally, Picked On. Teh Gladiators: Face Off! There will be no Road to BlizzCon this year! Still, if you're nostalgic or you missed it, now is as good a time as any to catch up. WoW eh: Dual-Speculating. I love this one! Particularly diabolical. You should also note that World of Warcraft eh?'s first store has been opened, and there is artwork to be had! Check out the latest from Two Lumps: the Adventures of Ebenezer and Snooch.
