Patch 5.1: Transmogrify your cloak with your guild reputation cloaks
Many people think their cloaks are ugly. Blizzard acknowledges this by allowing players to turn the display of their cloaks off. Now in patch 5.1, cloaks can be mogged to look like the cloaks awarded via guild reputation. This change is not included in the patch notes, but game designer Dave Maldonado tweeted the news. 7 wishes for guilds in Mists of Pandaria
Every Monday, Scott Andrews contributes Officers' Quarters, a column about the ins and outs of guild leadership. He is the author of The Guild Leader's Handbook, available now from No Starch Press. For officers, the improvements and new systems that Cataclysm brought to guilds were a game-changer in many ways. The sweeping changes to raiding that came with it brought on some difficult challenges. Fortunately, WoW does not stagnate. The Mists of Pandaria expansion gives Blizzard a chance to add new features, make important changes, and improve on what the developers gave us in Cataclysm. Here's my personal wish list: 1. Treat legendary items as guild rewards, not player rewards. As guilds in WoW have matured over the years, I've heard from officers less and less frequently about loot drama -- with one huge exception: legendaries. Every legendary in the history of WoW has caused problems for officers. For some, the legendary drama itself has become legendary. It's time to change both the reality and the perception of these powerful items.
Patch 4.1 PTR: Heirloom guild tabards aid reputation gains
From the very moment guild reputation and guild leveling were implemented, players have wanted some of their reputation gains to spill over to their alts. Why should your alts have to level their reputation if they're in the same guild as your main? In patch 4.1, Blizzard still isn't allowing your reputation to spill over to your alts, but it is implementing the Illustrious Guild Tabard and the Renowned Guild Tabard. These Bind to Account tabards are likely purchased at revered (Illustrious) and exalted (Renowned) reputations with your guild, making leveling additional characters through guild reputation that much easier. Additionally, assuming you get to keep the item upon leaving a guild, it should make the re-leveling process that much easier. Losing your exalted guild reputation for one reason or another and ending up neutral in your next guild can be a painful, painful thing. These tabards will help soothe that pain. Judging by the sell-to-vendor prices on Wowhead, the Illustrious tabard will cost 125 gold and the Renowned tabard will cost you 250 gold.

SwagDog releases new design, limited time WoW.com discount
This past week, SwagDog (sponsor for our Guild of the Month contest) released their newest custom t-shirt design: The Guild Icon shirt. Whereas their Guild Tabard design is a little busy (with your muscled nerd chest being graced with a guild standard of sorts), their new design is more simplistic in comparison. Your guild icon is front and center, laid atop your faction's icon. Your character's name, race, class and server are listed in white at the bottom, and your guild name across the top. If you so choose, it looks like you have the option to leave your guild and character name blank if you really want the icon to pop. The icon itself has a really cool stone texture to it, like it's been carved out. You can check out a close-up sample of that behind the cut below. This is honestly much closer to my ideal guild t-shirt than anything I've seen yet. The simple design just seems better to me.If you agree, you're in luck! BlizzCon 2009: Hands-on with Creative's World of Warcraft headset
When they stopped by the WoW.com meetup last Thursday before BlizzCon, Creative not only brought along a prototype of their upcoming World of Warcraft headset to show some readers in attendance, but they invited us by their booth at the show to hold it in our hands and see just what those lighted glyphs on the earcups were like. We happily obliged, and as a result, we're also happy to bring you the first look (along with some exclusive prototype photos) at what Creative's new headset will be.Keep in mind that they're still in the prototype stage right now: Creative's Ryan Schlieper told me that the way it works is that they make a mold and a prototype first (which is what we held -- not a fully working version, but a 1:1 model with the exact weight and size of the final version), and then make 1000 of those in a fully working version to test. If those 1000 work and are right, then they go on to production, and if not, then they go back to the mold and start over again. Schlieper says they're in the prototype stage right now, and once testing is done (including Blizzard's approval), then they'll roll out the final headsets. So how did this prototype look and feel? Personal Tabards may be a possibility in Wrath
A lot of us have probably had this problem before: We join a guild, and we like it. It has the right combination of people we like (or can tolerate), interests we share, and or what have you, and we're doing fine. Unfortunately, there is the problem. The tabard sucks. That whole green crying bear on pink background thing is just so tacky, and does not go well with any of our stuff. Sure, you can replace it with one of the factional tabards, in theory, but not until 70, and not until you grind exalted, and most of those tabards don't look much better anyway. Wouldn't it be nice if you could just go design your own personal tabard at your local town hall instead? That may be coming. In a thread by Beta tester Talid, Tigole said that the idea of personal tabards was actually pretty cool, and that he'd look into it. Yeah, admittedly, that means personal tabards could be in before Wrath goes live, or it means they could be a year off, or they could still discard the whole thing. Still, it often seems to this WoW Insider staff member that getting Blizzard to agree to any major type of personal character customization is like pulling teeth, so seeing Tigole act favorably toward this is pretty exciting. It'd be a great gold sink or achievement reward for Wrath.
Armory updated
Earlier today, Blizzard updated their Armory database to support many of the new features that were added to the game in patch 2.3. I've listed a quick summary of the changes below, but the most important one is the addition of guild bank support. Players will now be able to view the contents of their guild bank via the website. You'll have to log into the Armory with your WoW user name and password, so no worries about unguilded people snooping on your hoard. Additionally, a complete bank log will be maintained on the site, which is handy since the in-game log doesn't hold many entries.Check out my summary of the rest of the changes below.
